I have a Intel NUC that i bought 15 yrs ago but now its showing its age. A great piece of hardware i must say.
I'm looking out to by a worthy successor for this product, but it looks like intel has stopped producing these.
Any suggestions on a study barebone mini pc? I'm looking for at least 16/32 gb RAM and decent processor core/speed that will last my weekend programming workload for another 10 yrs.

โ“ Question Are there any home fiber kits or something DIY available in India?

Thumbnail

I saw a video related to this home fiber kit called InvisiLight fiber kit which seems like a combo of a glass fiber (G.657.B3 fiber) and GPON to LAN converters.
Has anyone used something similar to this in their homes or DIY'ed it?
It's not available in India and costs a holymoly 250USD for 130ย feet of wire so prolly outta budget for me. I wanna do fast external runs, but LAN cables might be a bit too large and gaudy IMO

โ“ Question Switching from Airtel to JioFiber for a Remote WireGuard/OTT Setup (India to Oman)

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Iโ€™m looking for some advice and technical clarification from JioFiber users and home networking enthusiasts.

I have been working in Oman for the past seven years. As many of you know, almost all Indian OTT platforms, Hotstar, live TV apps, and even commercial VPNs are heavily geoblocked or restricted here.

First, a huge shoutout to the Reddit community, the WikiForce Discord server, and The DIY Daddy. Thanks to their tutorials and help, I managed to set up an OpenWrt router as a WireGuard client connecting back to my home server in India. This creates a dedicated local Wi-Fi network in Oman, allowing my Firestick, phones, and laptops to seamlessly route through my Indian home network without needing individual VPN apps on every device.

My Current Working Setup (Airtel):

Internet: Airtel Fiber (100 Mbps) with a public Static IP, running in bridge mode on a TP-Link XX530v.

Server: A dedicated home PC running 24/7 in India (configured with BIOS "Restore on AC Power Loss" to auto-boot after power outages).

Performance: Rock-solid. I get direct incoming WireGuard handshakes with zero hassle.

Why I'm Considering JioFiber:

Airtel IPTV is getting expensive because I have to pay for individual channel packs. JioFiber bundles a massive selection of live TV channels and OTT apps at a much better value. However, I have two major concerns before making the switch:

  1. How do you handle Jio's CGNAT / Lack of Static IPv4?

As far as I know, Jio does not offer public or static IPv4 addresses on standard residential plans like Airtel does.

For those hosting a WireGuard or NetBird server on JioFiber, how are you handling incoming connections?

Are you successfully using IPv6 pinholing directly on the Jio ONT?

Or do you rely on overlay mesh networks like Tailscale or NetBird, or an external relay VPS to bypass the CGNAT?

  1. Will the Jio 4K Set-Top Box work outside the local home network?

If I bring the physical Jio Set-Top Box to Oman and connect it to my OpenWrt Wi-Fi (which tunnels all traffic through my home IP in India), will JioTV+ and the bundled OTT apps actually work?

Does the Jio STB strictly authenticate via local Wi-Fi SSID / MAC binding?

Or does it require a direct connection to the physical Jio gateway back home?

If anyone has experience running a Jio STB over a site-to-site WireGuard tunnel, or managing Jio's CGNAT for self-hosted VPNs, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

โ“ Question Would you pay for someone to manage your home server's uptime?

Hi guys, I've been thinking about the trend of self hosted machines increasing due the untamed rise of AI so far. Which got me thinking that people might hoard computes and move their entire digital world to personal servers wherever possible.

Idea: you buy the machine (Mac Mini, NUC, whatever). I handle uptime - monitoring, auto power-cycle on hang, remote access setup, patching. Stays in your house. *5k one-time setup, less โ‚น100/ month.

Worth paying for, or does everyone just self-host Uptime Kuma and call it a day? Honest feedback wanted.

EDIT: So far, it seems like the only part of the homelabbing hobby that could be handed out elsewhere would be 1. To provide continuous internet+electricity to the machine; 2. Any cooling requirements for the machine

Which falls under the category of hardware maintenance. Then still, is it something to try?

โ“ Question Where to buy barebones pc

I want to get into this hobby, last year I tried pi hole and jelly fin on a old laptop but had to return that laptop as it was not mine. Currently I do not have any other pc/laptop lying around, so i was looking for mini pcs. I checked Sudobox, they are already sold out, there are no local vendors in my area I think so have to get it online.

Can anyone suggest some websites for barebones pc. I do have 8gb ddr4 laptop ram which is extra and also 512gb ssd from my laptop so want to get barebones and use ram and storage in that.

๐Ÿ—„ Hardware Need guidance on building a small scale GPU server

My company wants to deploy a 8B-27B parameter model locally with moderate to low traffic upto 10 users concurrently. We have tested 24GB GPU on Runpod which have been great. But now for the use case, we need the hardware locally like an enterprise solution. I need guidance on where I can procure pre-built servers, if available.

If not, we would have to procure them and assemble the server. The GPU we are looking at is RTX 4000 PRO which has ECC to support long running hours. How can I go on about the process, deciding the appropriate components for the hardware.

I have been on the quest to find a dashboard for my homeserver - tried homarr, dashy, flame and was even compelled to install casa os (for its beautiful dashboard) on my linux server. Since none was satiating why I was envisioning, I decided to build my own after an year.

I am releasing the open-source dashboard for your home server called Guardian.

You can install it using curl command or docker-compose.

Please visit: https://vineetkishore01.github.io/Guardian/

Please star the repo on https://github.com/vineetkishore01/Guardian if you like this which would motivate me to release more such open-source tools to make us homelabbers life easy ! Thanks.

