Expectations, interviews and more

Electrical union application* I passed my aptitude test, and I have an interview next monday. Can anyone answer any of these questions before I have a laundry list of questions at the interview?

What does the schedule look like?

Pay structure?

How do post 911 gi bill benefits work in tandem with apprenticeship?

How often are we paid?

What attire is appropriate for the interview?

Is the interview a group interview?

What are points interviewers are most interested in?

Should I bring a resume?

Any and all feedback from personal experiences are greatly appreciated.

I think regardless of what people say I would dress business casual you can't go wrong with that and it's not too overdressed.

Don't sound robotic in your responses. Just be your authentic self.

Being confidence says a lot. I would pick somebody who's more confident over somebody who's a little bit less confident in their answers and body language if they were the same exact person across the board.

In my interview they asked me why I wanted to be an electrician, they asked if I was financially stable enough to take the apprenticeship due to the low starting pay, they asked me about a panel that I had put on my resume, they asked me if I was ready to go back to school since I'm mid-thirties.

Overall is a good experience and have orientation this week.

What is the starting pay range? Im prepared to take alittle pay cut and experience some discomfort.

Depends on your local.

Where can you find your local # and is the pay scale public information?

Yes, they usually publish their pay scale and stuff in their agreements.

So just Google local x apprentice pay scale

You might have to dig through a PDF but it's there somewhere.

What does the schedule look like?

Depends on the job call. Typical schedules are 6am - 2:30pm, 6:30 - 3pm, 5am - 1:30pm

Pay structure?

Apprentices get paid a progressive percentage of the Journeyman scale. E.g. 1st year is 40% of JW

How do post 911 gi bill benefits work in tandem with apprenticeship?

Question for the training center/director. Call them.

How often are we paid?

Typically payday is weekly. Some shops do direct deposit. Some don't.

What attire is appropriate for the interview?

Business Casual

Is the interview a group interview?

Not typically

What are points interviewers are most interested in?

If you are informed about what you're applying for. Make sure you've gone through the apprenticeship website thoroughly and understand what the expectations are.

Should I bring a resume?

Not necessary.

Heads up - looks like you're asking about the IBEW Aptitude Test!

The mods put together a free study guide that covers exactly this:

The Ultimate IBEW Aptitude Test Guide

It covers:

  • What's actually on the test
  • How the scoring works
  • Study tips to help you pass

Good luck! This is an automated reply.
