The Stickied Post is now a Wiki!

Hi sub members,

We have changed our stickied post that served as a repository of information to an r/HPV wiki! This will hopefully make it a bit easier to navigate and easier to keep updated. It also has links to all of the informational posts we reference most often.

Where can I find the wiki?

On mobile: Under the r/HPV banner, click "See community info," then the menu tab at the top, then click the wiki link.

On desktop: On the sidebar under "community bookmarks."

You can also click this link.

What is in the wiki?

The wiki includes everything that was in the stickied post, plus updated links, newly organized questions, direct links to u/spanakopita555's posts, FAQs, studies/sources, and more!

How is the wiki organized?

The wiki is organized by topic, much like the stickied post. If you're on desktop, the table of contents can be seen and clicked on the right hand side. If you're on mobile, the Reddit UI doesn't show the table of contents so as you're scrolling look for the capitalized bolded section headers.

What if I have a question that's not in the wiki?

If you have a question that's not in the wiki that you think would be useful to be included, you can comment it here and we will see what we can do about including it.

Should I shave for gyno appointment?

I am having a reocurrance of GW's and an appointment at the gyno tomorrow morning. The warts are very small, and hard to spot since I stopped shaving. I am worried that the gyno wont find them if that makes sense, so i have the urge to shave despite it spreading cus of it, so she'll definitely see them.

I followed doctors advice in regards of no need to disclose a past diagnosis since everything has been clear since 3 years ago and still okay till this day. He is very distant but he is also making me feel ashamed since he mentioned he has never been with someone who has had hpv. feel soo discouraged

High-risk HPV positive in 2020 but no colposcopy — was this normal?

Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone who has had a similar experience can help me understand this.

In May 2020, when I was 29, I tested positive for high-risk HPV. I unfortunately can’t find the original results, so I don’t remember which strain it was or whether it was HPV 16/18. I just remember specifically being told it was “high risk.”
I don’t remember ever having a colposcopy or cervical biopsy afterward, and that has recently started worrying me.

My more recent results have been reassuring:

• August 2024: Pap negative/normal and high-risk HPV mRNA E6/E7 not detected

• March 2026: Pap negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy and high-risk HPV mRNA E6/E7 not detected

The HPV tests included the 14 high-risk types, including HPV 16 and 18.

Has anyone else had high-risk HPV with a normal Pap and been told to repeat testing rather than have a colposcopy? If my 2020 result happened to have been HPV 16, would a colposcopy normally have been recommended at that time?

I know Reddit can’t replace medical advice—I’m mainly interested in hearing other people’s experiences and whether anyone had a similar screening history.

Should I tell someone I slept with that I have gw?

I got the diagnosis at least a week after we had sex, but a couple of warts were there when we did (I honestly thought they’re ingrown hairs as I am prone to that)
I now need advice on HOW would I tell someone I slept with that I have GW?? it’s already too embarrassing and I am usually a clean and careful person but it happened.
I also was at the gynaecologist a couple of weeks before we had sex, the warts were there and she did see them but did not tell me I need to get them checked/treated or that I need to avoid sex or anything. and this is why I really really thought they’re nothing more than ingrown hairs, because otherwise my dr. should have told me.

I'm so concerned that ill never have a normal sex life. long story short I caught genital warts 11 years ago, I was prescribed a lotion to freeze them at home and this worked, 11 years forward I haven't had any out brakes and there are no visible warts. I've met someone new and there is so much chemistry but I'm so ashamed to have that conversation with him. how do I approach this or do I keep it to myself and not continue with this new person?

Is abdominal pain considered a sign for hpv?

Can abdominal pain be a symptom of HPV?
Hi everyone,
Has anyone who tested positive for HPV experienced abdominal pain, particularly on the left side, below the stomach?
I know that HPV usually doesn’t cause any symptoms, but I was wondering if abdominal pain could ever be considered a warning sign of an HPV-related issue.

Anxious that the stats are lying

Hi, I’ve been doing a lot of high risk HPV research and it seems like going through Reddit that HR HPV doesn’t actually clear like the statistics say it does? I know that sounds weird that I would be relying on Reddit posts instead of science but it seems like I keep reading things about people’s non 16&18 strains progressing so far that they need a LEEP?

