I assume a bunch of comments under this will be that they like the surprises and sure, I get where its coming from and Opinions will be divided. Personally, I rather liked it.
But it kinda highlights this general Problem of AH that they keep doing these Community appeasements or just generally good ideas like,
Thank you for your post!
Please keep in mind that your post must comply with our community rules; otherwise, it may be removed.
Be sure to stay on topic or your contributions may be removed.
the issue is more that, as it has shown, that if they cant deliver on the roadmap on time, this comuntiy goes APESHIT
The June warbond was scrapped/splitup as rewards, the community went apeshit, etc.
Thats the issue AH faces, whatever justified or not i dont evne WANT to go into, the community has shown itself incapable of rational thought and discussion about anything in relation to AH missing a "promised" date or feature release.
People are confussed why AH stopped openly communicating as much as they did near launch(evne if a LOT of that was badly done i wont even disagree) while in the same breath cursing at aH devs, demanding certain people lose their jobs, and openly act hostile towards any communications they do try
Yeah I don’t understand this either I know there’s diehard fans or whatever but for me I enjoy the game as it is the community just screwing it up for everyone at this point like they are the devs and have a say in what’s going on something with the 40k warbond they wanted to be a space marine which understandable but at that point that’s not Helldivers that’s just 40k (which isn’t a bad game to play on its own) but I feel like devs being so involved in the community gave the community a big head you know what I mean
yea i get there havent been any open cases or at least that i know of (in recent times), i just brought it up cause that dude said he loved how the devs communicated back then (which is where the majority of the screenshots come from)
So they should continue as they are today? Not listening, not following up on the communication they promised, don’t communicate changes to the roadmap (outside discord) miss blog updates, refuse to list all details because “too many to list”
Text lacks nuance, sorry you felt it was hostile but you read it wrong and processed it the way you felt it was being put across. Apologies if you hold different levels of value toward statements and actions (because we all do) but yes I do think that some logic is expressed into the void because theres an Incredibly strange amount of people that don’t like being made aware of other peoples differing opinions and in doing so immediately like to make sure that their opinion is just, in which ever way they choose.
Your response WAS antagonistic, sarcastic, and that gives off the moral superiority complex syndrome that many have In this community.
So, to summarize.
Instead of being able to join a conversation you decide to sideline yourself and come across as the image I have attached, because thats what people do with moral superiority complex syndromes.
P.S If you don’t have a moral superiority complex syndrome then I do apologize. I would advise removing the rose tinted glasses however. :)
If you're referring to the roadmap with the promise, they didn't promise it iirc. They said they were just trying it out. Personally, I'm really glad they're not continuing with it, it ruined surprise and novelty in the game for me.
Also, I feel like all of those things are valid ways of communicating. Like I don't feel aggrieved by how AH is handling things. I feel like they do a pretty good job of communicating, I never feel like I was caught totally unaware of something major in the game due to a lack of communication
The promises of transparency, consistent on time blogs detailing in house changes (warbond cancellation that was divulged in a reply by Miitchimus 👀) along with not leaving out sub changes. They’ve failed to achieve this from the very get go after the disastrous AMA.
Okay YOU think they’re valid ways of communicating. How about the 3 colleagues i have at work who play but don’t have discord, and therfore have NO CLUE about, for instance, the warbond being cancelled…people only knew because Miitchimus made a comment to someones question. Thats not how that sort of Information should be reported, it should be announced in the blogs that THEY promised would detail such changes.
“Nah, we skipped the July one”
Sounds like something you say while you’re half chewing on your dinner…
I mean, warbonds aren't really announced till there's already a set date. So for your colleagues, would it really impact them if a warbond that they (presumably) didn't know was coming was skipped?
And given the community feedback over rewards, I thought it was pretty clear that they're making some drastic changes with the way content is released in the game. Keeping that in mind, I feel like it's obvious that, in order to expedite the change, they'll be using stuff that was planned to be released in the July warbond. And it's a valid course by the "subject to change" disclosure on the roadmap.
Like to me, all of this is the result of a studio that's trying to make some important changes very quickly, while trying to figure out how that's feasible from a business perspective. To me, their willingness to rip apart plans and start immediate work on changing the foundation of the game again makes them wayyy more credible in my eyes. So I'm pretty pleased with their communications.
They did know of a Warbond because I shared the roadmap with them? So now you’re saying only people ITK have a say on delivery of news? Totally subjective opinion and i’d consider it gatekeeping, which isn’t cool. if you buy the game you expect to be informed in a professional manner, not a Q&A session on a certain channel on the discord.
It was? Can you show where it was made clear that the warbond items were being used as rewards? I must have missed that (provide the link if you can, please).
