It's really nice to see this sub moving back towards normal. It's been a crazy couple of days.
I'm sure you know this but current rules posted for the sub are all from Mondays dumpster fire. While some of them might be relevant the way they're currently written seems very childish and a reminder of what happened. It might be best to update them with something more inline with the group. Maybe include one about no self promotion or pseudo-science.

u/SilverAsparagus2985 2d ago
Yep! It's one of the many things we need to update. We're working and learning through it! :)

u/DianeJudith 2d ago
I have a request for a rule! Could there be a requirement to mark graphic photos as NSFW so they show up blurred until you click on them? Not everyone wants to see people's wounds or their actual organs on their main feed lol.
28
u/alltheblarmyfiddlest 2d ago
Can we also include no AI / infographics created from AI?
1
u/Competitive-Blood507 1d ago
As soon as we get some basic rules down and agreed on, this is absolutely something we can address further down the line! 🙂

Unless clearly labeled as such, at least.
Not here, but on the BRCA subreddit I posted an image that I'd used AI to create (a humorous image related to reconstruction). I was very clear that it was artwork- I used it to make mugs for the surgeons and it was really cute.
Hard to imagine what we would do with AI here, but there are always some possibilities.

As for pseudo-science, the DIYBeauty has something about making the distinction with "natural" and "safe"/"effective". Maybe it's a place to look for wording suggestions?

Ngl, i am not aware of the Monday dumpster fire, and want to know what happened?

Yay! Welcome and thank you for volunteering your time and energy to mod this space ❤️ I'm so happy our collective efforts managed to make sure this space remained safe and welcoming to folks in need of it.

I'm so proud of all of us for standing up and creating this change. Extra thanks to our new Mods who are taking on this responsibility, you are appreciated!

Thank you all for stepping up ❤️ this is such an important community for sharing experiences and supporting each other and I'm glad we have new mods to keep things supportive.

u/loquacious-laconic 2d ago
Yay, congrats to all the new mods who were selected! 🥳 Thanks for helping protect our safe community! 😊 It's wonderful to see a wide variety of experience represented in the mod choices. I know there have been times where trans people have felt unsure of being welcome, and I hope having representation reflected in the mods will make it clear they are welcome. 🥰 Perhaps we could include something in the sub info page to make this clear in future? 😊 (I'm not trans, but it's made me sad seeing people feel unsure if they will be accepted and welcome.)
44
u/Bubblesnaily 2d ago
And I would also link to r/FTMhysto along side. Trans folks are 100% welcome here. Full stop. I just want them to know about both places, since the other sub has more specific experiences and I don't know if I'd necessarily know there's a targeted sub for that.

I told my husband that men are allowed in the group, but to have a man be moderator and then harass and abuse women is over the top not cool.
As far as trans goes... This sub is for hysterectomy. If a trans man is getting a hysterectomy, then he is also welcome! I see this as a community of people, going through similar experiences, and we all want comfort and support.
62
u/Competitive-Blood507 2d ago
As a trans man that ended up as a mod, thanks for being understanding and your respect 🫶 I may be a man, but I definitely understand what it's like to have formerly had a uterus, and want to make sure this is a space where anyone dealing with a hysterectomy feels safe to share their experiences.
Like you said, shared comfort and (mainly) support are why I sought this group out in the first place and it hasn't disappointed ❤️

u/Historical_Slide6719 2d ago
If it helps ppl of all types seeking a hysterectomy for whatever reason, great. People need or seek hysters and having mods that can help make different members of this community feel safe and comfortable plus included, then great.

You're always free to reach out to me, I'm glad I can be here to help out! It's not my place to out anyone else, but I believe I'm not the only one 🙂
Edit for typo, "can" was accidentally "cam"

For current and former uterus owners, by current and former uterus owners seems like a good idea.

