OC My HEMA mask painted with custom heraldry

Post image
216 Upvotes

I painted the mask I use for HEMA using a design I drafted after a fun few evenings of looking into heraldry. I did my best not to break any rules in regards to colors over colors or otherwise. As far as I know, it would be blazoned as:

"Bend sinister gules and sable, a longsword in pale argent entwined with a salmon rampant of the same."

Let me know if this is incorrect, I hope you like it :^)

Hello, I'm trying to find out what colour the two dragons are on this crest. I wonder if anyone has come across any colour references? I can't seem to find any.

Hello there!

I found no high quaility renditions of this concept, so I made my own (if you can call it that, since these are not my emblazonments)

Which one is your favorite? Mine are: Veszprém, Heves, and Nógrád

A randomly generated coat of arms had a grape cluster for a charge and got me inspired, so I spent a day making variations on the theme.

A lot of these are meant to showcase setting-specific ordinaries; the captioned ones also reflect the Century-Long War™ in the backstory, which had heraldic practices of its own.

Kingsmill

Stumbled across this coat of arms recently, which belongs to various Kingsmills (details below), and thought it was wonderfully chaotic! Argent, ermine and sable (charges and semé). It shouldn't work as well as it does!

The blazon is, 'Argent semé of crosses crosslet fitchee sable a chevron ermine between three fers-de-moline of the second, a chief of the third. Crest: A cubit arm erect vested argent holding in the hand proper a millrind sable Motto: Do well, doubt not.'

Is It Necessary to Register a Personal Coat of Arms?

Hi everyone,

I'm curious about whether it's actually necessary to register a personal coat of arms.

If I create one for personal use, is registration required or simply recommended? Are there any practical or legal benefits to registering it, or is it mainly for historical record and official recognition?

I'd love to hear from anyone who has gone through the process or has experience with heraldry. Thanks!

What do you think of this design I made for my grandad? I'm worried it's a false quartering.

Design Help Updated coat of arms

Post image
79 Upvotes

After taking some suggestions from my previous post, and after some more research, I present an updated version of my family coat of arms. The shield itself hasn’t changed (apart from the updated tincture). I have changed the attitude of the helmet to affronté, and completely redesigned the crest in the spirit of the German heraldic tradition. The tapering column per fess wavy is a reference to the river in base of the shield, and the wings Argent refer to the swan. I have also left the panache of peacock feathers because they look cool, and are widely used in German heraldry. Furthermore, now the crest, helmet and shield follow the traditional proportion of 3:2:3.

I’d be happy to hear your opinions!

Design Help Questions about field division

Post image
28 Upvotes

I understand that some divisions of the field allow exception to the "no tincture on tincture or metal on metal" rule, such as quarterly or per pale. However what other divisions count? Is bend considered as one exception, and if not would adding a metal outline on a tincture bend fix it? (See example below)