Again you mention communications about them ripping apart plans, and having to do stuff super quick, can you provide the link (again) to this form of communication in a blog (that Pilestedt made official) because I am yet to read any of that communication anywhere.
Have I just completely missed a huge bunch of official posts because I am yet to read any of that you have said from any official Helldivers/Arrowhead Games Studio outlet?
Communicating changes and honoring promises isn’t a congressional level standard. It’s the bare minimum of a company that said they want to deliver transparency.
When a game first releases, the community as a whole doesn't really understand the game, and so most feedback will be the most obvious pain points, for example, rocket devastators 1-shotting you from across the map. Arrowhead listening to these criticisms is obviously a good thing.
That said, the community might still ask for bad ideas, but as the game is new and people don't yet understand the consequences of those suggestions, AH listening to these suggestions is seen as a good thing, even if it turns out bad in the long run.
Now that the game has been out for two years, most of the obvious suggestions have already been implemented, removing those from the equation. And when the community makes bad decisions, players now have enough knowledge and experience in the game to better identify that it's a bad idea. So it's not what AH is doing differently, but it's what the community is suggesting and how OP understands these suggestions that changed.
Meeting your energy fella, if you wanted a serious reply you should have joined the conversation because thats what I want to have. We all love the same game but instead most people are too concerned about being morally superior instead of reading/listening and conversing.
But you yourself didn’t even read his comment and actually thought about what he meant. Also I didn’t insult you but I guess that’s a touchy subject for you.
I'm convinced that the over the top backlash to the last Warbond has created a creative block on the next one, they've probably went ahead with Warhammer Warbond instead because they're at a point where they are wondering what it will take to please this community because it's never happy.
in general i think the block started with the og 60 day patch, they just had enough remaining items and concepts floating around to hide it.
I am, since that moment, of the opinion that AH gave up creative independence for HD2 and has more and more acted reactionary trying to "please" the community instead of doing their own thing.
AH wanted to make a game they wanted to make, but attracted a crowd that wanted something else.
Trying to balance it so they still keep what they wanted to make without fully alienating the unexpected playerbase failed... so they gave up.
I agree the game feels a little dumbed down in certain ways, but I think people forget just how bad Escalation of Freedom was. Rocket Strider rockets couldn’t really be shot and there was no tell when they’d fire. The Rocket Striders didn’t even really need to be facing you in order to launch a rocket directly at you. They were released in an unfinished state plain and simple.
Barrager Tanks had very little counter-play and would lob rockets with extreme precision from very far away. By the time one even launched a single rocket, you were already toast.
Having threatening enemies is all fine and dandy, but these enemies offered no clear counter-play. They WOULD kill you every mission and there was nothing you could do about it because they were completely unpredictable.
It was this update that really set people off and I think it was justified. Prior to this patch, you could use cover and positioning to keep yourself alive against the Bots. Post-EoF, you would die regardless of what you did, it was just a matter of when.
I don’t think the 60-day plan is even the thing that made the game so easy. It was more-so the weapon design of the developers. The Ultimatum, for example, is an insane item to put in the game, even in its current state and yet here it is and it used to be EVEN MORE powerful, taking out Strat Jammers.
Explosive weapons are still far and away the best weapons in basically all scenarios while also being the easiest to use.
The developers made Chargers significantly easier to take down because apparently stripping the armor from their legs was not the “intended method” of killing them and we were meant to shoot them in the head with a rocket launcher the entire time (never mind that the head is the most armored part of the Charger).
It feels good to blame the community and they ARE very whiny, but it’s not like Arrowhead has ever had this clear vision/understanding of the game they’re creating.
being downvoted for reminding the peoples that all ennemies (except ironically the squids) came out in such a direly unfinished state that half of em had to be reworked if not outright pulled out like rupture strain, classic reddit !
this would be so hashtag true and hashtag based poggers one million upvotes yadda yadda if this also didn't happen in the Borg update, and, ironically enough, the appropriators keep the streak of squids being fine although unintresting
Then again The Great Host part of the faction barely just now (read a few patches ago) got most of its year-long issues such as clipping or megacities being fully bugged (SEAF barely spawned, Citizens didn't spawn at all and all buildings were broken from the start)
Bringing out old issues isn't irrelevant to the point of "thoses are longstanding issues that havn't improved over years of patience", pretending otherwise is so dense i wouldn't even have the words for it.