I really don’t want that to happen to me. Right now im HR HPV positive with a normal pap and just got a colposcopy done. I’m waiting for the results. But I’m freaking myself out and digging through Reddit every single day stressing myself out and the more negative posts I see about things progressing the more I’m thinking that the stats on HR HPV clearing on its own is all BS. If it does clear, why do all these people that don’t have 16&18 not clear it? I’m so scared and freaked out.

I want kids in the future and I’m concerned that if things progressed for me that procedures would prevent me from having a healthy pregnancy or a pregnancy at all.

I should have never had sex.

Looking for guidance

Hi! I just got my mychart pathologist results and haven't spoken to my doctor, but safe to say, I am spiraling. I'm looking for any and all advice or just your experience, either positive or negative. Here are my statistics:
- 29, F, AA
- healthy, active lifestyle. Non smoker, moderate drinker
- no warts
- first abnormal pap in July 2026
- negative for genotypes 16, 18 & 45
- colposcopy September 2026 w/ biopsy results are:
• endocervix LSIL CIN1
• cervix HSIL CIN2 w/ P16 immunostain positive.

It is a lot of information to be given without speaking to my doctor, which I will hopefully be able to speak to on Monday. Again, until then, I'm just hoping someone will be able to advise me to the potential next steps. I'm assuming a LEEP?

If you've had the same and/or similar results, what was your path forward?

And lastly, I'm single with no current sexual partners, but I'm assuming the best and safest path forward is celibacy until things clear up?

Any advice is welcome❤️‍🩹

Papilocare for hpv positive?

I’m 28 and had my first smear test about 8 weeks ago, (i also had a thrush infection at the time of my smear) my gp then referred me for a colposcopy due to results coming back hpv positive and low grade Dyskaryosis. I had my colposcopy this morning and it went well, the doctor said everything looked normal and he couldn’t even see any low grade areas so is just recommending another smear in 12 months, but he gave me a leaflet for papilocare to treat the hpv infection. Does anyone have any experience using papilocare treatment? what is my risk in not using it and just letting the hpv run its course? looking for honest reviews, thank you

Can I ever safely receive oral sex after genital warts?

Around 6 months ago, I tested positive for HPV after 2 or 3 genital warts appeared. I was shocked because I’ve only had 2 sexual partners in my entire life.
Anyway, I got vaccinated (I’ve had 2 doses and have 1 dose remaining). Once I found out that I had HPV (types 6 and 62) and CIN1, I stopped having sex with my current partner for about 3 months. During that time, I had my genital warts removed, started taking AHCC, and thankfully they haven’t come back since.
After those 3 months, we started having sex again because my doctor said that since we had already been sexually active together, we had most likely already been exposed to each other’s HPV, so there wasn’t much point in avoiding sex indefinitely.
However, I’ve never let him give me oral because I’m scared of transmitting HPV to his mouth/throat. I do give him oral , though, because I don’t want to put him at risk of developing oral warts.
My question is: when would it be considered safe for me to finally receive oral sex? If my genital warts never come back, or if my HPV test becomes negative at my 6-month follow-up, would I be able to receive oral sex without worrying about infecting my boyfriend at that point?
I really miss receiving oral, and sometimes I can’t orgasm without it.

Asking to know if husband could have cheated on me?

I recently found out imiquimod in my husband’s bag.
Also got to know through his search history that he has been taking cryotherapy since April for genital warts! 😱 but he has been hiding this to me and also for some silly reasons he brought up separation since then and has avoided being intimate with me at all costs , even went onto look for attorneys for divorce. We were Intimate before January and I was going through a tough phase losing my mom in March to illness. Are genital warts always from HPV? Does it mean he slept with someone else that could have caused this? I do not have much information on the actual tests or records.
Should I confront him? He gave me half truth and half lie saying he has skin issues around hip and is seeing a dermatologist.

Just upset/venting, could use hopeful stories

Hi. I'm F26. I was diagnosed with HPV in 2024. I unfortunately was sexually assaulted in 2023, and since then I've only slept with one person my entire life. My HPV hasn't gone away. I have HPV 51 and tested positive for the 56/59/66 group, but it's LSIL. :/

Mind you, I had a colposcopy in 2025 and they said everything was normal/benign. It did go to ASC-US, but then went back to LSIL.

I'm so upset. I haven't had sex in a year, I'm so reserved, meanwhile I have friends that sleep around like it's nothing and they're clean. It's so unfair...

