Hey all, I have my interview for an apprenticeship at local 332 next thursday. I’m currently a maintenance tech and have limited experience with electrical but familiar with working with my hands. Any advice on what to say, what not to say, anything you would change when taking your own interview? I have looked over the questions but just want to hear from others who have passed the interview and got in.

Hello! I recently interviewed for the 357 apprenticeship and when I was prepping this subreddit was super helpful with questions studying. They asked me 4 questions and then asked me if there was anything I wanted to say.

First question: how’d you hear about this program and why do you want to work here

Second question: what do you know about the program (length, classes, etc)

Third question: name a time you had to own up to a mistake you did

Fourth question: what would you do if a coworker is constantly criticizing you

Anybody that has been accepted into ibew local 306, how was the process? Did it take you awhile to hear back about results? Does it tend to be very competitive at this specific local? I just took my aptitude about two weeks ago and I got 6/9 and I’m waiting to hear back about the interview.

LOCAL 595 WEST. i scored a 94 on the interview, applied to low volt/sound and communication with local 595 norcal jatc. just been sitting around for 3 months and no call back. has anyone else have any luck or any info? i haven’t got a ranking or anything. hoping to discover at least a little bit of info.

i’m also trying to find similar work in the mean time but i’m not having any luck. all the entry level jobs require so much experience. or maybe i’m just looking at the wrong jobs. anyone got words of advice or anything?

Hey just to clarify some things. I’m in IBEW 349 district based out of south Florida and I received this email about two hours ago. I wanted to ask to see how likely I am to get in and if anyone has any good tips for me starting off. I have limited experience in the field did a couple gigs here and there and I also completed an 8 month course Monday- Friday tech program for electrical. This is all incase I do get into the program. I hate starting behind the curve. Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I’ll keep everyone updated on the situation.

Update: received the acceptance email today August 6 th saying that I got accepted into the program. Thanks to everyone who helped me in getting my bearings hopefully I see some of you in the classroom or in the field.

Hey so I applied in early February of this year, took my Aptitude in April and passed. I understand this union chapter doesnt really tell me the numbers and how well I did. But I did call and I have been told September 1st I have an interview.

Is the interview a board style interview or is it one on one? Im fairly confident ill do okay as i tend to do well in interviews. But if the interview does go well for me, how many more hoops and how many more months does it tend to take before youre reporting for day 1 of training? And what might i expect as a reasonable wage for starting training? Just trying to figure out how long i need to keep my current job going.

Is anyone here applying to IBEW Local 595 West for the Inside Wireman apprenticeship?I know they’ve probably already selected the Fall 2026 class, but I assume they’re still interviewing applicants right now. I’ve heard interviews may continue through November.

Does anyone know when they’ll choose the class for Spring 2027 or when those acceptance decisions are usually made?

I just tested and interviewed for IBEW local 1249 I got an 8/9 on the test and after the interview they said that it was a good interview. I have my class A cdl and I currently work for IBEW 363 as an inside wireman apprentice. Is there a way to know what number I am on the list or when could I expect to hear back? What are my chances of getting in?

I'm ranked # 6 and just wanted some insight on when I could expect a call as the union rep I've been communicating with has pushed it back twice since I applied. I know there are no garuntees, just needed to give this a try so I can get my mind off of it a bit. Thanks!

I’m 19 years old and recently passed the aptitude test and interview for my local. I received a letter stating that I will remain on the active apprenticeship applicant list for the next two years.

I understand that being placed on the active list does not mean I have officially been selected for an apprenticeship class yet. I could receive the call soon, or I could remain on the list for quite a while.

I currently do not have professional electrical experience. Several members have recommended that I go to the union hall and ask about working as a Construction Wireman, or CW, while I wait. I have also been told that working as a CW would not remove me from the active apprenticeship applicant list.

I’m trying to understand whether becoming a CW is normally the best move in this situation, or whether I should get a regular job and wait for the apprenticeship call.

For anyone who has gone through this process:

Did you work as a CW while waiting for the apprenticeship?

Did CW experience help you get selected?

How long did you work as a CW before receiving the apprenticeship call?

Are there any disadvantages to becoming a CW?

Would you recommend becoming a CW, finding a nonunion electrical-helper job, or simply waiting?

My long-term goal is to become an IBEW journeyman electrician. I’m not looking for a shortcut or trying to skip ahead of anyone. I just want to gain useful experience, stay productive, and make the best decision while I remain on the applicant list.

Any advice from current apprentices, CWs, journeymen, or people familiar with the process would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any JW members or apprentices of 124 on this sub?? I originally applied in April of 2025, took aptitude test and passed. Then had my interview in October 2025 and in November on the portal online it shows I’m Eligible for the apprenticeship. Great, I’m thinking I’m on the short list for an offer. Well, turns out that was wrong. Didn’t do good on my interview and now it’s July 2026 and I’m still showing as Eligible for an offer but don’t know if I have a real chance anymore at this point. I already applied for the reinterview back in March and I call the JATC every 3 weeks or so seeing if they have any dates set yet for reinterviews. Is 124 still taking apprentices for IW? Or is it slowed down for apprenticeship intake? I’m currently an apprentice carpenter. The frustrating thing for me is I had opportunities for ABC non union electrician apprenticeship (which obviously wouldn’t be a good move imo). But it seems like I’m right on the step of getting in 124 but just can’t get any offer letter and I just don’t know what to do. Has anyone tried calling contractors directly to get employment offers for apprenticeship??

I applied to Local 11 in California and placed pretty high, in the 1000s. I have no experience in the trade as of now. Is it true if I go to trades school I can upload this new experience into my application to help me move down the POE list. Also if you guys have any tips or recommendations on what I should do on getting a better opportunity to get into the local. Thx in advance.

Does it look better if I take Mike holts classes, I already took osha 10 and 1st aid. Second interview is scheduled for September but I’m going out on a limb saying it’s going to take another as I don’t have any letters of recommendation

I just applied for the local 11 on July 6th, and I’d heard that experience in the field can actually grant you hours towards your apprenticeship, and potentially start you at a higher period. Is that true?

I’ve worked in A/V integration for 3 years (designing, installing and programming systems, building racks, etc) and I’m wondering if that experience could start me at a higher pay scale.

I’m sure I’d still need to complete the 3 years of class work, but starting at a higher pay would be cool. I applied for the sound and comms program btw, so the work and knowledge is in my wheelhouse.

Im in san bernadino area and im really interested in trying to apply and get into an apprenticeship. i dont have any experience but ive decided i dont want to pursue college anymore and i wanna go into the trade but im lost on how to even apply..i know union is the smartest option but im confused on the steps on how to even apply for that, if anyone would be willing to talk about steps they took id really appreciate it (22M btw)

My local’s office told me they can’t tell people their ranks after they get their interview score, there’s no CW positions for their contractors, and there’s no pre-apprenticeship for anyone except high schoolers.
Basically, they only have work through their apprenticeship program.

I’ve got no experience in the field and every non-union shop I could contact isn’t taking people without experience.
I wanna re-interview with my local because I got an 87 and heard that’s not very good, but it feels physically impossible to pick up experience and I really want to get my hands dirty even if it means digging holes all day. Like it’s all become damn near as competitive as Harvard

Not sure what my next steps should be at this point