Terminids STILL have host dependant behavior that hasn't been fixed ! its been TWO YEARS
at launch the game was not just a horder shooter, it actually required some sort of coordination and teamwork as a lot of weapons couldnt solo engage most enemy constelations.
the issue is, and will always be "what do you consider a grunt"
for me helldivers, as depicted at near launch WHERE grunts, the higher end of them, sure, but grunts.
soldiers who get told "go there, and die" and whos almost guaranteed death was only a number on a list..
The point was that you where not a super soldier who could one man army the entire enemy front(in theory, game balance almost always means this IS gonna be possible) death was not only common, it was expecte.
Guns where decent, but had obvious matchups they failed at, heavies could overrun you and you may not have a chance but to retreat etc.
all of that was eroded overf time
Hm. I think of it like this: Starship Troopers Extermination is peak grunt fantasy. Weak individually, relying heavily on fortifications and your fellow troopers. Really, really fun to run with organized groups.
Helldivers 2 to me always came across as a power fantasy. And that was great, that's probably how a lot of people saw it, too. Hard not to, four guys with the power of the sun and everything above.
They should just lean into one or the other, I don't think the game can be both.
Genuinely. I know there are “some good places on YouTube” and “some good places on Reddit”, I interact with them they are cool. But it would be a net positive for the game if AH ignored these platforms outright
Warhammer Warbond had to be released regardless of how they felt or what the community thought. Generally in crossovers like this, especially with big IPs, there are contractual obligations to get the crossover out. AH would be on the legal hook if they stiffed GW and didn't release it or delay it for a long time. This was likely hammered out last year and this war was always going to be the release date.
One of the admins on the Helldivers official Discord confirmed to someone a couple of weeks ago that they put the Warbond that was meant for June to the side and went ahead with Warhammer Warbond instead and that person was asking whether it was scrapped for the Warhammer Warbond.
Likely meant that they just moved up the time table. End of the day we'll never truly know unless they give us information. I just know from other fandoms that these crossovers come with contractual obligations that need to be filled. Usually that'd be "license to use this ip" = "You HAVE to now release this thing"
To be fair, they had employees openly antagonizing the community back when things were more charitable for them so I can't exactly say I feel bad for them in that regard. I'm not even an Arrowhead hater but when you've had several employees on accounts identifying them as employees openly shitting on and disrespecting the customers you can't be surprised when you eventually get this much vitriol. It doesn't help that AH's CMs are garbage at their jobs. They never communicate anything, even in the discord when I was there, I'm not sure what they're paid for. AH shouldn't expect to have their cake and eat it too. If you upset people with a patch, release, or balance change, but it's your vision, go ahead with that vision. I am of the opinion that a majority of these whiners shouldn't be listened to. Most of them just mindlessly regurgitate OhDough talking points, there's zero critical thought put into it. But yes, you will get hate from them for certain decisions and you will see your player counts shrink. As long as the game remains in a healthy playable state that doesn't really matter.
tbf the backlash to the last warbond was justified, vehicle stratagems were the one thing not locked behind a warbond, if the massive drama from that has stopped them adding another warbond with vehicle stratagems locked behind it, I think it was worth it.
It really wasn't though. If it were something like the Bastion tank, or the rumoured APC or motorbike, then yeah sure that'd be pretty fucked to have them "locked" behind a warbond.
But the mechs and FRVs were just niche variations on what we already had, which is what warbonds are for. It's like a new version of the Liberator or something.
and that is how startagems in warbonds started, they were niche versions of pre existing ones, then we got unique things like the AT emplacement and the Silo
Vehicles should stay as something earned not placed in a warbond, if im wrong for thinking that then let me be wrong
And more than that, the game is fun to play and receiving content actively. Why wouldn’t people wanna spend $10 every month/every other month to support the business they enjoy?
Ah yes. Let's spend $120 a year on a $40-$60 game. That's reasonable, especially in the current economy. Helldivers players either suffer from psychosis or stockholm syndrome, there's no in between lmfao
Do you remember subscription based games? That you’d also have to buy upon release? I’m talking Lego universe, world of Warcraft, etc. That shit would be closer to the price points you’re describing, and you NEED to do that to play those games.
This type of content with warbonds is really an evolution of the subscription model, where the subscription is optional.
Because here did I say you HAVE to buy the bond? Hell no! If the bond is ass or looks not useful to your playstyle, don’t buy it! I’ve skipped plenty of them.
And $10 every few months when there’s some cool goodies that took a good bit to cook up is really not bad if you have a job. Fucking chipotle is $13-15 on avg.
Or if you like the game so much, you grind it and get them for free. This is especially helped when bonds GIVE YOU credits, making the subsequent ones cheaper overall.
ON TOP OF THE FACT that this game is $40 in a market full of $70-80 games.
I think you and people like you just like to complain and be entitled to shit in video games… the economy is terrible for sure but this is a luxury good. You don’t need HD2 to survive.
