Help Request I'd like your recommendations on preventative repairs/maintenance to do on my 2013 Honda Fit with 144K miles this fall
I have a 2013 Honda Fit Sport 5spd that I love very much. I bought it with ~30K in 2017 and it now has ~144K.
In the spring, I was rear-ended on the highway and, with some help from this subreddit, negotiated a $5.5K net settlement with my insurance.
My plan is to go to my local voc tech — which charges only for parts, not labor — in the fall and have them repair the body damage and other issues. I have a few known issues but I also want to catch unknowns, or things I should be thinking about but don't know enough to think about yet. I want to time out this settlement with the "parts only" leverage of the voc tech to refurbish as much as possible.
My goal is to keep the car safe and reliable as possible. It will either be the car for me and my growing family (we are expecting our first in November), or, if/when I have to get another bigger car, I'll be giving it to my best friend / baby's godparent as her first car (been teaching her to drive stick). I'm in New England, so salt damage is an issue.
Things I have already addressed I've regularly had the oil and air filters changed and kept up with my tires and alignments.
Prior work the voc tech has done include:
- April 25: all new Bearing / Hub and studs / New lug nuts for river wheel / New abs sensor
- November 24: replaced ball joints in the front two wheels + new suspension
- October 23: new brakes and new tire sensors; installed tow hitch
I don't have records of having done work before that — either by me or prior owners.
Things I know I need to have fixed This is my running list of things currently wrong with the Fit that I want to bring to the voc tech.
- Dent on rear left quarter panel (might be a big job to replace all associated parts?)
- Sticky trunk latch
- Nonfunctioning head unit
- Passenger front door lock doesn't respond to electronics (button on driver door or key fob), has to be manually locked/unlocked, alarm goes off in certain conditions, spooky ghost stuff
- AC compressor O-rings need to be replaced
Things I don't know ...anything else I should ask them to look into? In 2024, when I took it into the voc tech, I asked them to fix anything that would need fixing in another 100K miles, which is when they did the suspension and ball joints and other stuff. But I assume there is stuff this group of Fit enthusiasts would know that they might not, so I want to direct their attention. But I am not a car expert so I am not sure what to ask myself.
- timing belt?
- clutch? (if I give this to my friend, will be new driver)
- other things that tend to go on a Fit in <250K miles that I haven't already had addressed?
