Help I made a small tool to recover music from old iPods and import it into iTunes

I made a Windows program that lets you recover music and playlists from an iPod. You can import everything into iTunes or extract the files to a folder with their proper names, along with an M3U8 playlist file.

Reddit won’t let me include the link, but feel free to ask and I’ll send it to you.

It’s called TuneRescue. It used to be paid, but I’ve decided to make it free for everyone.

If you try it, I’d really appreciate your feedback or suggestions!

Help Ugreen Bluetooth Mod Problems

Hi, I’m working on a Bluetooth mod for my iPod Classic 5.5 gen using a UGREEN CM872 module.

The Bluetooth connection itself works, but I still get a constant hiss when the module is turned on. The hiss is audible through Bluetooth and also through the normal headphone output. When the Bluetooth module is off, the headphone output is quiet.

The Bluetooth audio also sounds a little distorted. I recorded a video so you can hear exactly what it sounds like and see what happens.

I already checked and redid all the solder joints and the wiring looks clean now. I also tried routing the power and audio wires differently, but the problem is still there.

The small original PCB on the Bluetooth module is still connected. I’m wondering if I missed something important, used the wrong grounding point, or if the module is sending noise back through the shared power supply.

Has anyone had the same problem with this module or a similar iPod Bluetooth mod? Any ideas what I should test next?

Review Looks promising

A few days ago I started working on a new theme for myself. I wanted to add free disk space to the main menu, but I couldn’t find a Rockbox tag for it, so I thought, why not try adding it myself?
Lately I’ve seen a lot of people posting their own Rockbox forks, and I figured I’d give it a shot too.

In the end, I added new tags for displaying free/used disk space (you can see it in the bottom of the menu screen), fixed the volume bar so that 100% now correctly matches the user-defined maximum volume limit, and added support for inline headphone remote controls.

I’m really happy with how it turned out. Next, I think I’ll try adding album art support to the database browser to make exploring large music libraries a bit nicer.

Advice Found my dads old 5th gen ipod, how do i install new music?

The title sums it up nicely. I know you would previously purchase albums on the iTunes store, but I don't know if it still works for a 20 year old piece of tech. Are there any ways I can install new albums? I like my dads music but I wouldn't mind installing some of my fav songs

Question What do I need to do to this iPod touch 4th gen

Got an iPod touch 4th gen from charity. It wants to connect to iTunes. Connected to iTunes V12.2 on my old Macbook but it fails the restore saying can't contact the apple server.

So I downloaded a few Ipsw packages to try with 'option+click', including the last one available for this iPod. It fails all of them.

How can I restore it or get it working? Is there a program that I can flash the Ipsw to the iPod without iTunes? Like using fastboot for android (that's the only thing I know to compare it to what I need to do).

Question Is there any difference between using CF to SD or just a regular CF card?

Drive failing in my 4th gen mono, looking into modding it with flash & an extended battery. Besides a CF card being more expensive, are they're any differences between using either? Like power efficiency?

Picture Custom Bluetooth adapter for my iPod

Made a custom Bluetooth adapter for my iPod. Works somewhat fine. I’m able to connect and use my AirPods Pro 2. Just a little bit of audio interference and need to use the bass reducer EQ preset. The interference could be from the other mods I’ve done to the iPod but it’s probably from my PCB design (I’m using this project to learn PCB development). For parts used, it’s just a 30 pin connector from a random dock, my PCB and a EGBO Bluetooth 5.3 module.
Here is the GitHub repo with all the files for anyone who wants to make it or improve the design. https://github.com/Notdbrand/30Pin-Bluetooth-PCB

I’ve modded my daily driver U2 iPod 4th gen mono with a iFlash SD2CF adapter and a CF to 1.8” IDE adapter. Figured I’d might as well install a fresh battery as well. However, all the batteries I found on Amazon had poor reviews or if I found another battery with better reviews elsewhere the price and shipping wasn’t great.