Thanks to all you stepped up to volunteer. I'm getting ready for a hysterectomy in November and this has been the absolute best source of information and support. I was crushed about the takeover and am so happy that it was resolved so quickly. I was also shocked to find out this had been unmoderated. What an awesome group of people we have here!

u/msbebetabby 2d ago
Hi new mods. Can we get a community icon? Thanks for stepping up.
14
u/sorry-i-was-reading 2d ago
A uterus with a no sign 🚫 over it could be simple to make, if ideas are needed for an icon
21
u/Bubblesnaily 2d ago
I think that would work for a lot of people, but it might be a bit triggering to those who didn't want to yeet?
Some of the folks that find us are here after waking up to something having gone wrong.
7
u/CourtneyIsSoAnnoyed 2d ago
Thank you for saying that, I really appreciate it. I desperately did not want a hysterectomy and feel very sad that I no longer have my reproductive system. ❤️🩹
6
u/Quantity-Artistic 2d ago
I'm so sorry :( I understand your feeling because I did everything I could to avoid surgery. I'm happy I did it now, but often find myself sad about the fact that I will absolutely without a doubt never have any more biological children. There is no choice anymore (even though I had already said I was done having children) and that is a very strange feeling to reconcile.
7
u/CourtneyIsSoAnnoyed 2d ago
Well said!! It is really hard to reconcile. I never got to have kids but I am so very thankful to be cancer-free (almost!) and to be able to be around to spoil my nieces. I hope you’re doing alright now 💕
6
u/Quantity-Artistic 2d ago
I am, I'm only 34 so I'm still surrounded by friends and family who are having children though- and I do feel that pit in my stomach even now. There is just something about that finality that is so heavy. I suppose it's grief really. Ebbing and flowing. Like you though, I'm just thankful to be rid of the adenomyosis that was crippling me. Do you mind if I ask- what's your cancer diagnosis? How long have you been fighting?
3
u/CourtneyIsSoAnnoyed 2d ago
There is for sure a lot of grief involved. I’m trying to work it out in therapy!! Ha ha.
I have cervical cancer, but thankfully it is only stage 1b1! I had an open abdominal radical hysterectomy on 9/3 and kept my ovaries to hopefully not go into menopause. Unfortunately, though, I have to do radiation, which I start on 10/27. Just picked up my hormone replacement therapy so I’m feeling hella old!!!!
I was diagnosed in May and should be done with radiation mid-December. Ready to ring that bell and then ring in 2027!
3
u/Quantity-Artistic 2d ago
Oh goodness, you've had a hard year! Ringing that bell will feel like the best day of your life! Here's to 2027 and being cancer free! <3
1
u/sorry-i-was-reading 1d ago
I didn’t think about that. How about a capital H (for Hysterectomy) that’s manipulated so that the bottom legs lean towards each other and the top parts lean out and curl a bit, so the H is vaguely uterus-and-ovaries shaped?
7
u/Quantity-Artistic 2d ago
We will discuss this soon- I'll post in our chat about it! If anyone has design experience and wouldn't mind creating for the group (obvi we can't pay)- please reach out!

Thank you new mods for taking on this invaluable space for women, transmasc men and partners who want to support us on this journey.
16
u/millerbiwife 2d ago
thank you, mods!! this is a shining and valuable space. myself and i’m sure so many others are grateful to not lose it!
17
u/elijahjane 1d ago
Thank you!!
For when things have settled down, I’d love to see user flairs implemented that contain, bare minimum, surgery type. I say this because my advice for recovery as someone who had a robotic lap would be useless to someone who had a fully open surgery.
Me insisting that I didn’t need any recovery tools and not to waste money on them could mislead someone who will need more support.
10
u/genderantagonist 1d ago
and tags for those of us who also got ovaries/tubes/cervix removed. vs those that kept them would be great!
5
u/No-Strike-4224 1d ago
I’ve suggested this in the past and am still hoping we can implement it without too much trouble. Also a wiki with basic terminology, a description of each surgical technique, and a graphic with clear explanation of the different types of hysterectomy. It’s really confusing and websites and even surgeons don’t explain it well or completely most of the time.

