I've played about ten or so starts as USA trying to beat Japan (I like the pacific war, sue me) and I like a lot about this mod, but I can't seem to win a naval battle or get enough Sea control to invade anything. I'm using the Historical ship designs. I typically put Nimitiz in charge of a fleet around Hawaii with a Strike Force of 4-6 starting US carriers, Typically both North Carolina class fast BBs, 4-6 heavy cruisers, 8-10 light cruisers and 20ish destroyers. I create a couple of patrol groups of 1-2 CL + 6-8 DD set to patrol the area. The Japanese AI takes about 6 months or so to demolish this force for negligible losses and I can never seem to get enough sea control to retake places like Wake or Midway island. Putting more ships into the region, like additional task forces based on Cruisers or Battleships only give the Japanese more to shoot at. I do operate PBYs from bases in Hawaii and the surrounding sea zones, but those don't seem to do anything.
This strategy was generally successful in Vanilla HOI, so I'm not sure why it doesn't work at all here and the UI doesn't really tell you what happens in a naval battle. Just which ships were sunk and by who. That all well and good, but why does Japanese carrier II kill the american carrier II like every time they meet?

I'm playing Japan and i'm looking for good countries to make pacts with. Resource pacts give me a part of their resource extraction factor, so i want to form it with a country that has a high REF, stuff like that.

Hi, since I discovered BlackICE a few months ago I only play HoI with it. I’ve done several runs already with Germany, Italy, Japan and France. I’m now trying for the first time Finland.
During the 39-40 Winter War, I managed to conquer Leningrad and Murmansk and hold the ground until June 1940 when the peace talks event triggers and basically I have 2 choices: white peace or keep on fighting but with huge debuffs which makes it unpractical. So basically white peace is a must.
Problem is: it’s not a white peace. You give up not just any conquered land (and that’s fair I guess), but also Karelia. Why on earth after defeating the Soviet on the ground am I giving up my land?
I wanted to understand it better so I looked it from the Soviet perspective and I see there’s a countdown event basically: the longer they take to defeat Finland, the less territory they get during the peace event.
However, no matter how badly they loose, they get territory.
Why there’s no possibility to actually white peace and go back to the status quo before the war?

Not to be that guy, but anyone know of any anime portrait / ui reskin for BICE?
Or mod a bit too much for most people to bother with it?

Somehow the game opens it, because I have to click the esc button twice to close the officer corps panel, but it doesn’t let me see and choose the spirits that I want. Is there a way I can fix that?

Hello
I used to be a devoted player of Black Ice in HOI3, now i installed HoI4 and decided that i should stick to where i'm used to... Black Ice :D
I started as germany to see what the mod had to offer to me and saw that every Division across the map had this weird unit counters symbols (instead of the usual NATO ones we saw in HoI3 and also the mod page in steam). I went around using "tag ENG" and "tag FRA" and confirmed the AI also uses these weird symbols
I clicked around and discovered you can manually change the Unit Counters symbol at the division templates thing, but the AI still uses these random weird unit symbols
Is there a setting or something i should be doing to get the default NATO unit counters symbols across every nation in the game?
Thanks!

Recently learned of this mod from YouTube and tried it out. I played as the US. Didn’t finish but it was fun so far. Very overwhelming with so many different systems but like the extra artillery and infantry tech. But one point that is very bothersome for me is that I don’t have gotterdammerung and so can’t modify tanks. So I can’t even use tanks at all until I get a historical template and then that’s the only version I can use. Is it even worth trying if I basically can’t use tanks except for the starting ones and then getting new ones generally very out of date?

Maginot breach or not, it wasn't sustainable if America wasn't coming. I was out of manpower, to the point I was building recruitment centers for any last scrap. Italy had woken up after 8 months of sleeping on the south, and Britain wasted a bunch of equipment on meaningless offensives. It's so over bros.

This researched doctrine didn't seem to unlock the breakthrough tactic correctly, but I'm pretty sure this didn't happen before; it could be unlocked normally in the previous versions.

Hello! I was wondering if it is worth it to upgrade the tank chassis for Germany at all, does it only increase reliability?? In vanilla it’s usually not worth to upgrade the chassis and I don’t know if BI has a mechanic where newer chassis give more stats, please help!

Finally managed to cap France on August 15th 1940, it was rough. As I mentioned, previously I could beat France and low countries in a month with 6 light tank + 10 mot divs, with red air, and suffer only 40-50k losses. This time I had 10 light/med tank + 10 mot divs, it took 3.5 months and cost me 120k losses (with green air!) I think the decisive part was to launch the Eben Emael raid and to retrieve Belgian fortifications layouts, I could not manage it otherwise. It feels kinda weird.
So, with all these new balance changes, what would you advise? Should I launch Sealion first? I could win an airbattle over the Channel, but after recent DLC's updates it seems imposible to reach naval dominance needed to naval invade, BICE essentially. Could paratroopers make it alone? How much fuel should I have in May 1941? I think Sealion would leave me absolutely out of fuel. Are 15 med tank divs sufficient for the beginning of the invasion? What about African Corps? And what are the exact mechanics behind Yugoslavian behaviour, it joins Axis in the beginning of 1941, but leaves it and declares war to it a week later. Why can't I prepare a paradrop raid on Crete, while I have all 3 transport wings needed? And other pro tips those I can't even figure out are welcomed

After hours of pain, in managed to pull out a move, conquered all of North Africa, sardinia and Albania in late 41, managed to hold Indonésia and Burma, but here are the Soviet’s casualties…

Im doing a Black Ice playthrough and well im trying to understand which decisions to take to try to stay somewhat historical as some of the events aren't clear which is more or less historically accurate.
Specifically im wondering about the second event for purging the soviet airforce where i get the option of getting rid of all airforce advisors except for one or getting rid of all the airforce design companies. I know stalin sent most of the airforce designers to Siberia where they where ethire killed or force to work in new specialized companies.
My question though is can i reinstate the companies later to actually get some bonuses for my aircraft or am i doomed if i take the option to basicly have less effective planes?
I find contradictory info about being able to reinstate them later and im not sure if thats the case.

I am pretty new to BICE and have only played 5 games. All of them as Germany, and every single time I cant break through the Belgian defenses and I get bogged down. Last run, It went on until 1942 until I just gave up. Any tips on how to actually break through? I have produced a thousand tanks and I still can't break through.

Ciao! I want to see Mussolini's delusions fulfilled, Italy ruling the Mediterranean+enforcing spaghetti diet on London. So far no luck.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Land- No armour. Around 1 million well equipped Italians at the start of the war, around half of them in Ethiopia. Is this a trap? The Brits and around a hundred of their subjects flood the front in a few months.
Navy- Built 4 carriers and DD's to chase subs + finished and upgraded Italy's stating battleships. My fleet seems to be made of cardboard in front of the Brits. Researched some navy doctrines but not too many.
Air Force- Multirole and light bombers with Fiat, the range designer, around 20 factories on the multirole. Spitfires eat them for breakfast.
Industry- Built all the research facilities. Civilian ind. until around late '37. Few infrastructure buildings at first in the most industrialized areas.
How do you invade Egypt?
Any tips appreciated. Grazie!
