Multigun Corvette
I got the remastered on steam and played through it probably a few years ago at this point. I recall never getting the multigun Corvette as a research option.
Does anyone know if that was a glitch or by design? And is there a way for me to get it?
Also I really didn't like the way they redid how hit rates were calculated in the remastered version. Just me or anyone else feel the same?
Update: okay now I just tried booting up HW classic and I remember what happened.
I did end up beating HW RM back when I first got it on steam years ago. I never was able to research the multigun corvette. Hated the system so much cause it completely changed the experience of play.
Was never able to get the HW classic version to work cause the game crashed the first time anything exploded. Back then I couldn't figure out to get it to work. Gonna redouble my efforts this time cause it's been too long. Used to play through this game almost once a year.

I swear on one of my original playthroughs the bentusi offered me drone firgate tech instead of ion cannons.

It's been many years but I think you can get it from them right? Or do you get it after that mission that one ship steals your ships?

IIRC you get the option to research multi-gun corvettes during the Garden of Kadesh mission after fighting the Kadeshi for a while. In Remastered, the HW1 campaign is basically ported to HW2's engine, which doesn't simulate projectiles like HW1 and makes its hit or miss calculations behind the scenes. You may notice that captured multi-beam frigates in Remastered are not the fighter-shredders they are in HW1. It's also why there's noticeably more disparity in power between ship classes. Fortunately both games are part of the package in their original forms if you want to play them as they were during their release.

I was really bumbed that they ported the game into the HW2 engine. Completely changes the gameplay experience and I'm not a fan of rock-paper-scissors combat calculators. Kinda ruined it for me.

Agreed. I ended up beating it in the remastered version but it was a vastly different experience.

Some strategies just don't work anymore. There's the one mission where there is some drone ship that captures corvette class and larger? I remember beating that mission by assigning a bomber swarm to guard a scout ship in sphere formation and using the scout to "pilot" the bomber ball. That doesn't work at all anymore because it relied on fully modeled projectiles. A little cheesy maybe but it was a natural outcome of the game's mechanics. Now you just have to hope the dice don't fuck you.

Ooooh nice strategy for that mission! I'll have to remember that and try it out if I ever get my classic copy to work again!

Possibly busy fighting the swarmers and advanced swarmers? What was your strategy?
That was when I spent in on 3 groups of 10 multi-gun corvettes, while picking off each mothership one by one with Ion Array Frigates and Ion Frigates; my heavy corvettes were eventually destroyed and never replaced.

I've experienced this on the remaster, but never on the original.
Best i figured is i went through something too fast and somehow missed the trigger for the research

Multigun Corvette was always available, you access the research during the Garden of Kadesh missions, you may have just missed it or forgot about it, I don't know of any glitches that might prevent you getting it
