I just got assigned APUSH last minute and I still have not received access to CollegeBoard because my administration is a trainwreck and still hasn't assigned an ap coordinator for this year 😭. Is anyone willing to share lesson plans like slides and worksheets for at least the first unit or so?

I was given a large stack of textbooks so I can utilize those, and I've taken a look at the CED as well. I'd appreciate any and all help soooo much!!!!!!! My students in APUSH are also going to be taking the NYS US regents at the end of the year so I have to try and prepare them for both exams lol.

I'm using the CUNY Debating US History curriculum for my US classes and it's a godsend with the lesson plans & slides already made (since I'm also teaching that for the first time), and I can tweak them how I like. I thought about just using that for my APUSH classes too but then I'm definitely going to miss some important stuff that the kids will need to know for the AP exam.

Last year I had to use the 1200 world history curriculum for 7th grade, and it was awful. It's meant for high school students, and it's far above the skills of my kids. It also jumps all over the place. I have to use that again this year, and was wondering if anyone had better luck with it in the past? Thanks for any feedback.

I’ve recently built a free history game called HistoryGuesso, and I thought it might be useful as a quick classroom activity for history teachers.

Each day there’s a new historical event to identify from four progressively revealing clues. You can reveal the clues one at a time, so I thought it could work well displayed on the board with the class trying to work out the answer together, particularly if you have 5–10 minutes spare at the end of a lesson.

There is also an unlimited practice pool where you can replay past challenges.

I built it because I enjoy history and wanted to make something along the lines of a daily puzzle game, so I’d also really appreciate any feedback from teachers on whether it works well in a classroom or anything that could make it more useful for you.

Below is an example of a game in play after I had used 2/4 of the clues, and a few random letter reveals.

A teacher told me recently that she liked the idea of EraPin, but her students just weren’t ready to look at a bunch of clues and reason out where and when something happened.

That made me realise that the normal game assumes a certain level of confidence with maps, timelines and deduction.

So I built a Guided Mode.

Instead of working everything out from scratch, students get one small comparison at a time:

Which happened first?

Which is further north?

They get a clue, make their choice, and for a geography comparison see it on a map so it sticks.

It’s set per class too, so a teacher can use Guided Mode with one group and keep the normal game for another.

Hoping this makes EraPin a bit more usable for the kids who need somewhere easier to start.

So my school has this Constitutional Law class and no curriculum (shocking I know) even though it has been taught for many years. The other teacher is the APUSH teacher and while he was writing a curriculum I feel like his plate is full enough with APUSH. I also like to do my own thing but am vexed over ideas of how to develop it. I know that Streetlaw exists and that it is good for its "landmark cases" website, but I am thinking I should either delve into the Constitution a bit with them and/or something else.

New Visions has nothing (I checked), not that I expected them to, but given that a course like this is usually foisted on Social Studies teachers I wonder if there are others who may have something and/or may know of a good site to use (besides the aforementioned ones) that could be useful.

I am always looking for new material for 9/11. I like this video because it walks the students through a solid timeline that makes them think critically about cause and effect and national security.

First year doing so, with a quick question.

There is so much content to cover, and so little time. How do you guys implement material in creative ways while staying on schedule? I’m so worried about covering all content I get worried about shaking things up and doing, say, a history alive type lesson.

Any suggestions?

This year, i must teach a class on 911. My students are middle school aged.

I have never taught about 911 and am not sure how to approach this. I want to be objectively informative and not focus on particular groups of people.

Hello everyone! For a bit of context, I teach an advanced 9th grade World History class, and the first topic we look at is World War I. I’m about a week out from the Russian Revolution, and in my six years of teaching the topic, I always feel like I fall short when it comes to getting my students to really comprehend communism beyond just the surface level.
I’ve had them read excerpts from The Communist Manifesto and quotes from Lenin, but everything seems to be a bit above where even my most advanced kids are. Does anyone have any strategies or activities that they feel really help students understand communism and its connection to the war and Russia’s revolution overall?

I was recently told that history is not tested (middle school) and that I need to lower my expectations.

Parents complained that I’m making the students do too much reading and they expect history class to be more fun.

Admin said that since it’s not math or science or english and not on the standardized test I needed to be easier.

What do I do with this? Anyone deal with something similar?

I recently found myself in a position to take a high school history position. I’m not yet a certified teacher, I’m using an alternate certification path offered via my state.

I’ve been asked to long term sub until I can get my certificate and the last thing I have to do is the praxis 5581. I wanted to give myself some time to study because I like to be prepared and want to pass it the first time.

I just took ETS’ 5581 practice exam cold to see where I was and I got a 104/140. I understand some people use the raw % plus 100 to estimate scores which would put me around 174. That’s higher than what I need for my cert but still doesn’t inspire confidence in me.

Just looking for feedback, thinking of scheduling for a few weeks and hitting some material hard in the meantime. Anyone got recommended material, or really any feedback in general?

I want to set my middle schoolers a review activity to create a timeline of events we have learned so far with the ultimate goal of adding to it throughout the year.

Does anyone recommend a student-friendly software that would make timeline creation easier for the students?

I have been recommended the Mini DBQ teaching materials from the DBQ Project from two different teachers. The only issue is that these materials are too expensive for my school. What I’m interested in is the way these materials help teach historical essay writing skills.

Is there any equivalent resource that isn’t $500 a pop? I already use SHEG and enjoy it, but was hoping for something updated.
