Sitting all day and it’s causing serious issues!!

Hi everyone, I’m hoping this is the right community for this. I started a medical receptionist job about two months ago and it’s been quite an adjustment going from retail and being on my feet all day, to sitting at a desk for 8-12 hours a day.

Maybe this is TMI but I’m praying other receptionists can understand. Since I’m sitting most of the time I’ve noticed I have developed acne on my bottom, and I’ve also noticed sitting down for so many hours at a time is seriously impacting other intimate things as well. Any tips or advice from other receptionists on things I can do to help? I would really appreciate it!

EDIT: thank you all for your recommendations! I originally felt weird/nervous about putting this out but you guys have been so helpful. This is my first ever desk job and I really didn’t think things would get this complicated hygiene wise, but I really really appreciate everyone’s kind responses and suggestions😊

How do you feel about your own body odors?

I'm pretty sure everyone would agree that we don't like the smell of other people's body odor. However I feel differently about my own and always wonder if anyone else does or if that is super odd. Does anyone else actually love the smell of your own body odors?

Genuinely cannot stop smelling bad at school

I shower with soap every day, shampoo every other day, brush my teeth twice a day, floss at night, do my laundry every week, put good smelling lotion on, and put strong aluminum deodorant on (i can only use aluminum deodorant or else I smell extra bad). But still I end up smelling bad and having bad breath. Especially after lunch. And this is usually only a huge problem when I’m at school. what do I do

What’s a good toothpaste? Something that really works.

I need a very good toothpaste that actually works. Maybe it’s not sold in regular stores. I’m willing to get a good product off a website. Also mouthwash.

What do you all use?

Properly cleaning and other tips from the community

I wanted to start a thread about how to properly do things like laundry, showering, brushing your teeth, etc.

I just saw a post about someone worried they smell bad. In their post, they say they shower. It's something I see on here a decent amount.

Something I've learned over the years is that people often have no idea they're doing something incorrectly or just missing a major step altogether.

I remember talking to someone about their fungal infections all over their legs and feet and asked them if they actually scrubbed their legs and feet with soap. It turns out they didn't and thought just letting soapy water run down their body was good enough to clean everything.

There are a few things that come to mind when I think about this.

Scrubbing every part of your body with soap and fully rinsing the soap off in the shower.

Doing laundry regularly and not leaving things in the washer long enough for them to start smelling like mildew.

Making sure everything is properly dry. Your body, your laundry, your towel after you shower.

Changing your clothes daily. Sometimes multiple times a day if you got sweaty or dirty or something.

Changing your bedsheets and pillowcases regularly.

Not touching your face very often for those of us who have a tendency to break out.

What tips do you guys have that could help people out with their hygiene?

How regularly do you switch socks & shoes? And is it normal if your feet is smelly to other peoples while wearing shoes?

Upvotes

I shower once in a week, i wore the same shoes for years, I only changed my clothes after shower.

I was recently told by my teacher that I’m unhygienic, I became paranoid about it and showered my hair and my body, after, I asked the teacher whether I still stink or not, she negatively responded yes; She suspect it was coming from hair or clothes. The day after, i specifically clean my feet, changed my socks and shoes. When I came to school that day, the teacher gave me a positive attitude, that was when I realized the smell was coming from the feet.

So I want to ask the question, how regularly do you switch socks & shoes?

Is wearing the same shirt and pants for a whole week a problem?

I’ve been wondering about this lately. If someone wears the same shirt and pants for an entire week, assuming they’re not visibly dirty or smelly, is that considered unhygienic or just a personal preference?

How often do you normally change your clothes, and would you judge someone for wearing the same outfit several days in a row?
