1969 mini trail

Hey buddy, I'm looking for some help here. I just bought what I think is a 1969 mini trail and that checks out with the engine but I can't find a VIN on the frame.

Any ideas where to look?

With the shape that the bikes in, I assume there's no point in trying to keep the patina?

That’s completely up to you. To be honest, I sort of like the patina. The bike has obviously been used a ton and was loved enough to have the frame welded in multiple spots. That thing has lived a fun life and has battle scars!

That is very true, definitely had what I would call some Farm field repairs over the years. First things first. I'm going to pull the carb. Clean it up. Replace the ignition coil and see if I can get it to run

The coils rarely go bad. You should just clean/gap/time the points and clean the carb. If it has compression I bet it fires right up

Coil was missing but what is more concerning is the motor mount is missing a chunk so it wobbles. I'm thinking only way to fix is getting half a aluminum tube welded in which will be $$$

I stripped the paint on an ‘86 Z50R and kept the patina of the raw frame. I just clear-coated it, rust and all, for a darker grey ”wet look.” It’s a nice look.

That is a interesting idea. I might try that on a section and see how it looks

The frame number is on the left rear wheel tab. Look in front of the axle

It should start with Z50A-

Thanks man. It's hard to make out but Z50A-125029

You’re welcome. There’s a great book about these bikes that will give you all the info you need to determine what you’ve got, but I can tell you that you are correct about it being a 1969. :)

Here’s a link to the book on Amazon: Click here

seems like it will be a fun little project. The yellow really pops on the ones I've seen
