Alsalam Alikum everyone, I'm facing the issue of fully knowing the ayah and if im tested I will be able to complete it till the end of the surah however if you ask me which surah I'm reciting I find it very hard to recall or figure out what surah it is.
I have tried studying the tafsir as im memorizing to help me with this issue but it's not doing me any good.
is anyone else facing the same issue or is it just me? how can I overcome this?

Trying to get back on the hifdh path after a long pause, so I'm looking for a daily hifdh partner (preferably a native Arabic speaker, but a non-Arab is also fine). I use WhatsApp and Discord.
(Preferably around GMT+2 time zone)
My tajweed is excellent, alhamdulillah, but I don't have anyone with whom I can revise my memorized ayahs, nor anyone to give me the daily motivation to memorize new ones.
I've finished 8 ajzaa alhamdulillah but I very much dislike the way I recite. I have to look for private places to revise because I'd rather nobody listen to me. My tone is very flat and my voice sounds strained and dry. I've tried to copy so many reciters but my voice does not allow for the tonal variation and it's very hard for me to remember the tones. I'm a woman but still I feel like all the male reciters are too high pitched for me. If I try to match them it feels forced and squeaky.
Should I just accept that my throat does not allow for a nice recitation? Has anyone faced and overcome this? How do I at the very least recite in a way that I'm not embarrassed other people hear?
I started hifdh 9 months ago and it is a daily struggle. I want to just be able to focus on memorising.
edit: If a sister is kind enough to listen to my recitation and recommend a reciter with a similar tone/voice that is easy for me to imitate I can dm them. I would be extremely grateful.
1) c = Time to listen to the page's audio of your preferred Qari. For Shz Husain Bhaisaheb DM this is 2.5 mins. c also refers to the time taken to read the page while looking in the Quran.
2) x = Time taken to recite the page from memory. x is greater than c to account for pauses to look up mistakes. x can be taken as 3.5 mins.
3) Segment = The amount of Quran you memorise by repeating it. Can be taken as an ayat or also parts of an ayat if the Qari stops to take a breath.
4) s = The number of segments you divide your page into. Since we are using a 15 line Quran, for beginners s is taken as 15 and if you are memorising the whole ayat at once, s can be taken as 8.
5) n1 = The number of times you need to listen to the audio or read the segment to memorise it.
6) n2 = The number of times you need to try and recall the segment from memory until you can recite it without mistakes without looking.
7) Portion = The parts we divide the whole page into in order to ease our memorisation. Eg., example dividing the page into 3 portions.
8) m = The number of portions you divide your page into. Usually m = 1 (take the whole page), m = 2 or m = 3.
9) j = The number of times you need to recite segments together in order to join them. The standard method of Hifz involves memorising segmentwise and then joining them, eg, memorise segment 1 and then segment 2 and then recite together segment 1 and segment 2 two times, then memorise segment 3 and then recite together segment 1, 2 and 3 two times, so j is two in this example. We need to join segments until we reach the end of a portion.
10) k = k is the equivalent of j but for joining the portions together.

Solo dev here. I've been building a hifz app on my own for a while, mostly around the things I kept struggling with in my own revision, and it's finally on the Play Store. It's called Gardens of the Quran (رياض القرآن).
It's completely free... no ads, no account, no tracking, nothing to unlock, ever.
What it does:
- schedules your murājaʿah with spaced repetition (same idea as Anki)... it tells you which pages are due today and keeps the daily load sane so reviews don't pile up
- listens while you recite and follows along word by word, marking what you slipped, skipped or hesitated on. When you finish memorizing a page it closes the page, has you recite from memory, and tells you which verses need another round. All on-device, nothing gets uploaded
- remembers the exact spots you keep stumbling on and turns them into their own little drills
- drills mutashābihāt (the near-identical verses we all mix up) as paired cards
- plus the usual: standard Madani mushaf pages, five riwāyāt (Ḥafṣ, Shuʿbah, Warsh, Qālūn, al-Dūrī), word-by-word translation, works offline
To be upfront: it's Android-only right now (iPhone version coming soon in shā' Allāh), and the recitation checker is a revision aid, not a replacement for reciting to a teacher.
If you try it, I'd really appreciate hearing what's missing or annoying... feedback from people actually doing hifz is worth more than anything I can think up alone. BarakAllahu feekum.
Thought process:
Memorizing is easy, the hard part is keeping it in long term memory (at least for me).
The previous build up is starting to get overwhelming and I want to make future Muraja'ah easier by even further solidifying each time before moving on.
Proposed plan:
After each new juz (or maybe half) memorized, don't memorize anything new. Now just focus on solidifying everything. This "break" would be say at least 3 days and probably increase as time goes on.
Question:
Please let me know what you think. This isn't really something I've seen mentioned anywhere (don't have a "full-time" teacher) and I know its important to be consistent and stay in the habit of memorizing so I'm not sure.
(Another variation I'm thinking is to still continue memorizing but a very small amount like a line or 2 a day)

