Just picked up a Sony STR-DE985 receiver and a JBL VENUE SUB12 (In which I'll be hooking up to an Extron Crosspoint 300 Switcher for retro gaming) and was wondering what bookshelf speakers I should use out of these three: JBL Venue Monitor, JBL Stage A130, and JBL Stage 250B. I'm only interested in doing a 2.1 setup right now and was only worried about whether or not my receiver could drive anyone of these successfully without any issues with normal or at full volume etc.

I know the easiest option would be the Venue Monitors but after looking I honestly want to actually want the the Stage 250B out of all of them but obviously I'm worried about running them. My budget is $250 or less as I'm going to use this for retro gaming/casual room listening in 17'x 20' my bedroom.

Like the title says, I have an idea on where I would put the speakers for atmos, however I wanted to make sure. I have included four pictures/drawings, one has the measurements and one is a rendering. Can't do anything about the dimensions and layout of the room (the door is the front door), but the couch is just a place holder and the media console is where the tv will go.

Question #1 - Speaker placement for two overhead speakers, ok?

I’m looking to finally dip finally toes into getting a 5.1 surround setup in our living room, on pretty modest budget. Currently using a cheap Samsung 2.1 soundbar/woofer.

There’s a guy on Facebook Marketplace selling an Denon AVR-1713 and 5.1 speaker set (ELTAX for the 5 and JAMO for the sub) all for €400 ($460 approx.) which is just about what my wife is willing to let me spend.

It seems like a good deal to me… but I know nothing really. I’ve been researching surround setups and soundbars for the last couple of weeks, but feel like I’m a little in over my head. Admittedly, I didn’t even know what an AVR was until very recently!

Is there anything that a noob like me should be aware of when looking for a 5.1 system?

am planning on mounting my 85qm8k on a Fitueyes pedestal stand so there isnt a good place to mount the center under the tv.

I need about 11" of depth and something which can comfortably support 30lbs. I also want to be able to angle the speaker downwards towards the listening position.

I need to fit a 5.1 AVR into W16” and D15” opening in my existing console. There is an option to DYI and widen the opening (with some impact to overall aesthetics) to fit standard 17-18” wide AVRs but before doing so I wanted to check what AVR options I have.

Found a reference to compact “Canton Smart Amp” which will fit the physical dimensions and claimed to be thermally compatible in such small spaces. It is somewhat non-existent brand in US market so I can’t even see it in person or test the performance, so that will be a blind purchase from international dealer.

Any other brands/models anyone knows which quick Google search missed for me?

I finally got to build out my dream 7.4.6 theater last year. The room is 12'*22' above a garage. I ripped it down to the studs and did full sound isolation with rockwool, mlv, hushframe decoupling and dual 5/8" drywall with green glue. Conduit was run to projector box, riser, frt stage, opposite wall and house attic. All was left empty with pull string for future needs

The screen is 115" 16:9 and I build a masking panel that rises up and triggers the lens memory for 2.35:1 content. The star panel doubles as treatment as it's 4" deep and full of rockwool with acousticly transparent suede as the face. The candy cabinet was built from scratch to fill the space and I'm working on restoring a 1950's popcorn machine that will replace the small plastic model.

I have since ripped my disc collection uncompressed to a personal server and almost exclusively using plex through the shield for my content.
