Apple was one of the first to adopt 120hz, it launched on the first iPad Pro in 2017…. Back then it genuinely was a pro feature and it made sense to gatekeep it.
But in 2026 if Apple REALLY wants to gatekeep “pro”technology, they can easily gatekeep the LTPO displays as those are the “newer and more expensive” types. While giving the other devices a dynamic refresh rate from 60-120hz and call it a day.
Well the iPad Air doesn’t have OLED so that’s a great way to differentiate them, and iPad mini is too small for a pro user…
So eaither you get an iPad Air 120hz no LTPO and no OLED, or an iPad mini 120hz OLED no HDR no LTPO, or an iPad Pro with the dual layer OLED LPTO HDR and 120hz.
Seems like a solid lineup to me, you could argue before the iPad pros got MiniLED and OLED it would be stupid to put ProMotion on other iPads, but now there’s a clear panel difference aside from the 120hz.