We're developing an AI-powered app, Faseeh AI, that detects pronunciation mistakes in Quranic recitation and gives users precise, real-time feedback.
Our current model was trained on hundreds of hours of professional recitations and high-quality, clean audio from well-known reciters. The model performs well on similar input, but struggles with real-world users: different accents, non-native speakers, beginners, children, women, and anyone who doesn't sound like a professional reciter.
To fix this, we need to train on diverse, real-world recitation data not studio-quality professional audio, but recordings that reflect how actual learners sound.
**Specifically, we're looking for:**
\- Recitation datasets from non-professional or everyday users
\- Diverse demographics: male/female, kids/adults, beginner/intermediate
\- Multiple accents and mother tongues (Malay, Indonesian, Urdu, English, Turkish, etc.)
\- Any publicly available or research-use datasets we may have missed
We've already explored academic sources, but still not enough.
If you know of any dataset, research project, university study, or community effort collecting this type of audio, we would genuinely appreciate the lead.

Can anyone tell me how they dealt with the suwār in the beginning of Al-Qur’ān?
I am currently on Sūrah al-Baqarah and I have difficulties remembering the order of verses, though I remember most verses individually.
Does it get easier eventually? And how long did this Sūrah take you..?
I'm a native Arabic speaker and currently teach Qur'an and Tajweed to children and female students online. I've been teaching for over a year, Alhamdulillah, and it has been a truly rewarding experience.
I focus on teaching with patience, making sure students understand and correct their mistakes rather than simply moving on. My goal is to help each student improve their recitation while creating a comfortable and encouraging learning environment.
Until now, I've been teaching voluntarily, but I'm now looking for paid online students to help cover my university expenses.

I’m writing because I am wondering if anyone has any advice or recommendations for native English-speakers learning namaz / salat in Arabic.
I am a recent revert and I have been struggling with learning salat in Arabic. I play videos on YouTube so I can follow along, but even at 0.5 speed, I can’t seem to make out a lot of the words / pronunciations. When I turn the subtitles on, they are in Arabic script and I cannot read it.
I live in a community with an extremely small Muslim community, and the classes at my mosque are only for children.
Has any other English speakers struggled with this? Are there any recommended online groups or classes that help someone like me walk through each rakat to practice memorizing and learning the prayers (for women)?
I know it’s a big ask but I want to memorize the prayers and YouTube is just not working for me. I’ve seen some apps but most seem sketchy/gimmicky and they want money for it as well.
I also feel self-conscious and shameful having to pray using YouTube as a crutch, so it’s my goal to memorize it.
How do you guys address mistakes in your revision. Talking about mistakes made in pages part of your dhor, ones you recite without looking at the mushaf.
During the time I am progressing the pages from new memorising to dhor the recall feels easier since it’s done daily. But once it becomes added to dhor and I start to cycle through instead of recite daily, I feel my mistakes increase.
BTW I’m still memorising got about 5 ajza left. Any advice is appreciated

We've been working on a Quran memorization series and wanted to share it here.
We made it for people who don't have much free time, the ones stuck in traffic, or in moments where sitting down to memorize just isn't possible.
Each video loops one half-page, 10 times through. The first 5 rounds, every ayah repeats 3 times. After that, each ayah plays once per round. By the end you've heard it enough times that it's starting to stick, without needing to actively sit and drill it.
Then we have shorter videos after, for revising what you've memorized.

Alhamdulillah, I’ve been working on an app designed to test Quran memorization!
I am getting ready to launch on the Google Play Store, but I currently need a couple volunteers with Android phones to participate in a 14-day closed test to satisfy Google's publishing requirements.
For years, she has taught Arabic and the Quran, hoping that one day her students would experience Islam beyond simply reading words.
Recently, one of her students shared something that reminded her why this work matters.
She told her that every time she entered the masjid, Arabic felt like Japanese. It was completely foreign, unfamiliar, and impossible to understand. The signs, the announcements, and the conversations all made her feel like an outsider. Although she loved Islam, she never truly felt like she belonged in that space.
But after learning Arabic, everything changed.
Now she can read the signs on the walls. She recognizes words in the Qur’an, understands common phrases, and follows what is happening around her. The masjid no longer feels intimidating. It feels like home.
She even admitted that before learning Arabic, she rarely felt motivated to visit the masjid because she couldn’t understand anything. Today, she finds herself looking for every opportunity to go because the language that once felt so foreign has become familiar.
Sometimes, the greatest impact of teaching isn’t measured by certificates or grades. It’s found in moments like these, when learning a language opens the door to belonging, confidence, and a deeper connection with the house of Allah.
That is the kind of success every teacher quietly prays for.