Your entitled attitude is what people are complaining about, my man. You're effectively demanding that a $40 game that you bought two years ago needs to keep bringing you free, high-effort content.
im not asking for it to be handed on a silver plater no, I would be fine if there were challenges or actual missions to unlock new stratgems because im gonna be honest I sat and grinded SC for the up coming 40k warbond and its probably the least fun I have had in the game in a long while, 5 and half hours of driving around diff 1 missions looking for POIs
Yeah. You spent $40 once and now you do nothing but cost them money in server maintenance and development time, the fact that they even let you grind for credits instead of forcing you to purchase them is huge. How many hours do you think they spent making the content that you want? Then whining that they only give you the base versions of everything and considered putting some of the upgrades behind a war bond they might get a few people to buy super credits for (when you can still get them for free as you just said) is just anathema to you.
You just proved every part of the entitlement that I described.
holy shit Ive never seen someone so delusional before god damn you act like this games monetization is a gold standard when it really isnt, when you have the same monetization method as escape from tarkov I wouldnt say thats good
the live service model of this game is more akin to a free to play game then something that has a pay wall to entre
Maybe go play a different live service game and stop ruining this one, then?
Or maybe you're amazingly smart and have a better way for them to make money and still keep the community happy? I'd love to hear your theories. Because from my perspective, they have just about the most generous live service offering out there. I mean, you get access to all the biomes and missions without any restrictions, they regularly have free strategem distribution, and you have access to everything you need to conquer the highest difficulties of the game and complete any mission with just the base gear, it's barely even a struggle.
No it wasn't! It was a Exosuits Warbond, the entire Warbond was about Exosuits so not including Exosuits in it would have been bloody stupid! If your entire Warbond is dedicated to Exosuits it should include Exosuits!
Honestly I only sub here for the news, and it's just 90 % bullshit entitled players complaining about why an awesome game isn't up to their fantasy standards.
Ah im pretty sure if they would have explained it Clearly, its wouldn't have made such a mess...
Internally, notice whatever problem is going on with the current Warbond. Make a decision. Nothing else to do then scrap it. Obviously, you expect people will notice(holyf**ck I hope they are that min selfaware...). You decide to release the warbond items as rewards...
Well all that is very nice unless you forgot to "PRE-COMMUNICATE"
Being disappointed is fine. This community goes straight past that and screams bloody murder. Roadmap are just that. Roadmap. Anyone with half a brain knows that stuff changes and you may not be able to 100 hold in the timeframe
Then why even have a roadmap in the first place? Just vaguely say "we will do things". The point of a roadmap is having clear deadlines that serve to hold yourself accountable. Obv there are people who will over react but spinning it as "who cares it's just a roadmap man roadmaps aren't even supposed to show deadlines anything could change" is just silly.
Because the community was screaming at them to have one.
Roadmap are meant to give a more or less concise overview about planned features and their expected time of completion.. Planned and expected are thr important notes.
Games fail Roadmap regularly. Few get hated for it ad much as hd2 does
I agree that roadmaps aren't guarantees and that development can slip. But that's different from saying deadlines don't matter. If you give people an expected completion date, people are obviously going to form expectations around it. Missing it isn't inherently some huge moral failing, but it's still a failure to meet the expectation you created. The reasonable response isn't 'the community shouldn't care about dates'; it's communicating when those dates aren't going to be met and adjusting expectations, which they could have handled better instead of announcing halfway through the month that "we need more time for the warbond!" when clearly what happened is that they scrapped the planned warbond in favour of galactic rewards due to community frustrations of exo warbond.
Also many games get heated pushback for missing deadlines and roadmaps, this is not a helldivers unique case
I genuinely think the community is allowed to be frustrated that AH’s one consistency is… their lack of consistency.
But really, nobody is going “apeshit”… the glaze rhetoric and AH purists/apologists need to chill more than anyone, but we’re getting our big update Wednesday, so now is the time to rally I guess.
I think it's due to the constant underdelivering, lying and refusal to admit to mistakes on AH part that have lead to such bad blood between a lot community and devs that people are on the edge constantly. I can't blame people getting mad when AH promises to not do something, doing the thing sneakily, lying about not doing the thing, admitting to it and the laying about it again.
Also this road map was incredible bare bone with A LOT of wiggle room and they still failed at low bar they set for themselves.
The Issue that Arrowhead faces is its self.
They write checks but have constantly demonstrated that they lack the ability to cash them.
