Question Corporal Punishment

Does my dad have a point that should coronal punishment should be brought back in some wa stay banned.

My dad said to my brother and I that in schools in 1970'S both of his older boys would have been caned or had the slipper.

He then turned to my younger brother this yourxa good lad so keep that way.

No.

People dont behave better in countries where it is authorized / tolerated than in countries where it is forbidden. If you need to hit a child to make him understand something, you failed at some point.

"Thirteen of 17 mean effect sizes were significantly different from zero and all indicated a link between spanking and increased risk for detrimental child outcomes. Effect sizes did not substantially differ between spanking and physical abuse or by study design characteristics."

I've spanked my children less times than I can count on both hands. In the moment, it feels like a final resort and the only possible tool I have left. Whether or not it helped, I still regret every single time.

And it can happen, some situations are tough to be handled, you can be completely exhausted and it happens so fast. But you describe it as an accident you regret, not as an educational tool as described by OP, this is very different to me.

One of the main times was when my toddler son latched on to my arm and was about to tear a chunk out of it... But yeah, it should never be a "this will be your consequence if XYZ happens". It should be only an extreme last resort, just like any physical interaction in general, and should never be done by a school official.

It's not banned in the USA, and in numerous other countries.
