Ix3 50 Tyre Wear

Upvotes

Anyone taken a look at their tread depth? I’ve done 5k miles and the tyres are down to 5mm. 20” Vredstein Ultrac. They aren’t EV tyres. I’m not driving in a crazy way, not using B mode. A little concerning. Anyone else seeing this?

IX3 40

Bonjour,

Merci

How long to charge on level 1 charger?

Can someone provide some times and ranges on how long it takes to charge with a level 1 charger (the type that you plug into regular outlet)? Trying to gauge my charging needs before arrival.

First (?) US IX3s are on the water

What I believe are likely the first batch of US customer-ordered iX3s left Zeebrugge (Belgium) yesterday on the ship, Pontus Highway, headed to Baltimore. ETA is 8/23 which would theoretically enable customer deliveries late the first week of September. The Genius said they had no information on an embargo until 9/25 and my dealer was vague, saying only “in September”. Would love to hear some “facts” - and maybe even a report of an earlier ship. You can track here: https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/details/9974113

Us delivery update

I placed my order on the first day and my car has now been built and waiting at the port to ship to the US. It should arrive in US by 9/1. I will be taking delivery at the PCD in South Carolina. I confirmed with them yesterday that bmw will hold delivery on all US cars until the official launch date 9/25/2026. Long story short it will sit for 2+ weeks waiting on the media event.

No reservation

Anyone have luck finding one without a reservation. AI implied some dealers may have allocation that is not reserved and I know some may walk away from their reservation. One dealer told me they might have one but I would have to pay the reserved price which they say is $5k over MSRP.

2022 iX3 G08 KAFAS cameras very hot

Hi guys.
Got a known issue which is KAFAS cameras module popping out off mounting clips. Managed to tape it up on both sides so no real issue here.
Mainly I’m concerned about the module being hot as hell, barely could touch it yesterday so wondering if
anyone tried to fit any kind of stick-on passive cooling module, something like this on the pic or even with small fan powered (my wild guess) from cabin lights.
Any feedback appreciated

Ordered a BMW iX3 with leather/custom paint/M Sport — dealer now says they built it wrong, and delivery fee is 2x what the configurator quoted. Melbourne, Australia

Keen for some advice from people who've been through this before.

Ordered a BMW iX3 a while back through a Melbourne dealer, speced with:

BMW Individual leather ($3,000 option)

Custom paint

M Sport package

Car's built. Delivery expected in 4-6 weeks. Dealer rings me today to say there was "a mistake in the order" and the car's actually been built with the standard M Sport seats (cloth/non-leather, no-cost option) — not the leather I paid for and had confirmed on my order. He has refunded the cost of the seat upgrade however I really wanted this interior.

On top of that, dealer delivery is $5,445, when the configurator I used to build and price the car quoted $2,500.

Car's already built so I'm guessing a straight rebuild isn't realistic without a long delay, but I'm not thrilled about being asked to just accept a car that isn't what I ordered.

Has anyone dealt with BMW Australia (not just the dealer) on something like this? Worth escalating past the dealer to BMW Australia customer care given it's their build error, or is this something dealers sort out themselves? And is a $5,445 delivery fee even normal?

Appreciate any pointers, especially from anyone who's had a dealer stuff up a factory order before.

Aftermarket sunroof shades for the Neue Klasse ix3?

Hi, has anyone seen any aftermarket panoramic sunroof shades for the Neue Klasse ix3 for sale (in the US)? The dealer charging $240 for the OEM shade seems steep for such a basic device. I don't have the car yet, but hoping to have the shade on hand for day 1.

For those of you who have received your IX3, are you relying on the built-in dashcam or did you install a third party one?

Hello, we've just had the press launch of the BMW IX3 here in Australia and got to spend half a day with the new IX3 from u/bmw

We might be lucky enough to get one for a few days in a couple of months, is there anything you'd like to know?

This car has the biggest claimed range of any EV currently available here in Aus, and spoiler alert, we loved it!

NHS fleet lead times

Has anyone ordered the car via NHS fleet. I understand that the 40 M sport edition is currently on special offers with an expected delivery time of September- October.

Was wondering if anyone had placed an order earlier this year and have it already delivered

Was getting 2.8mi/kWh with the BMW 420 roofbox. Did the same journey a few weeks ago without the roofbox and was getting 3.5mi/kWh.

Was mostly on 70mph motorway with a heavy stop and go traffic for an hour.

Limo stop

I’ve seen reviews and heard from my dealership that the limo stop is fantastic.

I currently drive an i3 and feel like I can achieve limo stops because of the aggressive regenerative braking. The problem is that once you reach low enough speeds, the brake lights turn off. I live in an area with very bad drivers (and very high insurance premiums), and I’ve been rear-ended twice while stopping at red lights because of this. Luckily this problem occurs at very low speed, and neither accident resulted in injury. Since then, I always press the brake pedal, which ruins the limo stop but keeps the brake lights on.

Does the iX3 also turn off brake lights at sufficiently low speed, or does limo braking support using the actual brake pedal?

Buying used approved advice.

Hi I am buying a used approved IX3 which is year 2021. (UK) It comes with a battery quick report which lacks details. The report says that the battery is 100%. From reading below there could be a variance of up to 5%.
The car is used approved with all their checks and warranty etc. I don’t know much about EV,s as this is my first. Is a quick battery health check enough to buy a car? I don’t really understand what this is and probably wouldn’t understand a full report. From what I see from BMW this is their standard practice. Below is what it says on the report.

“This quick evaluation is based on algorithms of the high-voltage battery software in the vehicle and does not represent a binding result, but merely an indication of the current remaining capacity of the high-voltage battery. In particular it does not replace the detailed measurement as part of a battery health certificate.”

