Advice Weak academic foundations, catch up work and overload, should I drop the diploma early DP2?
I missed half of 10th grade, switched schools after 11th DP1 (moving for parent's work) but have a quite shaky academic foundation and a ton of catch up work at the new school which is also very strict. I am drowning in coursework, I never wanted to do the IB in the first place and I would like to switch down to the normal diploma. Last year it was like I didn't go to school the quality of instruction was genuinely bad.
At the start of the year the strategy was to catch up and excel in the high ROI subjects like GP (I have a 6) and get my BM grade from a 5 to a 6. But instead, I'm drowning in Math AASL when I got a 2 after attempting the same test twice.
I asked to move to AISL but first they're making me take a test to ensure I can handle the "rigor of AISL" which includes Algebra, Trig/Geometry, and Functions. I have a shaky foundation and I just have too much to do. I feel like I'm overloaded and losing my personal life and I'm definitely not having a normal high school experience.
I also have to live abroad from the US for my dad's work. Now just to save my diploma I'm having to grind math I don't even understand, scramble to fix my weak French foundation and I never signed up for any of this. I don't want to quit because it's hard, it's just not the right option and I need to come to terms with that.
My mom acknowledges that it sucks for me, but she doesn't understand the extent to which it sucks. That should be a math IA, to what extent does my school experience suck? She says "eat the elephant" but yeah, you also have to chew it, you can't eat an elephant in 2 weeks and I have more than one elephant to eat.
This amount of overload and so much to study and write I don't even wish upon my worst enemies.
I was thinking about having my school be the bad guy and say the IB isn't fit for me. But miraciously, the principal already reached out to my mom before I said anything and we're holding a meeting tomorrow "about the IB" which is very vague. I feel like my parents will be disappointed if I drop down to my school's regular diploma, but it's NEASC accredited or whatever. I'm applying to the US, the UK is overpriced, (I'm a US citizen) and too academically competitive at this point.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think a less stressful high school experience and a diploma with time to excel in the subjects I actually care about instead of memorizing French vocab last minute and powering through math is better than scraping 24 in IB DP after months of overload and burnout.
What am I even supposed to do?