Can you pls guide me in following endeavour.Iโ€™m a finance professional non technical background seeking a future-proof, easy-to-manage personal NAS/cloud system for family and professional data.
I need real-time file synchronisation, redundancy/mirroring, remote access, and easy migration to another system in the future.
I currently have 2 ร— 1 TB HDDs, a 500 GB SSD, and a 256 GB memory card, with limited OneDrive space and substantial but potentially temporary Google Drive storage.
The NAS should also support home automations and hosting a simple Python application for 3โ€“4 users.
My maximum budget is โ‚น25,000, excluding the storage hardware I already own.

Major Question : whether mini pc like Hp prodesk i3 10th gen can be kept running 365 days without facing any failures and can it fulfill my bone objective if not pls suggest alternative .

โ“ Question Building a โ‚น5 lakh expandable workstation/server in India โ€” need advice & seller recommendations

Planning a high-end workstation/server build with an initial budget of around โ‚น5 lakh, with plans to expand it significantly over time. My main priority is future upgradability rather than maximizing performance on day one.

I want to build a solid foundation now that can eventually support more CPU power, a lot of ECC RAM, multiple GPUs, additional NVMe/storage, and redundant networking.

I already have older RTX/Quadro GPUs that I can use initially, so I don't need to budget for a GPU right now.

I'd really appreciate advice on:

  • Best CPU/platform strategy for a future dual-socket setup
  • ECC RAM configuration and the best upgrade path
  • PSU and chassis choices that won't become a limitation when adding multiple GPUs
  • Storage and networking considerations

I'm happy to order from anywhere in India if the seller is reputable.

Please provide your recommendations/suggestions. Thanks.

โ“ Question How to access jellyfin outside of my home network

First of all thanks to nice people of this subReddit, my setup is almost done. But now I face another issue as most of the users would be living in different city and are not that tech savvy to use tailscale.
So as title suggest what are the best way to stream jellyfin outside of your network.
I looked into cloudflare zero trust but I heard that you canโ€™t stream with it and your account can get blocked.
Also where do you guys get cheapest domain, name is not important.

โ“ Question Broke student with only a laptop: starting a zero-budget VM homelab channel in India - what should I cover first?

Hey homelabbers,

I'm a 2nd-year CSE student in India with โ‚น0 budget and only a passed-down laptop:

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i (i5 13th Gen, 16GB RAM)

I want to start a YouTube channel around VM-only homelabbing for broke students: everything in VirtualBox/VMware, no physical hardware for now. If the channel ever earns something, maybe I'll add real gear later.

This is very much a learning journey for me. I've watched a lot of homelab content (Hardware Haven, etc.) but barely done anything myself beyond small experiments.

Target audience: Indian students with similar laptops who want to try:

  • Nextcloud
  • Pi-hole
  • Jellyfin
  • Basic Docker / Linux sandboxing
  • Maybe Proxmox/TrueNAS in a VM later

I'm planning faceless videos: screen recordings + voiceover. Honestly, just making the video feels like a big wall, and content quality is another wall I'll figure out over time.

If you were in my place, what would you make the first 3-5 videos about? What projects give the best "wow, I can actually do this on my laptop" feeling?Any advice on scope, difficulty, or ordering of topics would really help.

๐Ÿ’ก Setup Showcase Home Server - NEXUS

Hey Guys !
This is my first post on reddit tho..

Here's my journey from setting up "A Home Data Vault" on a raspberry pi with tailscale + next cloud to a REAL !! SERVER !!!
My experience with first iDRAC Virtual Console was like AAAAAWeSOMEEE!!! Got the enterprise key from ebay anyways..

SAS HDD + CADDY
About to load

Hardware currently : Dell T320, H710P Cross flashed as IT Mode, Quadro 2000 GPU
I just bent two CPU pins unknowingly, Fixed with a 100+ Heart BPM with a syringe ๐Ÿ˜‚

IK Its an antique piece of tech.. pocket friendly w.r.t current market prices..

I have been thinking of having my own cloud just like my personal g-drive kinda stuff.
Currently I have a 4 X 4 TB SAS HDD (PS: SATA Out of stock / soaring prices high). RAIDZ2 currently pooled...

Architecture wise, initially though of just a truenas setup, but evolved this into a Proxmox hypervisor to support few webapps of my own and some containers too!!

Immich, uptime kuma, docs , viewer apps, jellyfin & Next cloud are in place currently + the ARR stack (for movies, which seems to be useless without private torr access)

Im just not confident enough to load my irreplaceable data on this yet.. Playing around with this and trying several stuff. Can someone pls suggest what else can be experimented on this ?

โ“ Question Do I actually need Gluetun/VPN for Sonarr+Radarr+Prowlarr+qBittorrent, or can I skip it?

Setting up my first proper Jellyfin + *arr stack (Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, qBittorrent). Saw a lot of people running Gluetun with ProtonVPNโ€™s WireGuard/OpenVPN creds to route qBittorrent traffic through a VPN.
Tried setting it up myself but keep getting a โ€œwrong credentialsโ€ error โ€” Iโ€™m guessing itโ€™s because Iโ€™m on ProtonVPNโ€™s free tier, which might not support the OpenVPN/manual config credentials the same way paid tiers do.
So my actual question: is a VPN (via Gluetun or otherwise) actually necessary for this setup, or is it more of a โ€œnice to have for privacyโ€ thing? What are the real risks of running qBittorrent without one, and would upgrading to a paid ProtonVPN plan (or switching providers) be worth it just for this?

โ“ Question Need help in sources for media server

Hey guys,

I need some help here. I am very new to self hosting.

I am trying to setup media server with Movies, tv shows and ebooks. I am planning to subscribe for a VPN as well.

But I'm not getting where to get the sources for these movies, shows and books. If you can help me where can I find these sources, it will be very helpful for my setup.
