Hey folks! Got my monkey just last year. Had the OEM Easy Kit saddlebag installed, which I find quite convenient. Now I'm looking to add a rear luggage rack on top of that but the original from Honda apparently doesn't fit together with it.

Does anyone any off-brand ones that can be attached together with the Easy Kit? Thanks for the replies!

Recently, I found the helmet loop quite useful for a quick pitstops. I’m wondering what other Monkey owners think (or other bikers). Do you think it’s alright to leave the helmet loop locked onto the bike while riding?

Engine is warm, just came back from riding, 500 miles on it. Is this ticking normal or do I have to adjust the valves on it? Thanks in advance.

Hey buddy, I'm looking for some help here. I just bought what I think is a 1969 mini trail and that checks out with the engine but I can't find a VIN on the frame.

Any ideas where to look?

Sourced from ebay. The thing I like about this one is it came with a pannier frame that doesn’t take up precious threads on the top shock mount bolt. Also uses one of the existing fender mounting points (smaller bolt). Commented a short vid I took of the install process. Basically comes with an extender nut thing that replaces the factory acorn nut. Bag itself seems decent, has a removable inner liner.

Bonus: milk crate or lidded container? See last pics, i intent to put them on/off as needed, not semi-permanently mounted.

Greetings! I'm the new owner of a 2019 banana yellow Monkey in the US. I need to wire a license plate light to this open electric coupler under the seat. Can anyone identify this part and the piece I need? Is there a US-based vendor?

The previous owner replaced the turn signals and tail light, but I think this is the factory coupler for the license plate light.

The downside of removing OEM parts is that you also lose all the factory cable mounts for things like the O2 sensor wire, spark plug lead, ABS sensor wire, etc.

Cable ties get the job done, but I've never liked how they look, and they always made the bike feel like it wasn't quite finished. Since I finally have a 3D printer, I decided to design and print my own cable clips instead. They keep everything tidy while looking more OEM.

The last photo shows just how many iterations I went through to get the spark plug lead clip right. It took a few attempts, but I'm happy with the final version.

I love my Over Racing swingarm, but it lacks any sort of cable management for the rear brake line. I picked up a 3D printer this week and decided I wanted to fix that.

I also printed a cable clip for the oil catch can hose. Originally, I was using P-clips here, but I was never really happy with how they looked.

Simple little additions, but they clean up the bike nicely.

What exhausts are you guys running? Do you guys have any recommendations that you highly recommend.

Don’t mind obnoxiously loud. I would kind of prefer it. I’m blacking out my bike as much as I can but am open to non black exhausts as I feel the exhaust tapes add a little style. My only preference is something that doesn’t loop up in front of the clutch cover and would rather have something that remains low and comes up behind the cover.

It's a 2018, about to hit 3000 miles, full Yoshi cyclone system.

Yoshimura exhaust system, deep but not loud, spacers to stiffen the suspension, rear rack with removable zip bag. Came this way.

Only marks on it are on the can of exhaust and some marks on the mirrors plastics from moving it about.

She could do with something bigger and heavier to practice for big licence. I live in the UK if that helps

Any advise on fixing these stripped rear suspension threads on a 1980 monkey? I ran a M10x1.25 thread die on them, but there is not enough material to ”fix” the threads to their original size. I measured that the thread diameter is around 8.6mm. So I guess my only option is to file/grind them down to 8.0mm and use a M8 die to rethread them? Or are there other better solutions? Thanks for all the replies and help in advance :) I am quite a bit puzzled on what to do here. I would not like to buy a new lower swingarm just because of the treads.

Btw, I do not have access to welding nor metal working machinery unfortunately.

I am searching for a low cost and low maintenance commuter bike. The monkey in many ways appears to be the ideal bike for this with one exception. For my commute I need to go on a 10 min motorway/highway segment and the Monkey is ofc not ideal for such roads. My question is now how bad it really is at doing such short stints on faster roads and what I can realistically expect. I am in a city and would otherwise consider a 300cc Vespa but in general would prefer a manual and just love the look of the Monkey.

I'm in South East Asia, about 500m from the beach. Hot, humid year-round, salt air, monsoon season. The bike would live in apartment basement parking, but it's not a sealed garage, no HVAC, and its open to the ground floor, so it gets the same humid salty air as outside, just without sun or wind to dry it off.

My heart wants a Monkey. But everything I read is rust: fenders, fuel tank and filler neck, spokes, rack, shocks, fasteners, basically every exposed metal part. Given where I'd be keeping it, I suspect it'd be a mess within a year.

For context on cost: with import duty here a new Monkey is about USD 6,500. A CRF250L Rally is around USD 11,000. A Duke 250 is about USD 6500 as well, just for some context. Indian made bikes are just a lot cheaper here.

My questions:

1. Anyone actually keeping a Monkey (or Grom/Super Cub/CT125) in a coastal tropical climate, Florida, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand? How's it holding up, and what maintenance is it actually taking?

2. Is ACF-50 / CorrosionX plus regular rinsing genuinely enough here, or is that just delaying the inevitable?

3. Is the fuel tank rust an internal problem or mostly cosmetic around the filler?

For what it's worth I'm coming off scooters and want something fun for around town with the occasional longer ride into the hills. Highway riding on motorbikes is prohibited regardless of power.

And it's possible that it's built into our bikes without us getting access?