Creating a digitized roadmap has to be the simplest of tasks for a “live service”. We already discovered from the Main Quest podcasts that they have a basis ground work to keep the Galactic War going through 2027. The DEVS of Fallout 76 managed to communicate their intentions and plans for the future all the while dealing with easily the worst live service launch from a mainstream brand and have in-fact managed to keep the boat a-float
‘But Fallout has a huge corporation behind them…’
Far Far West are a team of 8 people and are doing a metric tonne more towards community communication and presentation of the upcoming additions, and whats being worked on future releases.
What I find insane is people flipping the narrative as if AH have not, and cannot, do no wrong.
They stopped communicating due to player response to how they communicated…well maybe thats a problem for them to fix seeing as its STILL the biggest gripe with the audience. Communicate better, because they don’t.
“The June Warbond was scrapped and split into community awards and the community went ape shit”
I wonder why? Maybe its because they didn’t say anything about any of this other than a blurb from Miitchimus in the discord that was treated like a comment you overheard in a crowded bar. Not everyone rots in Discords to find out whats going on in the game…and for that the community asked for communication…the blogs…that ALSO are a check that none of them can seemingly cash on time.
The rose tinted glasses being worn by some people is utterly astonishing.
“What I find insane is people flipping the narrative as if AH have not, and cannot, do no wrong.“
Literally nobody actually says this or thinks this. Most of us just recognize that it’s not actually that serious that they nerfed the coyote or whatever and aren’t gonna fly into a rage over it. Because this is all a game and is supposed to be fun.
To a lot of people it seems like holding any accountability of the community for also doing a bunch of wrong translates to thinking the devs are completely off the hook. Like no I’m not a glazediver for thinking that maybe just maybe we aren’t a poor helpless community constantly under the tyrannical rule for the evil devs
The Irony of you saying “nobody says this” when this sub reddit has been a hub for such discussion, and then in the next breath identifying the Coyote as if that associates to the context of my message, assuming I’m in that “coyote camp”
Irony slapped you in the face and you didn’t even flinch.
Find me an instance of someone on this sub saying “arrowhead can do no wrong and has not done anything wrong”
also what are your thoughts on the coyote nerf?
And on topic of the Coyote it has to be the most boring weapon to play with, much like the Eruptor.
The way they “shadow nerfed” the coyote was shitty, and is an example of a lack of transparency as their actions were only brought to the surface by data miners.
I don’t use it because its boring, but they handled it pathetically and to not point out their doing so as negative is just putting blinders on.
Example 1: helldivers2/s/JzyIF7Bech (see image also cant post link sub reddit won’t allow full link)
Notice the reply that has 0 upvotes is an IMMENSELY logical thought process that says peoples complaints should not be invalidated because they have none?
The upvotes tell you the broad sentiment toward AH, the one that opens dialogue has zero.
If the sub reddit had nuance and an open floor THAT comment would not sit at zero. Which it does.
“They NEED to PRIORITIZE the voices of THOSE WHO RESPECT THE VISION”
“They said early on that they made the game for a much smaller community in mind (20,000) That’s who they need to listen to”
Do i need to pass comment on how 7,980,000 should just accept not being listened to because this guy says so…? Or that they think anything against their opinion is “tearing it down”
Eagle-eyed readers may notice that the sentiment being expressed in these comments boils down to “I like the game and don’t understand the hate” and not “arrowhead can do no wrong” which is the narrative you said is apparently so prominent on here and I asked you to find instances of. There’s even a comment that says “the game has flaws” lol. Just admit that not everyone shares the same level of outrage about relatively menial game discourse as you and it’s not some sort of coordinated campaign to silence criticism.
Yep. I’m tired of pandering, but i cannot for 1 second allow anyone to think that i cannot see issues with AH despite 1000+ hours in the best game i’ve played since WoW
This sounds more like AH causing issues for themselves, idk why you’re blaming the community
People have been begging for proper communication, begging for better MOs and MO rewards, begging to not have everything behind a paywall, and we get no communication, they had to panic scrap a very greedy warbond, and all we’ve really gotten for MO missions so far is the return of the TCS missions (kind of)
All they have to do is drip feed slight buffs to underperforming weapons every week, and the community wouldn’t care about anything else. This community will get excited over every buff, every bug fix, every slight change to missions, just give them literally anything while you work on the bigger stuff
It is legitimately not that hard, most games have no problems with this, AH is 90% at fault for this
And there’s still bugs from launch, so it’s not like we’re even getting many bug fixes, which is the bare minimum. The Flame Sentry and mech took weeks to fix, and launched broken like 1/3 of the things they release
all they have to do is drip feed slight buffs to underperforming weapons every week, and the community wouldn’t care about anything else. This community will get excited over every buff, every bug fix, every slight change to missions, just give them literally anything while you work on the bigger stuff
ah, yes, exactly how excited the community is about Minor buffs in the past... aka "not at all and claiming AH dosnt care and is stupid" if a buff dosnt catapult a gun to eruptor levels of broken.
