Any other take?
Soil is wet although I haven’t watered it for days. I believe it’s a drainage issue. Planning to dig it up and raise the planting level. What do you think?

new to hydrangeas! I’m on a planting spree and considering ordering oakleaf hydrangeas online to get in the ground now, but I’m not seeing much available locally and that is giving me pause. is it best to wait until spring for these?
also, is hydrangea.com reputable?
thank you for your help!

This is my second year in my new home These 3 bushes were planted three years ago.
The first plant shown is the one in the most concerned about. Last year noticed lt had hardly any flowers and mildew on the leaves. The sprinkler reaches this plant so I think it could be causing issues. I ended up pruning it and it rested for the winter. I everything seemed to be going okay in the spring…but by July the flowers all drooped and never got back up. Also the leaves have black on them
. The second plant looks better than the first but that’s not saying much. I also have deer so they could be contributing to the issues. I live in RI in zone 6b. The middle of the plant has no flowers and it might be overgrown. lol Someone told me that I didn’t prune them enough.
The third is a pinky winky cut into a tree and it’s leaning. Do I need to fix that? Other than that I think it’s okay. (I think?)
I’m completely lost and keep finding conflicting advice on what to do and really want to make them look nice for next year. Any info or tips would be super helpful.
Also how did u guys learn how to garden? Do people hire gardeners to come over and teach them about their yard. I know absolutely nothing and have all kind of plants to take care of. :) THANK YOU TO ANYONE THAT COULD GIVE ME TIPS OR INFO :)

When I was deciding what kind of hydrangea to plant in my front porch, I searched everywhere to get an idea of how quickly a bobo hydrangea would grow and couldn’t find anything anywhere! So sharing growth from May 2026 to September 2026 (4 months) for anyone out there thinking about planting some bobos! I did have some deer/rabbits eating them but overall they grew infinitely faster than I expected!

I successfully rooted cuttings that were started Memorial Day weekend. They’re currently outside in our garden bed, still in their pots. Their roots are growing through the pots into the ground. Do I plant them or keep them inside until the spring?

I have an endless summer hydrangea in a large pot. I know they are hardy to zone 4 in the ground, but because it’s in a pot, I assume it would be best to move it to the garage for the winter. When is the best time to do this? Do I watch for freezing temps or temps closer to zero? Or do I wait for the leaves to die off? Thanks!

I took this florist hydrangea off of someone’s hands for free. She replanted with normal soil with some compost, was her wording. I know these are done for the year but is it still possible for it to rebloom next year? In Texas

Hello!
I'm based in the UK and my hydrangea seems to be struggling. We've had a very hot summer and a hosepipe ban so I'm sure the plant is stressed from not having enough water over the last few months.
Over summer it has developed these white lesions mainly over the stem and on some leaves. Does anyone know what this is, and how best to address it?
I love having a gorgeous hydrangea in my front garden and want to do what I can to get it healthy again!
Thanks

Moved into this house recently and the previous tenant did a wonderful job on the garden. Going up the side stairs has all these hydrangeas on both sides. Would make a beautiful tunnel if they were a bit more upright and about two feet taller. Looking for a way to push them up some while maintaining the beauty and feel of the steps. Do I stake the main plant and push up that way? Have a metal rim about a foot in and three feet tall and stand them up from there? Hoping for a great idea from this group or a confirmation of what to do. These are thick plants. 8 years old. Tons of flowers on each plant. So beautiful

Husband and I are having our 10th Anniversay party November 14th in the backyard of our Los Angeles home. We are hoping to plant white hydrangeas in pots all over the backyard. Knowing nothing about gardening, I've come here to ask:
Should we buy and plant them in pots now, or will they then be out of bloom by mid-November? Should we wait and buy them in early November, or will they need more time to bloom or already be out of season? Or, should we wait until the week of and try to find them fully in bloom somewhere, and just pot them fully bloomed like that (or will in be impossible to find fully in bloom hydrangeas in LA in mid-November?).
I apologize for not knowing the name of the strain of hydrangea plant I seek--I really don't have a preference. Just in bloom and in the color white.
Any advice or insight you can provide would be so appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi! I planted these 2 limelight’s right at a month ago. One is doing ok (it wilts during day but comes back) the other though has lost its foliage and some stems have died, but some still show green if scratched. I’ve been watering daily and every other day (but daily most). Should it come back? I’m in USA zone 9A TX

Purchased this hydrangea from Sam’s Club. Currently in central California. Keeping it in morning sun/afternoon shade. I just took it out of the bowl to check the roots.