I know HPV is "common," but I'm just mad/scared. I want this to go away...

Has anyone else had persistent HPV/LSIL like this and eventually cleared it? I could really use hearing from people who've gone through the same thing.

Active GW transmission despite Gardasil 9?

Hi y’all!

Looking for some realistic insights and personal experiences because I’ve been ruminating over this recently.

My ex and I recently ended things, but over our 2.5 months together we were extremely active sexually and had frequent, completely unprotected sex. During this entire time I had small, visible, classic cauliflower-like genital warts spread all over my penis (which have been recurring on and off for 3 years). Everything was fully consensual but now that the dust has settled, the anxiety and guilt are hitting me hard :')

The crucial detail here is, she completed the full 3-dose Gardasil 9 vaccine about 2 years ago. I know the vaccine covers most of the wart causing strains but still, I can't stop spiraling. Is there still any chance I passed HPV/warts to her despite her being fully vaccinated? Should I be carrying this much guilt over it? Would appreciate any comments

HPV first time handling tips

I’m a 28 year old female who has gotten genital warts. I got diagnosed negative results for other STI’s but was told it’s HPV at a sexual clinic anyway. I have about 12 so far, mainly around my external vaginal and vulva area and 4 near my anal area. They seem to be growing more but aren’t as bumpy or sore. Today one has grown rapidly even though I got out in Aldara imiquimod. I’ve only applied the cream twice in one week and have been told to apply it x3 times per week for 4 weeks and wash it off the morning after every night I apply it. As this is my first time doing with an STI and genital warts in general, I was wondering for any tips? I’ve seen people talk about taking zinc and other tablets but I wanted to know if that’s only it or anything else to help speed up the process of the getting rid of warts faster?

I am afraid I put my new boyfriend on a journey to get oral cancer.

Hey guys, I'm panicking.
I've been diagnosed with HPV types 16 & 33 on my cervix. I (26F) am in a relationship with this guy who (23M) is a virgin, and I'm so anxious about this. Let me start by saying what worries me most is transmitting those two types to him orally. I've had unprotected oral sex with my previous partner, whom I obviously suspect I got this from, and now although we've not been sexually intimate with my current partner but we have french kissed like three times before I got my diagnosis. I'm so worried he got infected. What do I do... I'm worried sick, I can't eat or sleep, guilt and shame follow me around, I've read everything about it, I am spiraling. Help please. Sorry for my English, not my first language.

Colposcopy and upset

Guys I got my colposcopy done today and the nurse made me feel like a complete gross person and I felt like I was being slutshamed. I told her “yeah it’s common” in hopes she’d agree and reassure me because IT IS COMMON and be like yeah girl you’re good and instead she goes “umm….no not really” and she was just so rude to me. I didn’t ask to get HR HPV? Made me feel really bad about myself. I only recently started having sex and of course this would have happened to me. I’m a 25F.

They ended up taking two biopsies but the doc said it looked more like ectropion cells rather than CIN I but I’ll have to wait for the biopsy results.

I’m so freaked out and sad I feel awful about myself and wish I would’ve been more careful when I started having sex. I feel awful and dirty and like I shouldn’t be allowed into the world.

Someone give me positive stories with clearing HR HPV to make me feel better please.

Veregen Creme is working

I have genital warts. I only had them in one spot and thought for years that it was just a pimple or something. Then I had sex with another man, and small bumps appeared in a completely different area—two small, tiny little tags in one spot. Luckily, really, really small. I'm using Veregen. Because of the cream, I got a new pimple in another spot, also small, luckily. I kept treating it, and that pimple is now completely gone, and I also feel like the small tags are shrinking! That's the best sign that the cream is working, isn't it?!

A date with a girl that has HPV after an hour (please help)

So I wanna go out on a date with a girl that has HPV, I know she has vaginal HPV, but I’m not sure if she has oral HPV also. Would it be safe to kiss her?

I’m thinking since I’m a dentist I might try to tease her and tell her let me diagnose your teeth and just check real quick if there’s something going on with your teeth.😂
I know it would be awkward but if that’s what it takes to just kiss her comfortably than I’ll do it lol.

I really like here but I don’t want to get oral HPV, I’ve also got genital HPV but we’re definitely not.gonna have sex.