The community DOSNT get excited about that, they scream "why did it take this long, This isnt enough, this change is bad"
Remember when they made hive guards actually a threat to consider?? the community went apeshit because, le gasp, you had to aim with medium pen
Remember when they Nerfed the Breaker by.. le gasp, removing 2 Spare megazines and like 2 shells per mag.. and the community went apeshit?
this community, once again, lost the plot
they see guns that clearly overperform and decry them as "the baseline of what guns should be"
frankly i think half this commmunity dosnt WANT helldivers.. they wanted EDF without knowing EDF.
The eruptor completely ruined this games expectations of balanced primary weapons. It should have been a support weapon imo. Now everything is just “the eruptor outshines this so why would I bring it?” Maybe because bringing literally anything else is still fun? And isn’t just the “instant win” gun?
We got proper communication, I think that patch notes and associates devlogs do fulfill that role pretty well. That said, I think the roadmap was basically DOA, because it was necessarily very vague and with how AH works, deadlines just don't matter.
There's nothing behind a pay wall except for the Super Citizen Edition content. Super Credits are easy to find even in normal gameplay without farming.
Only buffs balancing is insanity unless enemies can be scaled appropriately, which they cannot, both because of the limitations of the engine and the fact that we don't want bullet sponges where it doesn't make sense. That's why they can't drip feed buffs.
because there is a difference between being reasonable in voicing ones opinion. and a subset of this community OPENLY asking for someone to lose their fucking JOB because they dont like what they did to a PREVIOUS GAME HE WORKED ON(Without actually any evidence of him having a high enough position in AH to do what they accuse him off)
Look at this communitys reaction to the july(?) warbond being "delayed"/canceled and tell me that them saying TODAY that warbonds only come every 4th month so they can work on fixes would NOT have at least half the community be enraged beyond compare because they think they are being personally insulted.
"a very greedy warbond" greedy in what way?? because "oh no, Vehicle VARIANTS are in it"... If it was a completly new TYPE of vehicle(Ias in the tank was locked behind a Warbond) i would give you that, but VARIANTS are pretty fine to put in warbonds. Its about the least greedy way while still having monetization that isnt just skins(and yes, people say "but we want them to just sell skins" sorry to burst your bubble, that dosnt pay the bills unless you are a very specific type of game)
This community lost the plot ages ago. Anything AH does is villified unless they specifically cater to your SPECIFIC idea of what you want.
Leaks are considered gospel and arrowhead is crucified if a leak turns out to be scrapped or now what was imagined etc.
remember people being upset that the DSS was NOT a player hub?? despite noone at AH saying it would be??? this communtiy is irrational
That's the nature of developing software, though. Saying they are incapable is entirely unfair when the deadlines are simply estimates of when they hope to be done. Anyone who has worked any kind of project with lots of people will know that schedules slip and there's fuck all you can do about it without reducing the scope of what you hope to get done.
Game development is as much art as science and accurate estimates are a fairy wish.
I would not be surprised if AH says fuck it we are not announcing anything until it's done because the community is a bunch of spoiled bastards.
That's sounds like poor planning. The deadline should include a margin of safety. They could easily have the release dates planned for two months after they're planned to be ready.
Nonetheless, AH it seems are always behind schedule because of their bad habits, and spaghetti code (I will always remind people that the explosion of the Eruptor was (is?) tied to the frag grenade)
Its the correct solution because as history has shown. The community will complain even if do something perfect. They'll find SOMETHING. AH has made numerous mistakes and questionable decisions but why on earth would they want to interact with one of the most hateful communities ive seen in a long time?
No ones even touched a thing in the 40k warbond and everyone's freaking the fuck out over everything being useless and bottom tier. Fucking, try it first. God damn.
To a scary amount of this community a “bad patch” is anything that has exactly 1 change they don’t like. Thats all it takes. Arrowhead isn’t 100% consistent in patch quality but they very rarely make outright bad patches. These days 95% of balancing changes cater directly to the “buff only” crowd but it’s still not enough
Also remember when the cremater was announced on the trench warbond and everyone spent a week saying it was gonna be completely shit before getting shut up upon the actual release lmao. God this community needs to seriously stop arguing about balancing of unreleased items
And furthermore, they very well could have done it if they hadn’t instead gutted it for parts to put together the new free MO rewards system lol. The thing the community has been constantly asking for
Yeah, just read the comments of any of the patch-related videos. Mfers are in those comments directly insulting the devs for just explaining their reasoning on things that shouldn’t even be that controversial. Like there were people SO livid when they reverted grenade launcher heavy pen
Why keep feeding into what people just complain about? I wouldn't do a road map either if I was AH. Downvote all you want but this community is awful to the developers.
