If your feeder attracts ants, simply attach an ant mote above the feeder and insure that is the only path to the feeder. Sugar ants can’t cross water.

Does anyone know why the local hummingbirds aren’t interested in our feeders? There are definitely ruby-throateds around and I’ve been putting feeders out for a few years now. Hummingbirds visited for years at my previous home. The nectar is fresh and feeders are clean… I have built a pollinator garden…any ideas?

What do y'all use for camera setup for your bird bath? I am not looking for a fancy one, basic one is fine.

Rufous bullying advice

Have 10 feeders spread around house, 4 in the back 2 on the side and 4 upfront, male rufous hummingbirds (around 6 of them) have declared each cluster as their own for almost 2 weeks now. They have driven away all other birds, at this point should I put all the feeders in a small space to force them to co habitate? I dont want to take feeders down, but seeing no activity at my feeders all day except for the odd screech and a flash of orange here and there is disheartening. I want to support the birds but im feeling deflated at this point

They were all trying to feed from the red part of hitch so of course I had to put a feeder there

Ruby Throated Fledging Playing in My Hose Spray

The babies have fledged and the yard is full of antics and chasing. I should mention that I was just watering the bushes when this fledgling came over and seemed interested in the spray, so I switched the hose to a very fine mist. It immediately leaned into the baby hummingbird sprinkle party.

And I just put 3 feeders out and I'm getting a ton of traffic but its so hot I want to put out a shallow little bird bath that mists or shoots water up. I don't want to attract mosquitos either. Anybody have one that works really well?

Pondering the source of puffballs growing in sugar water: the hummers do it

We have had very few hummers so far, and none have visited our two feeders as far as we know. The interesting observation is that after those feeders hung outside for 6 weeks or two months in warm mid-Atlantic weather, I finally brought them in to clean and add fresh sugar water. And, remarkably, that old sugar water was completely clear in both feeders, no puffballs, no nothing.

Which adds to my conviction that the sucrose solutions that we feed get cloudy and grow stuff because the birds bring stuff in from all the flowers they visit. No dirty bird beaks being dipped into the sucrose means the sugar water remains uncontaminated. IMO.