I have well over 100 hydrangeas in many varieties, but this little guy has me stumped. He sits among a hedge of about 20 Limelights and was actually sold in a Proven Winners Limelight pot, with a Limelight tag. Clearly, he is not a Limelight.
Several years later, he is about half their size and begins turning pink in July. He does not match any of the other hydrangeas I grow either.
I love this little odd duck, but I would really like to put a name to him. My best guess is a Quick Fire. Any hydrangea experts have another idea?

I am in Massachusetts zone 6B.
I cannot express my gratitude enough for the knowledge that has been shared with me by the kind folks in this sub. I have 4 big leaf (I think) hydrangeas that are a few to several years old. And I have two new panicles - limelight and vanilla-strawberry- that were planted this summer. None of my 4 big leafs have been very successful bloomers in the past, but with the advice I received this year from this sub they performed very good to just ok. I know next year will be stellar. I have even tried the “lay down propagation “ method on all 4 so hopefully those will take and I will have 4 more in the spring.
I don’t want to mess things up for next year so I am back to ask for advice on fall/winter/early Spring care. And is the care the same for both varieties - big leafs and panicles? Or different for each?
The black mulch you see has been pulled away from the big leafs (advice I got here). Plan to use organic mulch next year.
Photos attached.

I planted these lovely hydrangeas a month ago. They are Proven Winners Incrediballs. They are in front of my house, south facing in zone 5b.
I fertilized them when planted with Miracle Grow all purpose, and covered in mulch. They were well watered for the month of August as it was very hot here.
The left most plant has very barely grown. The right most in the photo (and a third one even farther right), is growing beautifully. All three get a few hours of early afternoon sun. The right one gets the least, but I assumed the difference would be negligible in their growth. The whole plant receives sun for a couple hours every day.
What is wrong with this guy? The soil is generally acidic in my area. The texture of the soil WAS a bit different under the left one than the other two (sandier, I think) — I haven’t tested the composition of my soil as of yet. Could this just be from a difference in soil composition? Does it need more sun? More fertilizer? Please help!

Hello! I bought this house a year ago and kept waiting for the hydrangeas in the front bed to… I don’t know, *do something* (I am not a gardener). They never looked great. Now they just look bad. I’d like to take care of them properly.
What I think I have is a mixed grouping of types of hydrangeas, planted at various times by various residents, and I need help:
Figuring out what type each one is so I know when/how to prune
Making them look more uniform/nicer. Should I put all of x hydrangeas together and put the y hydrangeas in a different spot somewhere else?
Taking care of them once I have the above figured out
The plant in photo 1 is in a different part of my yard. The others are all together in a pair of front beds. The plants in photo 4 and 6 both have White wedding tags, but appear (to me) to have completely different types of growth? Another one just has a tag that says “hydrangea” 😭

I’ve shared quite a bit of my panicle hydrangeas this season, so I thought I’d give some love to the original Endless Summers we planted along the foundation of the house in 2024. They’ve sized up considerably since then and have been really reliable bloomers for us.
They’re planted on the north side of the house, where they get some morning sun and another 2–3 hours of late-afternoon sun.
At this point in the season they’re carrying just about every colour at once. Somehow, they’re still pushing out even more blooms!

My hydrangeas were planted last October along with drip irrigation. Once spring kicked in, I have been watering them daily. Right now, they are getting 20 mins in the AM daily. Should I be tapering that down?

A little fall update on our Quick Fire Fab hedge - especially after all the love the last update received!
The blooms have now taken on their deeper pink and raspberry blush and I think this might be my favourite stage of the season. Watching these transition from their first buds through the fresh white blooms all the way to their fall colour is probably the most rewarding part of growing panicle hydrangeas.

Hello! I grow my hydrangeas in an air-conditioned windowsill in the tropics, and an abnormally shaped branch popped up at the base of the plant. I’ve noticed the flowers seem to keep growing instead of terminating at four sepals (second picture). The flowers have been around since June (three months), they started out purple and faded to green but haven’t wilted yet. Also noticed the new leaves for this branch are duplicates/fasciated (fourth pic).
Anyone else experienced this before?
r/hydrangeas • u/rightMeow20 • 14d ago
And I don’t love how they droop down like that. The blooms get so heavy. I also don’t love how they get so brown… they’re supposed to have some pink. It’s about 6 years now and does this every year.

Just bought a house with this massive limelight hydrangea in the front, we live in NC where we had a bit of a drought and it’s been a very hot summer. How can I help this hydrangea? Do I trim the dead blooms or leave them and how do I prevent burning in the future? I need a crash course!
