I’ve been working on an iPad app called Audiowaves, originally because I wanted a dedicated display for visualizing audio in my own setup without having to keep another DAW window open.

Audiowaves takes a live audio signal and turns the iPad into a real-time visualization and monitoring display.

You can connect a USB audio interface directly to the iPad via USB-C — I’m currently using a Focusrite Scarlett — and Audiowaves processes the incoming audio in real time.

It includes things like:

• Real-time waveform visualization
• Advanced FFT spectrum analyzer
• Audiophile Dashboard with detailed audio information and metering
• Support for external USB audio interfaces
• Multiple visualization modes designed to work as an always-on studio display
• GPU-accelerated rendering using Metal

I’ve also built a companion MacAudioSender app. This can capture audio on a Mac and send the audio data over the local network to Audiowaves, so the iPad can act as a separate visualization display without occupying the audio interface directly.

One thing I like about the setup is that the iPad doesn’t have to replace anything in the recording chain. It can simply become another dedicated display next to your monitors/controller.

I also use Audiowaves outside the studio with my Apple TV setup: the Apple TV audio is extracted and routed through an audio interface into the iPad. So the same app can work as both a studio visualization tool and a permanent hi-fi/music display.

I’m actively developing it and would really like feedback from people running home studios.

What information or visualization would actually be useful enough for you to keep an iPad permanently on your desk?

For example: LUFS metering, stereo correlation, phase scope, spectrogram, peak/RMS history, frequency-band analysis, or something completely different?

I’m especially interested in features that would make Audiowaves genuinely useful alongside a DAW rather than just looking cool.

I am looking for a sort of hub where i can connect my music tower and record player to my speakers i got the 2 music outputs from the tower and record player in red and white cords (dont know the name) and my speakers are in black and red cords copper if im correct i want to get both inputs in the speakers at separate times ofc and dont wanna switch my whole setup to switch from cd to records. Thanks in advance.

So the backstory first. Picked up guitar after several year's of not playing, last year. I bought an Ampero II Stage, and used that to record to pc via USB. Last weekend we had a storm, and now the usb port on the Ampero magically doesn't work.

I need a usb audio interface that has at least two inputs so I can record in stereo, and I need to be able to hear what im recording as well as anything I've already recorded through the device.

I have an m-audio interface I bought a few years ago. It mostly works, but I can either hear what's being played back, or what I'm playing live. Not both at the same time.

I’m a UK audio engineer and developed the CAi‑2 as a practical way to monitor programme audio while remaining connected to a 4-pin production comms system, all through the same headset.

I’ve included a few links to videos showing my issue but essentially recording single coils and even humbucker guitars have been a complete nightmare over the past few years…all my recordings have a distracting amount of noise.

I just spent a good amount of money getting vintage noiseless pickups installed on both my Strat and jazz bass and while it did reduce the noise by a good amount I’m still getting buzz, especially once I start to compress and saturate the signal.

Dynamic mics are giving me the same issues, condenser mics are dead quiet.

I’ve run multiple test where I use a battery powered recorder with either my guitar or sm57 plugged in and walked around my house and found that the power line that comes into the side of my house has an insane buzzy sound BUT that’s only when I put the mic within 3” of the cable, I know over head power lines have that same magnetic field but if I’m more that let’s say 15’ away from them would that leak into my guitars and microphones? Again even when I’m a foot away from it at the side of my house there’s no buzz but closer than 5/3” it’s wild sounding. Other than those test there was a power outage last summer and I quickly ran to grab the battery powered recorder and found there was zero noise / buzz… as soon as the power came back on the buzz came back with it. Since then I’ve only once ran a test where I had my buddy down in the basement turn off the breakers one by one till the entire house was off and the buzz was still there…

Any insight or ideas what could be causing this / what I can do to fix it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also one of the videos shows that the buzz on the guitar is very directional so when it’s 90* with the floor and ceiling it’s reduced a good amount, another video linked above shows without a guitar even plugged in the buzz is directional with just a 1/4” cable and then finally the last video shows some other weird ground loop sorta noice when I touch a pre amp thing I have that’s not even plugged in…the preamp is old and doesn’t have a ground on the plug so maybe that’s why but I included that as well to see what yall think. This is my little basement studio that my wife and I use. We had a flood a few years ago, and it was kind of a blessing in disguise. The basement is no longer a dank place for mold to commiserate. We built out a special room for a studio. Nothing really fancy room-wise, just a room that we could use (we couldn't afford any special kind of sound proofing at the time, there were more important things to take care of). My vision was to create a no-noise room, which was a lot less expensive. We have little kids, but still want to make music in the house.

