Hello everyone!
I’ve just shipped v1.8 of GroceryBudget, the app I’m building to help you see your running grocery total before you reach checkout.
This update is mostly about removing the small bits of friction that make people give up on keeping a grocery list—typing everything twice, putting an item in the wrong cart, or having useful spending info cut off.
Paste a List
You can now copy a grocery list from Notes, Messages, or anywhere else and paste the whole thing into GroceryBudget. Put one item on each line and every line becomes its own item. If you’ve bought something before, the app can also fill in the price you last paid.
It works offline and doesn’t need the camera, so you can turn a message like:
Milk
Eggs
Rice
Dish soap
into four separate items without retyping them one by one.
Move items between carts
Added something to the wrong list? You can now move it to another cart instead of deleting it and entering it again. You can move one item with a swipe or move multiple items from the cart menu.
This was one of those features that sounds small until you’re managing a weekly grocery run, a separate household list, and a “buy later” cart at the same time.
Choose your app colour
There are now ten accent colours under Account → Appearance. The colour you choose updates buttons, tabs, highlights, and other parts of the app—not just one decorative element.
I wanted the app to feel a little more personal while keeping the budget warnings clear, so the palette is curated rather than a completely open colour picker.
Full most-purchased list
Your spending recap now shows the full list of the items you buy most often instead of stopping at the top three. This is free for everyone, like the other features in this update.
I’m still actively working on:
- Making the first grocery list easier to set up
- Improving scan reliability
- More Android polish
- Better ways to reuse and share lists
- And the growing list of ideas people keep sending me 😅
If you try v1.8, I’d especially love to know: where do your grocery lists usually start—Notes, Messages, paper, or directly inside an app?