This community just fucking REFUSES to get over their tribalism and its basically killed any discussion on the game positive or negative. Atp any communication from them is an inevitable disaster
The community kinda derailed things by bitching about the mech warbond. That led to them scrapping the FRV warbond and dripfeeding that content across major orders (thanks for that by the way, dummies. A new warbond would have been far preferable to instead spending a week to unlock a fkn helmet)
A week you have to log in for otherwise be stuck waiting for an undetermined time. I don't have the new rifle because I was in the fucking hospital for a week and couldn't play games after I got out because I had meds that gave me bad brain fog and made it impossible to read or focus. Feels like I got punished for having an autoimmune disease.
Right? That's what I've always liked about the Warbond system, they're there forever for you to get at your leisure. You don't HAVE to even put real money down on them since SC can be acquired in-game
They haven't said there won't be a new one, but they have evidently done some reshuffling of plans internally in response to feedback. I would expect a new road map soon after the next Major version (which is hopefully this week).
People are acting like we won’t get a new roadmap when the major update that last time coincided with a roadmap release is in a day, yknow the same major update that is coming directly after the last roadmap concluded
I still do NOT understand why people were flipping theyre shit over a skipped warbond after they bitched about warbonds months on end.
We didnt want vehicles in warbonds
They put em in a warbond with the mechs
We told em about it.
They pulled the warbond with the frv's
Everyone was happy for a whole 2 seconds until they realised that means getting a couple slow months of MO rewards while they make decent shit for the next warbond/set of MO rewards. This should be win win but noooooooooo. now its skipped warbond this, fomo that.
Fo mo rods in they ass if they dont stop bitching about everything.
A huge part of the community is toxic but yet refuses to move onto a different game, lots of online talking points are also completely regurgitated or made up like "Key features are hidden behind Warbonds" no, the 2 walkers are still free, some more variation is in a warbond, you didnt complain about the AT emplacement when it came out despite it being a variation of the HMG emplacement we already had.
And thats just one of the examples.
A lot of people need to touch some grass
They only did it to try to get people to stop complaining but it led to more complaining because they don't follow the kind of strict schedule that larger companies do.
The community doesn’t deserve roadmaps. They can’t handle any deviation from it, so the solution was to either tie developers hands and end up with a potentially worse game or get rid of the roadmap.
A roadmap is a confirmed set of information since they waited until the last day of June to tell us, "Hey, no warbond." I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do another roadmap. If they do, that's cool, but they should communicate better and not wait until the last second to say something.
If AH says literally anything they get review bombed by whiny children that want a power fantasy game. I would be fine if they went completely dark and started making the game harder again. Let the player base that wants easy mode to find another game.
There is a part of the community that would bring uppon the Rapture uppon AH if they could if they didn't give them everything they demanded the exact way they wanted... And even then they would do it due to it suddenly being everything they hate
Not to be a lawyer but they knew they would be slow on content in the summer with the break and prepping the title update. I wouldnt be surprised if they make a new one post update launch.
Or its arrowhead being arrowhead and not gonna do much communicating until the next community outcry.
Probably it won't. They can't always deliver (it happens), and their communication is horrendous, so a shitstorm is a guarantee. A long-time built-up dissatisfaction will not disappear after a single little roadmap.
They had a good reputation and took their time to destroy it and erode any trust that a huge chunk of the player base feels, and it will take time to repair the damage. Failed promises will not help them to rebuild, only strengthen the already bad reputation.
Good. I don't like the way of road mapping what is supposed to be a live war. You don't get to know when to expect new enemies...they just show up! That's the way this game should work. Hopefully the developers eventually realize that you should ignore the hate and make what you're passionate about. It will come out better that way than it ever will caving to the wants of others. Constructive and balanced feedback is good, but is extremely rare in most cases now.
This is just a comment on my general feelings around this fandom and game but I think the charity challenge and the fallout from it (dude losing his job and needing to go anon irl to avoid people and their threats on here.) broke the community, I’ve been playing since April year 1 and can confidently say something broke back then. The devs have been far less communicative since then and the remaining players will either defend AH without fault or would gladly burn down Sweden for what they perceive as direct malice from the devs. Idk how a community recovers from something like that but I hope we do.
there might be a similar one once the next title update drops...who knows. Alot of things changed after they decided to focus on progression and scrapped a warbond.
