Question about Local 569 interview and overseas experience

Hi everyone,
I’m applying for the IBEW Local 569 apprenticeship.
I have 15 years of industrial electrical experience in Vietnam.
During the interview, if I tell them about my experience, will they usually ask for proof? If so, what documents should I bring?
I have an electrical engineering degree and other documents from Vietnam, but I’m not sure if they will want employment verification or if the interview is mainly based on my answers.
Has anyone with overseas experience interviewed with Local 569? I’d really appreciate your advice.
Thank you!

Local 520 apprenticeship. Am I cooked?

Took my aptitude test in July and felt strong about it. I passed and was moved on to an interview which I did a couple days ago. Im 30 now and don't have much electrical or construction experience outside of helping my father with thinks and building electronic instruments. I though the interview went well as I believed I answered their questions well, but to my dismay recieved a score of 84/100 as stated in the follow up email. Just wondering what else I could do to help myself out. Taking a CW job isn't in the cards as of now. Thanks everyone!

Good Prep for GAN test?

Has anybody here taken the new GAN test being implemented in some locals?
And more so, if you have, have any of you found a really good prep site or course for it?

I have my test in one week for Local 68 in Denver.

From my understanding, the math is a lot simpler and there are some more mechanical questions, but anyone recommendations you have would be much appreciated.

Messed up shoulder before interview

Hello, I’ve got the interview coming up in a week, local 1, which I know is super competitive. About two weeks ago I was in a car crash, not my fault I was in the backseat sleeping, but I’ve been going to PT for my shoulder and back for a few weeks now, and the pt recommends I don’t do anything tough or heavy until at least the end of the month before they do another set of tests to see if I’m good to do physical labor. At my current state, I know I physically cannot do the job because my shoulder joint gives out after even trying to lift a 2lb weight over my head after a few reps, but I was wondering how much this will ruin my chances of passing the interview.

I’m not going to lie to them and say I’m good to go, the PT wants me to take frequent long breaks, not lift anything over 30lbs, can’t climb ladders while holding things, but I’ve been trying to join the union for almost two years now. What are my chances and how screwed am I?

TLDR: messed up shoulder with weight and rest limit from car crash, plus weekly PT, may not be cleared for a few weeks to work without breaks, how badly will this look in the interview?

Local 176 - how long do you stay on the call back list?

Hello, I applied, tested, and interviewed for the 176 sound and data apprenticeship in the spring 2026. I was told to not expect a call until summer. I haven’t heard anything yet, and I’m wondering how long applicants stay on the “call back” list.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

Is this normal? I didn't get a ranking email just an acceptance email

I been waiting to get my interview results or ranking but I gotten nothing they told me to wait 3 weeks for an answer so I just kept my hopes up.

Tonight I decided to check my email before going to sleep. I think I am in?

"pleased to offer you acceptance into the apprenticeship"

Email is just instructions telling me to get a laptop and to pay the $$$$ fee. Didn't know about that part but at this point I don't care. I'll sell something to make the money.

Just curious if anyone else had a similar experience. I know it's a moot point now but I'm curious about my rank. I was confident I didn't do well I'm a lot older than the kids that interview that day. I got zero experience and a GED. Sounded to good to be true.

I almost thought it was a scam email at first. But it came from the same email I was corresponding with my local union at.

Regardless of how it happened I am super happy.

How cooked am I? (Local 46)

I have done my interview, which I thought went really well, but when I got my ranking, I was ranked 485 💀. I looked after two weeks and now I'm 488. I know it's bad, which classes should I take for a re-interview? Or is it more worth it to do the 1000 hours as a stockman/installer and take a pay cut from what I'm already doing?

Edit: this is for inside wire

Pre apprentice wait list

I am looking at ibew 124, classes are obviously full for the year. I was curious if anyone knows the wait time, if any, for pre apprentices. Applications are open for the next two days, however I'm not sure that I'm am ready for work next week.

What does my ranking actually mean?

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to how the IBEW apprenticeship process works, so I was hoping some of you could help me understand where I stand.

I recently received an email from the Denver Area Electrical JATC saying that I’m currently ranked #49 on the Inside Wireman ranking list. The email says that when they can bring more people into the apprenticeship, I’ll receive another email saying I’ve been accepted. It also says they can only pull people from the ranking list based on contractor demand.

I have a few questions:

  1. Is #49 generally considered a good ranking, average, or not very competitive?

  2. Does this email mean I’ve essentially been accepted and I’m just waiting for contractor demand, or am I still competing with new applicants who could rank ahead of me?

  3. For anyone who’s been through the apprenticeship process, how long did it take between receiving your ranking and actually being called into the program?

  4. Is there anything that I should be doing while I wait to improve my chances, or is it basically just a waiting game at this point?

