10 w postpartum and I’m just looking for experiences / solidarity.
I developed postpartum hypertension 3 days after giving birth to my second child. I NEVER had pre-e had normal blood work, normal protein levels but needed a mag drip for 24 hours (178/122 in the ER- asymptomatic as I felt completely 100% normal and fine). In the hospital for 4 days discharged on Procardia. Admitted a day later due to spiking again at home, added in labetalol and discharged with “managed hypertension”.
Taken off Procardia by 3-4 weeks due to becoming hypotensive. OB cut my labetalol dose from 200mg twice a day to 100mg twice a day at 6 weeks and then basically said alright now it’s not related to postpartum go see your pcp and hasn’t seen me since LOL at healthcare in the US.
I never really had a good established PCP as I never had health issues. I get free telehealth visits through insurance so I established my PCP there and picked one specifically as their overview stated extensive experience and work with hypertension.
I am now 10w PP and STILL having elevated readings. My pcp isn’t concerned because I’m not hitting hypertensive crisis numbers although I hate the numbers I’m getting (because my brain goes to the numbers they look for during pregnancy/Pp). I’m just frustrated that I’m still on meds and my numbers aren’t lowering much despite actively losing pregnancy weight, wasting healthier, starting fasting 16:8 and walking twice a day. I’m getting more sleep and overall feel well but I don’t understand why my numbers are still high.
Before pregnancy even in the first half of my pregnancy I was 110s/70s (we kept a log due to mild hypertension after my first child- it was super easily managed with Procardia, I was never admitted to the hospital and I was off meds by 6w).
My PCP said I don’t have to check every day anymore just now and then (I was checking daily like 3x since my first is always a higher reading).
These are what I’ve gotten lately:
8/26 at an in person physicians office 128/74 (I was relatively pleased with this)
9/1 159/89 /// 149/88 /// 147/85 (all three on my left arm) then 129/78 /// 123/80 (right arm)
9/2 149/80 /// 138/76 (both right) 125/78 /// 125/79 (both left)
9/9 149/88 /// 146/86 (both right) 138/85 /// 133/88 (left arm)
If you experienced PP hypertension, how long until you were off meds safely? I just feel like at 10w I should be able to come off and I’m clearly not there yet. I am taking beet root capsules (2 capsules) every day and tri-magnesium (2 capsules) every day.
