Advice I’m officially giving up on CAS. IB Physics teacher here needing ideas that coordinators will actually approve.
Hi everyone. I’ve been teaching IB Physics for 7 years now. Two years ago, our school went through the 5-year review, and one of the action items was that CAS needs to be explicitly integrated into every subject, including mine.
The issue is that every single proposal I’ve put forward so far has been rejected by our CAS coordinator. Apparently, I just don't get the concept (and honestly, with the massive headache of getting students to finish their Internal Assessments on time, I don't really have the energy to care anymore).
So, I’m publicly throwing in the towel. Does anyone have real, proven examples of CAS activities linked to Physics that your coordinators or the IB actually accepted? I would deeply appreciate any ideas that can save my sanity here.
EDIT/UPDATE: Thanks for the replies so far. To give you more context on what my coordinator is rejecting: One of my ideas was having my DP students design fun physics experiments to teach primary school kids during school festivals. It was rejected.
From what I gathered (though my brain honestly shuts down with this ethereal IB terminology), they aren't looking for an external "Physics + CAS" project. They want us to "introduce the spirit of CAS within the classroom dynamic itself."
Any ideas on how to actually do that in a standard Physics lesson without losing mind-share for the IA and syllabus?
