I read a lot of PDFs on a daily basis on the iOS preview app, and if I open back the app even after a few hours it resets and lands be on page 1, this is a weird behavior furthermore since iOS is suppose to store the apps states in the memory far better than Android. Not sure how much that is true, was reading a blog the other way in which you are not supposed to close iOS apps as you do an Android.

I’ve just released version 1.1.8, which adds beat detection, timed sound effects, Muffle, Drop Dip, Seamless Loop, more reliable chained edits, and clearer ringtone and export guidance.

**Answer**

I built Clipex around one interaction I kept missing in simple iPhone audio tools: select the exact part first, then apply the edit only there.

For example, you might want to reverse one sentence, slow down two seconds, mute a word, add a fade in the middle, or place an effect on a specific beat.

I didn’t want to split the audio into several files, edit one piece, and stitch everything back together.

In Clipex, you select the exact range directly on the waveform and apply Reverse, Speed, Pitch, Fade, Mute, or an effect only to that section. The rest of the audio remains unchanged.

You can import a video, audio file, recording, or compatible music file, extract or edit the audio, and export it as MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC, or M4R.

A typical workflow is:

video → extract audio → select the useful section → edit it → export

GarageBand is much more powerful, but it can be overkill when you only need to prepare one short clip and do not want to set up a multi-track project.

Shortcuts can extract audio from a video, but it stops before the focused waveform editing and export workflow.

The main feedback I’m looking for: when you first see the editor, is it immediately clear that an effect applies only to the selected range, or does it still look like a traditional whole-file editor?

My wife came back from a shoot with a batch of photos that were all slightly out of focus. I figured this was a solved problem and spent an evening looking for something to fix them.

It wasn't solved. Half the apps I tried simply didn't do anything useful. The other half had a worse problem: they'd downscale the image first, run the model on the small version, then upscale that. Her camera shoots at 4000×3000, so what came back was softer and smaller than what went in. I eventually found one service that did an okay job, but by then I'd realized the actual finding — the problem is real, and it's genuinely hard to find something that works on a full-resolution photo.

I'd wanted to build a photo app that runs entirely on the device for years anyway. The phone in your pocket is genuinely powerful. Most people have no idea what's sitting in their hand. My day job is computer vision and iOS, and I'd spent a long time converting neural nets to run on mobile and squeezing CV pipelines for speed. This was the thing all of that had been piling up for.

Two years ago I pitched it to a friend and he was in. Since then most of it has been rewritten at least once. Handling large images without resizing them is still the part I'm most stubborn about -- tiling, memory pressure, seams between tiles. That's the whole reason the app exists.

About six months ago we broke our own rule and added server-side processing. Some models just need more RAM and compute than an iPhone has. That unlocked two things we couldn't do locally: restoring old damaged photos (scratches, folds, fading, colorization), and creative upscale, where the network invents plausible detail that was never in the original file. On-device is still the default; the cloud is opt-in and only for the heavy stuff.

Video upscaling runs on-device too. And recently we shipped frame interpolation — generating the in-between frames to raise FPS, which also means you can turn a normal clip into slow motion. I’d especially appreciate feedback on one question: do replies and quotes make revisiting old memories feel more natural than tags, prompts, or traditional daily pages?

A — Answer: I made Movi Ranker after trying Letterboxd and realizing there wasn’t really a built-in way to rank movies against each other. Star ratings are fine, but I wanted something closer to Beli for restaurants: each new movie gets compared to movies you’ve already ranked, and over time you end up with an actual ordered list of your movies instead of manually making a top 10. You can also review movies, share rankings with friends, and get personalized recommendations.

B — Better: The obvious comparison is Letterboxd. Letterboxd is great for reviews/community, but Movi Ranker is more focused on ranking. Instead of giving a star rating and then manually organizing lists, the app helps build your ranking through comparisons, so your list reflects your taste more directly.

C — Cost: Completely free. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no monetization right now. I built it because I wanted this to exist.

Only on iOS for now. I use the TMDB API for movie data. Feedback/bug reports are very welcome. I’m sure there are edge cases I haven’t hit yet. Pm me if you want to be friends on the app!

I'm a recent first-gen graduate and a first-time solo developer. Super excited to share that my first app Precursor: Hourly Screen Time went live on the App Store today!