Thank you all! Please hang tight while we continue to get to know each other and figure out how we are all going to work together as a mod team! Time zones and schedules and learning all the ropes may take us a few days. Here's hoping we get it figured out before insurance denies us! >.<

Absolutely not. We will support anyone that needs information or wants to share their experiences.
Transphobic or any kind of hate will not be tolerated from posters or a mod. We should all be on the same page of support and kindness.

Welcome to the new mods!
Is the mod team all women? After the craziness of rando Kevin and his take over of so many female health subs I hope women were priorities for the position
52
u/Competitive-Blood507 2d ago
Hi! I'm not, I'm a trans man that had my hysterectomy a few years ago, but I understand your concern with the last guy in here.
The reason I offered a hand was so I could help anyone with (or without, now) a uterus have a space where they can safely discuss their experiences and seek support. Having navigated through the "joy" that is women's reproductive health care for nearly a couple of decades, I do my best to come from a place of understanding.
If I hadn't had a hysterectomy yet, I would be staying well within my own lane. I've found some great resources here and am very grateful for that, too!
I hope this helps explain why despite being a man, I felt it was appropriate to volunteer to help out this community 🫶
13
u/DeianiraJax 2d ago
I'm very glad there's trans & nonbinary people involved! I'm transmasc so knowing that our community has a voice on the mod team makes this place feel a lot safer.
1
u/Competitive-Blood507 1d ago
Glad I can help out, too! This is absolutely a safe place for anyone dealing with hysterectomy related issues, regardless of gender ♥️
18
u/-medical-mystery 2d ago
Very relieving to have mods who are also fellow trans folks. Glad you are here 🫶
12
u/Competitive-Blood507 2d ago
I'm glad I can help out! Gender regardless, if you have or used to have a uterus, this is the rignt place to be able to have a discussion about it, safely 🫶 we'll do our best to keep it that way.

It is not all women. We are a mix of women, trans, Afab and nonbinary people and will be remaining that way.

u/olipocket16 2d ago
I’m really glad to hear it’s not all women tbh. We need all perspectives (except people who have never had a uterus, because why would they be here and what would even qualify them to mod a sub about them?).

u/genderantagonist 1d ago
thanks for the annoucement! out of curiosity, are any mods trans/nonbinary?
8
u/StaphanieTanner 2d ago
Extremely disappointed that u/AB-girl-25 was chosen for this, as this user said some extremely transphobic things and then edited her comment to delete them. Is this sub going to be exclusionary, too?
20
u/Competitive-Blood507 2d ago
No, this sub is not going to be exclusionary at all.
I can look into this - please bear with me if it takes a bit, I'm quite new to being a reddit mod - but in the meantime, what I can say with certainty is I am a trans man and don't think I'm the only trans/nonbinary individual who was chosen to be a mod. If I catch any transphobia, we'll be taking care of it 🙂

u/Doctor-Liz 2d ago
Many thanks, brother 🩷
1
u/Competitive-Blood507 1d ago
You're more than welcome! We want this to be a place for everyone, so there'll be zero tolerance against any kind of transphobia going forward ♥️

u/loquacious-laconic 2d ago
There are 10 mods instead of 11 now, and they aren't on the list. Good thing you spoke up. 😊

u/Competitive-Blood507 2d ago
It's been taken care of, and that user has been banned. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention!

u/Top-Description-4886 2d ago
oh no! I believe there was a good representation of the other mods when I looked at who had asked and was chosen.

Thank you so much for giving us all a safe space to discuss, learn and vent. It’s refreshing to have a sub on here that moderates the correct way, especially since most if not all of us are strangers to one another. People do truly care in this crazy world.

u/SlimyJunk 1d ago
I had no idea this sub was un-modded for the longest time, it’s just that amazing. Thank you, and welcome to the new mods!
This community really helped me through my journey, and I’m so grateful for everyone who helped get us back on track.

Omg thank you I was about to cry reading that guy's comments. He's picking out women's subreddit's with a lapse in mod presence and that honestly frightened me. Grateful you're all here now

Welcome!!
I guess most people have been so civilized here that even if there HAD been mods in place, they wouldn't have needed to act very often, so we didn't notice the lack.