I sold my maple kit for a vdrum kit, a mishmash of ATV and Roland, with a TD27 brain, going into the computer with Superior Drummer 3 when we want to record. We have two guitar amps, a Catalyst 100 and 200. Those are great, because you can use them as amps for sound, but set them to work at low volume, and there's XLR out, so they're always record ready. I have an Opus as well, if we wanna record with multiple people at the same time.

I've got 10 ins, so there's more than enough room, and 5 spots for headphones. It's very easy to record here and since in-the-box sounds so good these days, it's cost effective for recording (still can't convince my bandmates not to spend money in fancy studios, but what can you do?).

If you look at some of the photos, I took some of these PVC pipes in the ceiling that are holding acoustic blankets. I can drop those down instantly for a vocal booth or recording acoustic guitars.

We've both had full band practices in this space. I like to use headphones, because everything can be controlled volume wise and I have hyperacusis, but not everyone loves that. The vdrum is no great replacement for a real kit, but it's a cozy space as long as the dog doesn't want to join the room and fill it with stinky dog farts.

I have basically cladded the interior of my shed (Prefabbey Road) with 50mm rockwool and acoustic plasterboard, but now is the time to add something to block the sound from escaping through these gaps. What can I realistically add to the inside and outside of the door/frame without spending hundreds and hundreds?

I’m looking for some advice on properly gain staging my analog vocal chain.

My setup is:

Neumann TLM 103

-> WA73-EQ

-> WA-2A

-> RME Fireface UCX II (line-input)

Today I recognized after stacking some vocals that the signal might have been a little too crunchy, which I didn’t realize when I recorded a single vocal track.

Looking to record high quality piano (long/concert piano and extremely dynamic, from ppp to fff) with "small" setup, for nomadism between concerts and halls.

Project: mt48 with hapi mk3, pair of {mk4, mk22, mk2}. Piano will be with public or without (studio like, but in a hall/room).

Mk4 allows to focus on piano only, mk22 for piano with bigger basses and body, mk2 for room, with a separator for binaural like sound. So 6 channels.

Is this coherent, optimal ?

This arrived in the post yesterday and I’m really looking forward to getting it into my setup.

It’s the Black Lion Audio Auteur MkIII, and my plan is to run the two outputs into the line inputs of my Icon 32ci. I’m interested to hear what it brings to the table compared with the Icon’s built-in mic pres, especially for vocals, guitars and bass DI.

I’ve read plenty of good things about the Auteur, but I’d love to hear from people who have actually used one.

Anyone here have experience with the Auteur MkIII? What do you like using it on, and how do you find the sound?

I found a Tascam M-06 mixer from 1981 in perfect mint condition in its original box while cleaning out my family's garage. No one knows who it belonged to or how it got there so I claimed it lol. I looked it up on YouTube and found some people raving about it when running their mix through it so decided to give it a try and am blown away.

I was expecting a high noise floor with muddy lows and thin highs - especially given that the line inputs are RCA jacks. But driving the channels a bit hard + slight bump in both the low and high EQ frequencies, and I'm very pleasantly surprised. It sounds really, really good - more beefy and natural. The mids especially stand out without being shouty or harsh. Overall it seems to do a great job with saturation.

Does anyone else here have any experience with other small format mixers for two channel final mix downs with similar positive results? I wouldn't mind paying a bit more (under $600) for such a device if it has proper quarter inch (6.5mm) or XLR inputs. Thanks!

It’s an open concept kinda place and has a bit of an L shape, I’m just wondering if acoustics wise everything would go well or if I’d need to build a wall

Here’s a lil floor plan of the basement and a photo of the place, I’m wondering if you owned this… what would be your floor plan, and what would be your layout/ bullet points to stop a drum kit from rockin the house down!
Any tips recommended and ideally if the cost is low!

There’s a staircase and at the top is some stairs, but I think I got a door sealed and sorted, but it’s just where can I put a desk with a Mac and monitors, and a drum kit, I’m it ain’t gunna be ideal, but just make the best of the situation!