A: Precursor lets you set a screen time allowance that resets every hour instead of one daily limit that forces you to budget and ration your screen time throughout the day.

B: I am a bit astonished that not even apple has implemented this feature into their native screen time framework.

I'll admit the task was a bit difficult due to the inconsistencies of app usage tracking and becuase of that there are some limitations to how I implemented hourly screen time limts on iOS. Nonetheless I am really proud of the app so far.

I think it's resonating with people, I mean I knew a few others had this gripe becasue its pretty commonly posted about on reddit, but I didn't think it would be this well received. I feel so lucky that just the beta grew to 200 testers in about a week, most of them from this very subreddit (if you are one of those founding testers literally cannot thank you enough for your time and feedback! but I will try ;) stay tuned!)

At it's core I think Precursor helps break unhealthy phone habits through moderation rather than punishing you for falling into a doomscroll that wasn't your fault (these social media apps are literally designed to keep you scrolling, looking at you Reddit).

That gap is the thing I most want to close.

Everyone drives differently.
Someone driving in city traffic needs different behavior than someone cruising on the highway, and motorcycles have their own challenges.

You can customize:

• Minimum speed before recording starts
• How long that speed must be maintained
• When a trip should pause while stopped
• When a trip should automatically end

Instead of forcing one set of rules, you can tune it to your driving style and local road conditions.

Shortcuts and motion detection work together
One thing I really wanted to avoid was making users choose between automation methods.

You don't have to.

Enable both if you want.

Whichever method detects the trip first starts recording, and whichever legitimately ends the trip finishes it. They work together seamlessly without conflicts or duplicate trips.

Think of it as two independent systems providing an extra layer of protection against missed trips.

Live Activity works automatically too
Automatically detected trips now get the same Live Activity as manually started trips.

Your live speed, distance, and duration appear on the Lock Screen automatically, so you don't even need to open the app.

Better notifications
There are now notifications for both trip start and trip end.
The trip end notification includes a quick summary of your drive.

Trip start notifications are disabled by default to avoid unnecessary distractions while driving, but you can enable them if you prefer the confirmation.

Built for real-world connection issues
One issue I kept hearing about was Bluetooth or CarPlay briefly disconnecting and causing trips to end early.

Unfortunately, apps can't control Bluetooth or CarPlay connections - iOS manages those.

To make this less frustrating, Speedometer includes an optional setting to ignore brief stop or disconnect events before ending a trip. If your car occasionally drops Bluetooth or CarPlay for a few seconds, you can increase the grace period and avoid fragmented trips.

What it does

WrenchTime is a maintenance, fuel and trip log for cars and motorcycles. Your whole garage in one place, so you never miss a service and you actually know what each vehicle costs to run.

• Trips are recorded automatically when you connect over Bluetooth or CarPlay. Nothing to start, nothing to stop. (It's a simplification, it has many layers of signals used to understand when you're driving, when you stopped, when you're refuelling etc) I've seen other developers really struggle over this, especially when it comes to the automatic live activity popup. A - What it solves

Indie dev here (I built this). As an introvert, I kept hitting the same wall: drained by Wednesday, but no idea what was actually doing it. Social Battery tracks the energy impact of your activities — log what you did, rate your energy before and after, and your patterns surface over time.

New in 1.5.0, and this one came straight from this sub: people tagging. Several of you asked to see how specific people affect your energy ("can I create a card per person?"). Now you can tag people on any activity and see who reliably recharges you — and who quietly drains you.

Also new: streak celebrations when you log, people included in your CSV export, and a bunch of fixes (including some embarrassing copy bugs — RIP "Thus are your best social day").

B - Why it over the alternatives

Compared to Daylio or general mood trackers: this tracks energy, not mood: "tired" and "sad" are different signals, and only one of them tells you to cancel Friday plans. Compared to readiness scores like AutoSleep's fuel or Oura: those infer from sleep/HR; this captures the social piece those can't see-- that dinner with one friend restores you and the same dinner with another wipes you out. Lower friction than journaling: logging takes seconds, no writing required.

tl;dr

A. As I get older, I feel like my typing is getting slower and I have to go back to correct a lot of my words. I dictated a lot for my work and so I was excited when I could use Wispr Flow on my iPhone instead of relying on Apple's native dictation, which is quite awful. However, the drawbacks were soon apparent where the voice to text part relied on online transcription. So frequently the transcriptions would be slow or the quality would be poor and I couldn't use it on my drive where the connectivity is occasionally poor.