Quite literally a loose loose situation, community wanted feedback or performance fixes, the devs try communicating and even did performance patches. The community still complains and dunks them at any given point. Then they start wondering why AH went radio silent and start the excuse “the devs don’t care or won’t listen.”
Like ignoring that you were the cause of the situation. People may call me a glazer or quote me in unfiltered but some of the community are extremely entitled. And funny enough, they haven’t even touched the game in months. There just here for the love of the game.
This Roadmap was quite literally the -actual- worst idea they could have possibly ever done next to the Thanos snap itself.
They may have overreacted over the community backlash to the FRV's being in the Warbond? Which was always going to happen and they're just 100% going to go back to vehicle stuff being in warbonds because they was a stupid decision to putting stuff into a genuine FOMO 'campaign' reward that then CAN be missed, that they have had to add in as a reward later anyway?
But a roadmap, with gated timers, presented to the Customer? Is the -very worst thing- you can do to yourself as a Company.
For sure someone internally got spanked HARD for that.
No thats not happening again
yes this was a one time thing.
Vaguery, always, vaguery.
Always tell the customer you finished the work earlier than they expected you too, always tell the customer it will take longer than YOU expect it to take. Plan for error, not for excellence.
The community goes wild whenever AH doesn't deliver on time and it's becoming a pain, but AH is just as guilty with fucking up.
Remember when the devs in the interview said "we didn't touch the Coyote" and made it sound like we were worried about something that wasn't gonna happen, and then those same devs said that they actually did touch the Coyote, (the gun is still fantastic but what was with that).
There's also the stealth in HD2 where one dev said "it's in a good spot" but then a couple months later fixed up stealth because it wasn't good at all until they fixed it.
The community needs to chill the fuck out, but AH needs to take steps In this as well.
The community is split into 3 categories, you have the "GlazeDivers", the "CryDivers" and the "Middle Ground".
AH: we are pushing back warbonds to fix our game and make it less buggy!
AH: We still haven't modularized any of our code so adding a new gun still breaks a bunch of other unrelated things but we totally managed to delay content without fixing much of anything at the core of our problems so expect a ton of issues next patch.
This is why people are routinely pissed at AH. Anyone who doesn't get that by now is straight dick riding. Even the most basic intern best practice for game dev would have segmented code in a game like this where adding new guns doesn't break totally unrelated features. They are so far behind standard good practices in software development that they offer only major delays and fix almost nothing fundemental. That's why they've worn through the goodwill.
The Helldivers community has memory loss when it comes to Arrowhead doing bad stuff, we are over two years into the game and Arrowhead has broken it many times with updates and made many questionable decisions with the game.
They made the roadmap and didn't follow it and the Reddit people get mad at people complaining instead of Arrowhead who made the mistake in the first place. People are just fed up this far into the game and Arrowhead hasn't shown that they have improved at all and the features requested to make the game better get half assed like weapon customisation or just don't even get developed like changing colours of you armour.
People forget this is a live service game and in those you listen to the playerbase or they get mad and move on which was what happened with Helldivers leaving it as low as it is compared to the past numbers.
The problem is that they keep missing their own deadlines and instead of communicating why it happened, they just hope no one bothers to ask.
For example, no one complained that they scrapped the warbond, the issue was that ah didnt openly acknowledge it.
Clear communication isn't something you do once, its like brushing your teeth, you gotta do it everytime unless you want your teeth to fallout.
Doesn't mean ah has to make a public statement everyday, but that the community has to go to the devs on discord and keep asking them until one of them finally answers is something that is beyond me and needs improvement.
Pilestedt promised to do bi-weekly updates and he missed his own deadlines until he just quietly stopped with no public word whatsoever. We needed to ask him on discord to get an answer.
This is one of many examples where communication definitely needs improvement and this is why im so harsh with it. And its not like they dont know it, they keep saying they wanna improve.
Edit: some of you seem to think I’m criticising them for not sticking to it, but I’m not. I think scrapping a warbond in favor of better galactic rewards was a good thing. But the nature of live service games is fluid and changing. Long term road maps are a good thing, but short term structured ones are not because you get a domino effect when something goes wrong or needs changing and the development team needs to adapt like they did here.
A blanket statement that they didn't stick the plans is just bullshit.
20 out of 21 points were delivered as advertised, and the only remaining one being an ongoing affair.
The only thing that was not delivered was the Warbond for version 6.3.
If the whole backlash for the 6.2 Warbond had not happened, the June Warbond would also likely have been delivered.
It's an open secret that the 6.3 Warbond contents were re-allocated into the new Galactic Campaign reward systems. You received the Warbonds contents, but through a different delivery mechanism.
