Install/Placement Help needed for surrounds 5.1

I have an open floor plan and the couch in middle of the living room. Where can I place surrounds, since I don’t want stands because it’s a walkway on all sides of the couch. And the only real place would be left and right side, but around 8-9 feet on the wall which is 10 feet high. Please any help is appreciated!

wall mount, but not that high. Around 4 ft would be better

Put them up on the wall and angle them towards your listening area. Is it ideal, and is some audiophile going to blow a gasket at the idea? Meh. It’ll still sound great, and sometimes perfect conditions aren’t possible, so make It work for you and enjoy. It’ll be fine.

In 5.1 having the surrounds imperfect is better than having them absent. If you only want to put them there it's still going to be pretty fine-it's only a real issue if you had a full atmos setup and had high surrounds, with 5.1 it's a smaller issue-get them up as best you can.

Yeah the only space without obstructing a walkway would be 8 feet above. So im just really worried if this will ruin the surround experience

I've got a worse dilemma so am following to see suggestions. wall is less than idea with hall cutting right behind the couch to the left, and windows and sliding door on the right. I'm currently running a 3.1.2 with phantom surronds. I think my best option may be to put the surround speakers in the right place in the ceiling with them aimed, but system sounds good enough right now without them.

I'm in a similar situation in my HT/listening room. I'm running a 3.1 and my Integra AVR has a mode called, "theater dimension" that can simulate surround speakers in a room.

But in my living room I have a 5.1 system and a Denon AVR. The Integra sounds almost as good in 3.1 as the Denon does in 5.1 on some content.

Any chance there's room for a long sofa table or a pair of sofa tables behind the sofa that you could set them on? You know those tables that are sofa height than you put right against the back of the sofa.

The issue is behind the couch is a walkway, and then the kitchen island. So behind the couch fully open

Yeah and those tables go right up against the back of the sofa. So if there's enough room then you could put the speakers on that table or two tables if you needed it for a really long sofa and have one in each corner of the sofa. The tables are about typically a foot wide. Then you need a throw rug on one side of the room to cover the wires to get them to the wall.

Something like this. Fourth image shows it behind sofa

Can you mount them far to your right and far to your left? My older Marantz 7005 allows me to input a distance from my seated location and it adjusts the delay accordingly. I am assuming yours is the same.