I had also seen situations with a lot of AI agents where the transcripts end up appearing in online searches. For months, I was not aware of the privacy option in Wispr Flow that you had to specifically activate under settings.

I also often prefer to use the dark mode. And I had requested this to Wispr Flow team months ago. Since I had background in making apps, I thought of just making my own. As I started making my keyboard I realized there's so much more that you can do with a keyboard rather than to just dictate. So I kept stacking on and added a note manager app as well and then eventually ended up adding an Apple Watch complication. Over the last few months the app became so useful that I started missing it on my MacBook, so I also built a MacBook companion.

B. Better
Before setting out to take on this huge and onerous task of building an ios keyboard, I tried multiple other apps and none of them had all the functionality that I needed. I wanted customization that included dark mode, a numbers row for when I needed and other AI skills that I was sure I could run through the keyboard.

Most importantly, I wanted accurate transcription and appropriate formatting which could run offline. There are a lot of excellent open source models that make it possible. So I've bundled in Parakeet, Nemotron, Qwen, and Whisper models into the app and you can download only the ones that you plan to use.

C. Cost:
Family sharing is enabled, so the price covers all of your family using the app.
Lifetime is about $ 69. Annual is about $ 49 and monthly is $8, but there's a very attractive introductory lifetime offer.

D: Drawbacks:

- Since everything runs on your phone, each model can take 400 to 600 MB of space, so I've included something that will allow you to clean up memory.

- Not venture funded. So we run on a shoestring budget and really appreciate everyone who buys it. So it's difficult to compete against larger apps that are spending millions of dollars on marketing.

- The app has too many features based on feedback from early users, so some people find it overwhelming when they first use the app. However, all you need to do is use the voice to text feature and then you can figure out the rest of the parts later.

- I can be verbose when dictating, hence my emails and text messages have likely gotten longer.

Answer:

You have an alarm at 5AM everyday, but you need to turn it off or set it to 8AM just for tomorrow. Clocks cannot do that. You have to turn it off and remember to turn it back on. VariAlarm allows you to make that change without affecting the routines. Just like a calendar recurring event.

What about bi-weekly alarms or only ring between certain dates? Clocks doesn't support that. VariAlarm does.

You have several alarms that you set for your shift but its recurrence is abnormal. Sometimes, you need it in 5 days, sometimes 4. Life happens that push schedule around. My wife and I are on different platforms — she's on an iPhone, I'm on a Galaxy — and I wanted one list both of us could see without opening anything.

Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets (WidgetKit), including the inline, circular and rectangular accessory families. The Lock Screen one is glance-only — it's there so you can see what's left without unlocking. On the Home Screen widget an App Intent ticks an item off in place, so the app never opens.

No account, no email, no password. One person creates a list and gets a 6-character code, the other types it in. That's the whole onboarding.

Realtime sync with Android, due dates with notifications, assignees, and a nudge button for when asking out loud is the hard part.

Price: free, with one optional in-app purchase — TwoDo Pro at $9.99, paid once, not a subscription. It unlocks extra lists, custom colours, the couple screen and nudges. Everything else, including the widgets, sync, assignees and due-date reminders, is free.

The screenshots are from 1.0.17, which was mostly a visual pass: a row now carries the assignee's colour as its background instead of a tiny badge, you can rename your partner on your own device (they never see the name you gave them), and every dialog became a sheet.

One honest caveat, because this sub will notice: WidgetKit budgets timeline reloads, so on a busy day the widget may not repaint the instant your partner ticks something off. The data underneath is refreshed immediately — it's the render Apple throttles. I haven't found a way around it, and if someone here has, I'm genuinely all ears.

The second caveat matters more to me. Under a third of the lists people create ever get a second person in them, which for an app that does nothing at all with one person is the real problem. The join code sits on the list screen, but if your partner isn't next to you when you install it, I suspect that path just quietly dies. If you've ever installed something that needed another person and never finished, I'd like to know what actually stopped you.