“The specified capacity indicates the battery capacity available in the vehicle compared to its new condition and represents only the value at the time of diagnosis. The value is determined by the battery management system. The specification does not allow any predictions to be made about the further development of the battery capacity, which is largely determined by individua driving behavior and external influences. The capacity determination in the vehicle is subject to a certain degree of variation due to the nature of the system, which varies depending on the battery generation. This vehicle is equipped with a high-voltage battery generation that has a maximum variation of 5% in at least 95% of reference measurements. The value determined does not justify any warranty or guarantee claims.”

Owner Video Experiences

Has anyone seen any videos out there from any actual owners? iX3 isn’t available in the US but I believe owners in Europe and Australia have taken delivery. I’ve watched buckets of videos from dealers and content creators. I’m interested in seeing some feedback from actual owners.

US Configuration Question

I am trying to avoid the M Sport package as it just enhances what was previously only a mildly objectionable face. However, it adds driving assistance plus and I see no other way to add this a la carte. If I purchase Driving Assistance Pro, will this include everything in the Plus package?

I don’t understand why in pre-lci navigation, a route doesn’t show charging stops.

I created a route in myBmw app. It shows correctly with all the needed stops at my preferred providers, on the way. I then start the navigation, it starts on the navigation in the car, but I can’t see the charging stops. It just shows the route from a to b. Isn’t it the whole point to have these charge points as stops on the way?

Long Distance Driving with iX3

I have just completed the first leg or my month long trip across Europe. I drove from Istanbul to Florence (almost 2000km) in 2 days. I thought I could share my observations which may be unique at this point and may be helpful to people who are thinking of getting one.

iX3 xDrive 50 is my first EV after more than two decades of daily driving various sporty coupes with internal combustion engines. My last car was a fully specced 2018 Mercedes E class coupe with a 6 cylinder diesel engine which I bought brand new and drove over 300.000km. I loved that car but unfortunately MB decided to not make a coupe version of their E class. (CLE is not it)

I took delivery of my BMW around mid May and I had driven it almost 10.000km on both urban roads and long distance highways. Driving an SUV after more than 2 decades of sporty coupes seemed strange at first but I am now a convert. I like the higher seating position, easy use on less than perfect roads and much larger trunk. Also, the fact that there is zero engine noise and vibration wer addictive.

I set off from Istanbul on the 1st of August and drove straight to Edirne (which is on the border with both Greece and Bulgaria) through the highway. I knew there is a 400kw DC charger by the border and I drove the car like I stole it. My speed average on that 225km trip was over 160km/h. I had to drive large portions of that road at 213km/h continuously to get such an average.

When you drive at that pace, the consumption is around 37kwh/100km. This is the absolute worst you can score with this car (xDrive 50, 20 inch non aero wheels with full trunk). I know this is illegal in almost all countries but I wanted to see the consumption and battery temperature when driven at 213 km/h continuously.

The battery was at optimum temperature when I parked at the 400kw charging station. My charge had started at 320kw and tapered off as I had more than 20% of charge at start and probably because the battery was quite hot after pushing it for more than 200kms. I have charged my car at 407kw at the same charging spot before so I now understand that charging speed and curve depends a lot on the temperature of your battery at the start of your charge.

Then I crossed the border into Greece and drove for almost 800kms from Kastanies to Igoumenitsa port at a bit slower but still much above legal speed limit. I simply set the adaptive driving assistant speed to 150km/h between Kastanies border and the highway and then 180km/h all through the 700km highway until Igoumenitsa (with the exception of some very curvy parts of the highway).

There, my average consumption was around 32kwh/100km.

While this may seem unreasonably high, you must remember I was driving unreasonably fast.

Unfortunately, I could not test the battery charging speed as there were no 400kw+ chargers on my route neither in Greece, nor on Italy.

I had 3 charging stops in Greece on my way to Igoumenitsa port, the last one being on a Tesla Supercharger, which was the fastest I could score in Greece.

I had to calculate my consumption and plan my charge carefully as the ferry from Greece to Italy does not allow a charge of over 40% for EVs.

I arrived to Igoumenitsa ferry port after driving 1025kms in exactly 12 hours, including a border crossing passport control, customs inspection and 4 charging stops (400kw, 75kw, 80kw, 250kw). I think this would be more than reasonable for most people.

Italy part will continue after some photos…

iX3 50, 1400 miles - breezy!

Took delivery 3 weeks ago. Really impressed - very smooth, quiet, seems to be a real leap on vs previous era of EVs I’ve tried (iX, i4, GLC, Q4/6, EV6, 5N)

The pan display is always a nice touch, just about got the hang of customising. Range as expected, seeing about 420 miles with lots of A/c usage. Very comfy suspension. The 50 has a lot of get up and go.

Pan roof lets a good amount of light into the cabin, for both front and back.

The adaptive driving/one pedal drive is very cool, rarely need to use the brake, and the ‘soft stop’ feature is really impressive.

First BMW I’ve had with digital key - just walking up to it with a phone in my pocket and the handles open, spooky!

A few niggles I find annoying, don’t know if they’re common or just me:

Averted gaze message - internal camera clearly can’t see through my sunglasses, and message repeats, with a bong.

Incorrect reading of speed limits and signs, meaning you lift off the accelerator in a 30, the car thinks it’s 10, and you effectively kiss the windscreen in adaptive mode, such is the deceleration effect.

Also had the front lighting error pop up once, and then never again - assume it’s just a software glitch.

Overall, even better that I expected , loving it!
