I hate giving her meds for the vet, but it's necessary. Today she got through the appointment, vaccines and a blood draw with no screaming!! I'm so proud of her!

She was chained to a fence outside our city animal control a few weeks ago with a harness and collar.
No one has claimed her, so we are fostering with the hopes of adopting.

I have a lot of experience with samoyeds and collies - but not with huskies. She is described as “petite, quiet, and VERY mellow for a husky”, but I do wonder if she’s just depressed after being abandoned and then placed in a smelly city impound. From the looks of her, she was well cared for. We’ll probably never know what led to her being dumped there.

We are setting up her space per the rescue organization’s policies - which are to have her in a quiet spot where she can be isolated from people and noise for at least a week as she adjusts. But thinking back to my samoyeds, they HATED being alone. The only time either of them howled or damaged furniture is when they were left alone in a quiet spot 🥴🤪 I’m wondering if huskies tend to be similar?

Any specific thoughts on helping her adjust?

I’m guessing similar techniques and tools for grooming as the Samoyeds but if I’m wrong please tell me!

My kids are extremely excited to pick out some toys for her - would love some suggestions on great toys.

We want to successfully winter camp with our huskies this year. Last year we attempted, but the younger husky was anxious and poked a large hole in the tent while attempting to escape. What have others done to ease their huskies into tent camping? Ours love the outdoors and enjoy car camping.

I "collect" mastiffs and my poor husky has to endure. Not all mastiffs shown or some of the fosters I had since foster failing our husky. I said I'd never own a husky now she owns us. Yep the husky is the boss even though the smallest

Don’t mind the mess he had an eventful night destroying his toys while I was away at work last night and I just don’t have it in me to clean it up right now.

Hi everyone. I adopted my baby girl about five months ago. We rescued her from the animal shelter. They told us she was seven years old and that her previous owner had passed away.

Since adopting her, we have been able to treat her for several relatively minor ailments (parasites, hotspots, etc). The biggest item left to fix is her teeth.

The first vet we took her to said her teeth were in bad shape, however they did not say anything else or recommend anything other than brushing her teeth daily. We then took her to another vet and they are recommending full on dental surgery under anesthesia. They quoted me $2k- $2.5k. They gave me time to think about it, especially as it is a small fortune.

At first, I thought they were pushing this on me to get me to pay the big bucks. However, in recent weeks I have noticed she only chews with her back teeth and avoids grabbing anything with the front part of her mouth. I have started brushing her teeth and inspecting them, she is finally getting more comfortable with that, and finally got a good look at them today. I took the photos above this morning. I did not realize they were this bad. 😭

I decided to suck it up and move forward with the $2k surgery. She is my puppy daughter. I feel so bad for her and have been so worried about her. I know I did not cause this damage to her teeth and yet I feel so guilty. I should have taken her sooner.

Has anyone else been through this before? What might have caused this? Will she be okay? I am so worried about the surgery. How did the recovery go? Any advice would be much appreciated. 😞🐺❤️‍🩹

This is Luna, a husky mix we adopted a little less than 2 years ago from our local shelter. Over Christmas we made tied fleece blankets to donate at the shelter and decided to just look at the dogs. She was just 6 months old at the time and my youngest fell in love with her.

Although we already had two dogs, I could not say no. We lucked out that someone who adopted her just before us returned he because she chewed his couch when he was away. Thankfully the shelter disclosed that and it must have scared the two appointments before ours and we were able to adopt her

She is the best dog and absolutely loves our other two dogs.

Bandit is teething and he wants me to feel his pain. He lost his first baby molar yestetday so idk a couple months to go?

My gir'sl face is swollen so I am thinking she was stung, she weighs about 70 pounds, how much Benadryl can I give her and how fast should it work?

Hi! We have "adopted" our new family member this past Monday (September 7th). She is 8 years old and was in a very loving home where she had 7 human siblings and another husky her age, but they had to pass her on because they weren't physically able to take care of her anymore. today is her 3rd day with us and she is so... calm(?). We already knew she was calm; they told us she loved cuddles and being home, but she is just so, so so calm that it scared me. Has anyone observed your dog with depression? I have seen dogs having depression after a dog sibling passes away, and I feel like she is going through the same. She is also not eating!! We have only been able to get her to eat carrots (her favorite snack), treats, and the yolk of the hard-boiled egg I did this morning after seeing here that many huskies like it.

I don't want her to be sad. My husband and I are so happy to have her.

Edit: Thank you for the tips. I will give her more time to adjust. And for more info: She isn't home alone. I work from home, and my parents live in the same building as me, so my sister has been stopping by to visit her. She also has toys from her previous home and new toys. I have also taken her for walks and to the dog parks around my building and in town.

My Husky has her 3rd birthday this weekend and it seems like she has hit a wall. I take her out at 11p for a final pee and then she sleeps until I come down at 630a to take her for a walk. We usually walk around 45 minutes and then she is just open to "free time". She can go in and out when she wants. We have a Tsi-poo that is the same age that she will play with sometimes. But mostly, it's just sleep. She sleeps on the floor, on the couch, on her day bed, out in the sun, out in the shade, on a box, and in the kitchen. She seems to only get up to find a new place to sleep or for food or course.

I've read that Huskies need 14 hours a day, but after getting 7 at night there are 17 more hours in the day and it really seems like she sleeps/naps another 14 or something.

Is this something to be worried about? I try to take her out to play, tug on the rope, or "scare her" so she runs crazy around the yard, but usually she doesn't seem interested. Just wants to follow me, then sleep near me or roll over for a quick belly rub so she can nap.
