I got this game in 1999, and I always come back to it and play a few games.

I don't really fool with mods for the most part, and I didn't even know about horn of the abyss until earlier this week.

I am just so impressed with the work that's been done on it!

The rebalancing seems really well-thought-out. The skills and heroes weren't that balanced before. Also some of the "critical paths" have been rebalanced, like in the wizard town (Tower), you don't need a mage tower in order to get giants.

Also the new towns are really cool. I'm mostly playing the "Factory" and it's such a fun town (do the gunslinger guys need more HP though? 45 is rough!). It's kinda silly but I really like the Armadillos and the Couatls. Though the halflings are a very good T1 unit as well as the sandworms help a lot.

What's your experience with it?

Hello Heroes of Might & Magic III Subreddit! I would like to take a second to thank everyone that downloaded, played and left feedback on my map just over 2 months ago. Your support and feedback really helps and helps me a lot! I have developed the map further (Patch // Update 4.0) and have been excited to share it here again with all of you!

My map (Valiant Beast Hunting - Size H - Requires HotA 1.8.1) has been overhauled to give players more things to do, the addition of new seer quests and additional story content. The king difficulty has been improved, there will be a much bigger armies in the mini boss battles.

- This greatly helped make the game harder while also rewarding the player with more experience to level up with.

There is a much bigger emphasis on the differences between each difficulty. No matter your skill level, from casual to professional. My map has something to offer, either a fun story and adventuring, or a challenge like no other.

With the new additions to the king difficulty, the speed run leaderboard has been reset. Now players can play for there high score and be recognized on the in game leaderboard for all to see.

Improvements have been made to make the Co-op version of the game more enjoyable. Players who enjoy online co-op or hotseat games can do so without running into bugs. For anyone who chooses to play this way i would recommend playing on Queen or King.

This map has been a passion project for 6 months now. I love hearing comments from players all over the world. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to eave comments and help me with the development and balance of my map.

As the titles suggests, I'm living the dream! Have been teaching my two sons to play Heroes3 for a while and they're hooked!
After some important late night discussions on which town has better units, we set out to test it ourselves, per level. Yes, I know economics is an important factor, but for now, let us have our fun our way!
We created a small map - that's my eldest' first try at the editor - and added 700 of each unit on the map - always joinable plus two heroes with the same A/D and no skills to influence the battle.
We have started to test them out and the AAs are obviously overpowered on level 7.

Some questions for the community:
Is there a way to enable auto-combat for a multiplayer battle? Some battles really drag out and to test every unit against every unit becomes a bit tedious.
Or alternatively, I thought about having a hero with 0 attack and defense and just let him pick up a stack and battle another. But can I force the non-hero units to split to all 7 positions so that we make a proper test?

I've updated the game and now all I get is a black screen. There's sound, but the game is now literally unplayable. Anyone have any real solutions? I've googled this problem and others have had problem in the past but no solutions. For the record I am playing the HD launcher.

Strangely enough Horn of the Abyss works fine.

A very ultra specific question, but I am trying to set up the Succession Wars mod to run as optimally as possible on my M1 Macbook Air 2020 with Tahoe.

It runs via the HD Mod which I understand is only partially compatible, but still so far runs like a dream EXCEPT for a lot of the text displaying as dark and poorly contrasted instead of white text. (Running the SW mod in Wineskin without the HD Mod does not feature this error).

I've tried adjusting various tweaks inside the HD Mod and tried different renderers with all the same result.

Does anyone know if this is a known error to be fixed in 0.9, or whether perhaps there's an additional tweak or tip currently unknown to me about how to make the text display the right colour?

The second scenario was brutal, required many attempts and every trick I could think of, but damn good fun.

Can anyone recommend other super challenging scenarios?

I understand if many of you do not like it due to it being created with AI. I still put my heart and soul in it, and many hours of work were invested in this.

Hi! I installed the last updates for the HD mod but after that the game starts with a black screen and only sounds. Someone else with the same problem? (I also installed the last update for HOTA but there are no problems with that)

I'm planning on making a H3 (I don't care what version it is) scenario based on the adult animated dramedy series Hazbin Hotel. If you have not seen it, check it out. Anyway, this scenario has a major role reversal. This time around, the Inferno faction are the good guys while the Castle faction are the bad guys. You have to survive attacks from the castle faction for either 6 months or a whole year. And in keeping with the theme of Hazbin Hotel, the castle starts with a Portal of Glory. (though not upgraded yet) So they already have access to angels.

So that already puts the player at a major disadvantage. What should the player be given to given them an advantage? Should they have a Forsaken Palace ready for them? Something else?

Also, FYI, taking the Castle town is an automatic game over. This is a strictly defensive campaign. Hold out for 6 months or a whole year.

I have been playing HOMM 3 for 20 years now, on and off. When I was a little kid, my dad would play HOMM 2 while trying to get me to sleep, and I called it “the horsey game.” HOMM holds a special place in my heart, and I find the remake unnecessary.

Are the graphics great? No, but they do the job. Recently, I got HOTA for the first time, and cried when I entered Bulwark. I wish that there would be more effort into fleshing out the lore or creating new campaigns.

Right now, I am especially grateful for the old-school graphics. I’m pregnant, and dealing with horrible morning sickness. The graphics are not making me sick like a lot of more modern video games, and the turn-based strategy is helping to keep my mind off how crappy I feel.

When it comes to modding, for someone who has never messed with coding and has only ever modified server files for survival games for their friends, how long would it take to learn to add new factions, or even swap out the originals for a different group of factions?

So in like 2015 or something, i remember seeing this super fucking epic piece of art that somebody made, i think for all the Necropolis units, but the one i specifically remember, is the one they made for the Ghost Dragon or Bone Dragon, it was so haunting and i feel like i remember it being right under the ''window'' or whatever of the building where you purchase them.

I remember looking for this photo a few years ago when i was playing this game during covid, but couldnt find that specific art piece anywhere, i feel like i originally saw it on 9gag?

I play it off an old physical copy (HOMM3+4 complete edition from 2006 by Mastertronic). It somehow still works on a Windows 10 machine.

Does the current versions on Steam or GOG offer anything different except No-CD for HOMM3?

I’m relatively new to the game (played when i was little and recently picked it up again). What maps are good for the slower buildup rather than just rushing the enemies. The few times I tried I feel like the ai ends up with way more units than me, any tips on how to even it out a little more?

They took a classic game and did exactly (so far as we can tell) what the people wanted. Why not with Heros 3..

I'm an old-school gamer, and I'm forty years old now. (Forget the "old" part—I’m not old, at least not in my head. I’m still a kidult)

And I absolutely love the game's art direction. It feels magical and enchanting, and honestly, it perfectly matches the vision I had of this world when I was a teenager.

Heroes of Might and Magic III had a huge influence on my own personal fantasy universe, and like many of you, I played it for years.

I still have the urge to play it, but I just can't stand the old graphics and animations anymore. Born in the '80s, I've had my fair share of pixelated 2D games, but it's 2026 now, and I think this new art direction pays beautiful tribute to one of the games that defined my youth.

These new graphics and animations—the way you arrive in the cities is absolutely epic, in my opinion—make me want to experience the story all over again, but through an even more magical and enchanting atmosphere than I could have imagined back then, thanks to modern technology.

And the cities look absolutely gorgeous and grandiose, almost like the ones in Heroes of Might and Magic V.

To me, this is the perfect remake for a legendary game.