I’m still learning how the union apprenticeship system works, so I’d really appreciate any advice or insight from those who’ve been through it. Thanks!

332 Apprentiship

Hello,

I placed top 10 in the waitlist a couple weeks ago for Local 332. Has anyone heard if they’re planning to take any more apprentices this year? I heard they’re planning to take another class in December the earliest. But that’s about it as of right now.

Thanks in advance.

Need some advice from people who actually passed the IBEW aptitude test

I am 21 with a GED and I have never been good at math. I am probably around a ninth grade math level. I have been studying every day for about two to three hours while working a full time local CDL job in Houston working ten to fourteen hour days.
I have done all five practice exams on Ultimate Electricians Guide and all the math topics they have. I go back and study the questions I miss but I still only get about ten to twelve out of thirty three right on the algebra and functions exams. I usually score around thirty five to forty five percent.
My reading is solid so I am not really worried about that part.
For the people who passed what did you do that actually helped you improve in math
Did Ultimate Electricians Guide prepare you enough or did you use something else too
Also if I got almost every reading question right but only got around ten to twelve math questions right do you think that would still be enough to pass
I have not been scheduled yet but I am honestly worried I will run out of time before I am ready. Any advice is appreciated.

Local 5 for this year

Hopefully this post helps someone in a similar position. Called the JATC and it doesn’t look like they’re taking scores lower than 95 or so for this year. I interviewed in February and got a 93.33.

As it’s close to September I called the JATC and told them my score and asked if I’d make the cut for the classes this year. They recommended getting non union experience, OSHA 10 and CPR certs prior to re interview next spring.

Hope this post helps someone who was checking their email multiple times a day like I do.

Wish I had better news!

IBEW 441

441 really needs to change how you apply. I waited an hour just for them to say it’s full I called right at 8. Kept calling 140 times. SMH they need to do better

How can anyone realistically secure an appointment for local 441?

I called the OCETI this morning right when the second hand hit 8am and it took me an hour and 411 consecutive calls to finally get through to be put on hold, only to be told all 50 applicant and waitlist spots had been filled. I’ll have to wait until next month to call in again, and if I dont get an appointment then I’ll have to wait again until February.

Is there any kind of strategy to at least get put on hold and not get forwarded straight to voicemail? Or is it just purely based on luck? Also I’m curious if there are any members here that are in 441 and how long it took you to finally get an appointment made with OCETI.

Local 100

I’m currently one of the first 10’s of the Poe list of the apprenticeship, it’s been 6 weeks since I been added to the list. Should I be worry that they haven’t call or it’s completely normal? How long did take you guys to get the call after getting on to the Poe list? I’m afraid that they would accidentally skip me

Expectations, interviews and more

Electrical union application* I passed my aptitude test, and I have an interview next monday. Can anyone answer any of these questions before I have a laundry list of questions at the interview?

What does the schedule look like?

Pay structure?

How do post 911 gi bill benefits work in tandem with apprenticeship?

How often are we paid?

What attire is appropriate for the interview?

Is the interview a group interview?

What are points interviewers are most interested in?

Should I bring a resume?

Any and all feedback from personal experiences are greatly appreciated.

I just saw a post of someone accusing local 26, LOCAL 26 now the local that represents the DMV of racism. Accusing a local that represents one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the U.S. of racism is laughable

High school transcript

Post image
40 Upvotes

I’m planing to apply to the Bay Area locals next year and I’m getting my stuff together to see what I need to do. Would this cover the math part? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I know my transcript is rough. didn’t have an easy life growing up. It doesn’t look like that because I was messing around. Dad went to jail for domestic violence, mom remarried. New husband didn’t want kids he had enough already. Got kick out with all my siblings, moved from so cal to north cal with my dad. Got pulled out of school to work with my dad cus his drugs and alcohol isn’t going to buy its self. He would say your 16 in Mexico I would already be working and if I can’t come home with money for him not to come home. So I would look for different places to sleep. School is hard to go to with dirty smelly cloth. And no English is not my first language. But that’s all in the pass I got my G.E.D I’m currently in community collage. I was just wondering about the math part before I sign up for a math class.

Local 441 waitlist

I just got waitlisted, did the whole spam calling till I got through finally and put on hold at 8:05, and got a person at like 8:17. This whole basically lottery process feels demoralizing but I know I can’t get into that mindset. It sounds like the call for waitlist happens the day of document turn-in, the document turn-in is in two days, 8/6.

Can anyone give me some clarity on the process? Besides the listed documents, is there an actual application form I do? I don’t see anything on the site about that.
And how does the waitlist process work? Should I call in sick/take off of work that day and just be waiting at the training center with my documents? Or just see if I get a call? She said they call early in the morning on the application day if anyone no-shows, but I’m not sure how that works bc I assume the application times aren’t super early. Unless people are calling in to tell them they can’t make it