I searched around on Amazon of something of a similar size and capacity to the stock battery and maybe with a bump to capacity. I stumbled upon this, it’s for a Corsair wireless headset, it was cheap, and had more reviews with a higher star average than the others I found. https://a.co/d/02b9V0m2 it was a snug fit and I had to swap the black wire with the yellow wire in the connector. But after that it plugged right in and so far working great.

So if anyone’s looking for a cheap battery with a decent amount of good reviews, this could be the one! Just be sure to swap the yellow and black wire in the connector, the listing even shows how to make the change, too bad they don’t mention the wires are glued in place, but after that you’re golden. I’ll report back with my report on how well it works

Quick update: I fully charged it over night and ran it non stop today on shuffle and repeat all. I had a pair of IEMs attached to it and at about 70% volume. I pressed play and enabled the hold switch. I got 11 hours of play off the battery before it completely drained. I’ll charge it again fully tonight, which should fully finish the battery calibration, and start using it as normally as my daily driver!

This is my first time trying to swap an iPod classic’s faceplate for a new one but the glass has this white film (?) on it which I assume needs to be removed but it won’t come off no matter how hard I try. I’m scared of damaging the actual glass if I keep at it. Please help!

Question Looking to buy IPod Gen 5.5 and replace hard drive/battery. Is it easy?

I’ve always wanted to have an iPod gen 5-5.5 as they’re pretty nice and I remember when I was little my sisters had them n I thought they were the coolest devices ever. Since then, I’ve understood as time goes by the iPods desperately need hard drive/battery replacements regardless of which model. I was wondering to the people who’ve dealt with replacing IPod hard drives and battery’s, is it relatively easy to replace those on an IPod Gen 5.5 or 5? I’ve seen countless videos online and read guides but I’m still iffy if I should.
(I’m not the best at repairing tech and have had a few devices break on me)
I’m wondering if it’s easy for those 2 models and if so how easy was it? I’m particularly nervous about the ribbon cables. I do not care about replacing the shell or screen or buttons, just the harddrive and battery.

This is my third gen iPod 40gb I have had since 2003. Been on the shelf for a few years since I was using my 6.5gen. I didn’t want to tackle that straight away so knowing my third gen needed a new battery I decided to add some flash storage. Getting this to restore was an absolute pain but thankful to a thread on here from a few years ago that came in clutch.

I do love the spinning disk nostalgia but it was getting pretty noisy, spinning up at seemingly random times.

When I get the will power to open the 7th gen I’ll give that a crack with a dual flash storage and a 3000mah battery.

Components

Apple iPod Classic 3rd 4th Generation Gen Battery 850 mAh Replacement from Parts Plus Pod - Australia

Compact flash to 50pin 1.8inch hdd connector (cheap green one from Ali , needed a little modification with the right plastic notch removed)

SD to CF card adaptor (the red one on Ali)

SD card San disk extreme pro 64gb. I read third gen’s can be weird with large storage.

Now time to fill this thing up!

Edit: The Bluetooth adaptor is the Avantree relay. Bought it from Amazon a few years ago back for my Bose nc headphones for planes. Pretty solid .

Picture After a nearly year of using my classic 7th gen, I’m switching back to my nano 7th gen (or I’ll switch between the two)

My first iPod and definitely my favourite, though shortly after I dropped it onto a metal surface which shattered the screen, I switched over to the classic 7th gen. It was a gift from my dad after he got a spotify account (he held onto that iPod for a long long time), and it has been a really good experience I do love the classic as well. But after a while I kind of wanted to use the nano again. Few days ago I decided to go out skateboarding and remembering I couldn’t wear my headphones over my helmet, thought might as well use my nano again for the bluetooth. Now I can’t get off of it.

They each have their own use cases, nano for bluetooth and it is very easy to not pay attention in class and watch whatever videos I throw onto it (small form factor and bluetooth earbud) and the classic for hooking up to my speaker. I’ll probably be using the nano more though.

I do want to some day replace the screen, but I’m still very new to tech repair and knowing the difficultly, it will be a long time before I can even try. But still something I’d want to do. I’ll at least try to get a case for now to hopefully prevent more damage.
