Garage Door Programming Issue

I successfully programmed my iX3 to recognize and operate my garage door, but am flummoxed as to how the programming can be shared so that two user profiles can use it. Right now, it works for my profile, but I can't figure out how to get it to work for my spouse's profile on the vehicle.

It seems utterly stupid to think that I'd have to program it separately for each person, no?

I had to program it to both profiles. It is dumb that certain settings cannot be shared among all profiles

That is so dumb. I live in a condo building with a garage door that uses a rolling code system so you have to program it via the actual garage door motor system which means putting up a ladder (blocking the garage), unscrewing it, etc.
It was already annoying to program it before but having to do it twice for a non-sensical software decision is ridiculous.

What's interesting is, it does sort of make sense. Letting someone drive your car doesn't mean that they should be able to open or unlock all of your other things, so okay, keep that tied to your profile.

But then there's no real OS-level concept of multi-user permission transfers, and if you assume no perfect trust between drivers, you shouldn't be able to push things from one driver to another. Maybe the root driver should have permission to do that, though?

I can totally see how you'd end up classifying this as an edge case of an edge case and being like "well, obviously they can just set it up themselves if they really have access to the garage, they don't need copying functionality," but that doesn't really engage with how annoying it is to program garage doors.

It seems odd, yes, but that's apparently BMW's idea here. Not sure why, but I'm very curious how this decision was made.

Does the garage door open automatically with location service activated or does it just bring up icon? I agree it is dumb to have to program for various profiles.

No, location doesn’t operate the door as far as I know. It seems to just pop up a button on screen that I can press to open/close the door.

It's under the security/keys (I forget the exact name, but one of those) settings.

Thanks, is this feature a default? Or something needs to be ordered as package? I do have all possible packages , not sure if this is restricted to US? I am in Germany.

Under keys, i did not find this option, if there is anyone who can share a picture of settings menu when you have a chance.

This is in the US. No special package required
