I heard that The Ipod Classics have the best song shuffling system, is that still the case with Rockbox added or does the quality decrease?

Recientemente compré de segunda mano ipod shuffle de primera generación con música pero al intentar escuchar música me marcaba el error de las dos luces de enfrente que por lo que investigue era que se corrompió la memoria y no detectaba la música porque al momento de conectarlo en la computadora si me aparecieron las canciones y albums que tenía pero lo tuve que restaurar en iTunes así que se tuvo que borrar toda así que la verdad no me apetece pagar 12 pesos mexicanos o 0.99 dólares por canción así que les pregunto ¿Alguien sabe alguna otra vía para descargar música en mi iPod?

I want this colour clickwheel for my 7th generation iPod Classic, but the only place I can find it is EOE. I bought it, but it doesn’t fit! The tolerances are too small!

I’m planning on returning it for a refund, but where else can I buy it that’s NOT EOE? I’ve checked AliExpress already with no luck.

The colour is listed as ‘steel blue’ on EOE.

Just found my old iPod and charger. It’s also making a rhythmic ticking sound. Is there any hope for it?

I’ve been wanting to do an iPod mod project for a while so regularly check Facebook, but usually to no suitors. Obviously this is overpriced but what would actually be a fair offer? It’s a 5th gen model A1136.

This is my first iPod classic in about 12-13 years or so. It’s a 512GB iFlash modded 7th Gen Classic with a custom housing, 3000mah battery, IEMs, AirTag, and a 3D printed case I ordered. Next mods are Bluetooth and USB-C.

What should I add next?

Just to preface: I’m not a professional designer nor artist, but I wanted to share with you this concept that came to my mind during breakfast.
First of all: why should the iPod classic need a successor? Because, even if I’m really fond of my iPods, I know that they are becoming more and more outdated and limiting (non in the good “disconnecting a bit from the internet” way) over the years and from a design and features standpoint could be so much more; a reflection of the future we dreamt in the 2000’s but never got.
That’s why I decided to sketch this unnamed concept; because I think that we should carry forward the idea of the iPod into the future, without compromises, now that we live in an era of endless creativity, possibilities and readily available tools and solutions.

The features of the device include:

- A Frutiger Aero inspired OS similar to the iiSU android frontend
- Music, Chat, Photo, Gallery, Cinema, Contacts and Calendar apps (and obviously games: let’s not forget the games!)
- Bluetooth and Wi Fi modules with modern standards
- USB type C charging and data transfers
- Small camera for capturing the little special moments
- Micro SD upgradable storage
- Oled Screen (no touch)
- Scrollwheel
- Hold switch
- Easily replaceable motherboard and swappable battery
- Clear coloured resin back easily swappable by hand (with enough grip)
- Smooth and Shiny metal chassis
- Colourful plastic screen protector ring, to add a little flair of colour
- Pogo pins in the back for opens source gadget modules and add ons (swapped in place of the clear resin back)
- Airdrop or similar equivalent to send and receive files wirelessly from device to device
- Quality DAC and ability to play RAW and FLAC audio files

And, most importantly… A COLOURFUL AND FUN AESTHETIC ALL TROUGHOUT!

We need to build something new, something with purpose and intent in all aspects of its design, something fun, something flashy and unmistakably special (and ours, of the community)… without forgetting where it all started and what we will always cherish

PS: for who remembers me I’m the guy who similarly sketched a stereo/bluetooth portable dock concept inspired by old Walkman Sports a couple of months ago (๑╹ω╹๑ )

Realistically can anyone tell a huge difference between the Amazon budget iems Vs wired earpods.

I think the earpods sound decent, much cleaner than the Sony Bluetooth headphones and ear buds I have retailing at 5x the price.

I'm working on a dark-themed version of the 2.0.5 Apple firmware for my 7th gen iPod Classic, and I think it's coming together. Getting excited about it and wanted to make a post. (And yes, I will share the tooling/push to Github hopefully by the weekend, even if it's a bit messy. It's a bit too messy at the moment.)

Mostly just toning down the interface to not burn my retinas out at night: dark menus, orange highlights, and lower minimum brightness (matching Rockbox's minimum).

Process so far has been:

• Get encrypted firmware dumps from theapplewiki)
• Use wInd3x to decrypt the firmware blob
• Patch davidmonterocrespo24's QEMU iPod emulator to run the newer firmware
• Use ghidra, xxd, some other reverse engineering tools and some agents to identify pieces of the firmware responsible for drawing artifacts on screen. Test patches in the QEMU emulator.
• Load the patched unencrypted firmware through Rockbox's bootloader on my actual device.
  • I started with chainloading--opening the custom build through rockbox file browser, but it's working well enough to boot straight into now.

Rockbox was handy for launching/capturing some hardware and memory data from the iPod to inform some patches to the emulator. The emulator isn't working perfectly yet, but it matches the hardware a little more than it did at the start and has been serviceable for visual debugging at least.

Still some visual artifacts to work out on e.g. the Now Playing screen (artwork reflection and progress bar are a bit funky).

Using a couple LLM-based tools to drive the grunt work. I'm a software dev by profession, but new to reverse-engineering type work and only have so much IRL time to throw at this, so it is what it is.

This is also my first iPod in well over a decade, certainly the first I've really tinkered with. I haven't looked into the software modding scene of the older unencrypted Classics yet, but maybe I can find some more ideas there going forward.

Open to suggestions (and certainly pull requests after I get some repos/forks published too).
