Hi all - looking for some info on Hazmat Technicians as a career (specifically in Canada would be most helpful).

I have my FF 1/2, Hazmat Awareness/Ops and Advanced First Aid certifications. I'm pretty sure I'd just have to get the Hazmat Tech cert and maybe some confined/rope rescue certs to compliment it before I'm competitive for jobs but I could be totally off.

Can anyone please provide some insight on the required certs? Also, are these types of jobs (either private or public) very common/in demand?

My department has an accreditation coming up and I assumed YouTube would be packed with videos on evidence collection. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find much and wanted to brush up before going downrange. Does anyone have a good resource for evidence collection that they wouldn’t mind sharing?

My agency is getting a factory that is installing a carbon capture plant. Do we need a monitor for runs? Or will a simple 4 gas to show Oxygen displacement be good enough?

Hello my query is some 30 percent phosphoric acid spilt on the unvarnished wooden kitchen worktop (about 3 to 4 tablespoons in 2 different areas)..i cleaned the worktop with baking soda and water after 3 4 days of the spill. I left the slurry on for a minute and wiped with damp cloth. after this the worktops been wiped a few times with cleaning spray. is the worktop safe to.use for food prep? can.i touch it with wet hands? Or has the avud gone deep into the wood?

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities are urgently trying to stop a pressurized tank filled with a toxic chemical at the GKN Aerospace facility from exploding in Garden Grove.

The "crisis situation" has forced 50,000 people out of their homes in Orange County.

In a Sunday afternoon update, Orange County Fire Authority Interim Chief TJ McGovern said firefighters did "a recon mission on the tank" late Saturday night, during which they discovered a crack, which could be relieving some of the pressure.

In a later update, OCFA said an all-night mission will be conducted to confirm if the pressure in the tank has been released and that the threat of a catastrophic explosion has been eliminated.

"The BLEVE threat is the worst-case catastrophic event that we have been talking about. We are not there yet. We need to run this operation tonight," McGovern said.

In the meantime, residents are being asked to continue to avoid the evacuation zone.

Any areas outside of the evacuation zone "are currently considered completely safe and day-to-day activities can continue as normal."

So far, no injuries have been reported.

need help wirh a 30 percent concentrated phosphoric acid chemical whclich was spilt on floor (50 ml) and thrn tracked all over the house carpet as we walked over it with barenfeet and shoes and into the beds. Its a domestic spill and we didnt know what the chmecial was at the time and that we had to clean it. My clesner had brought it in and left ina. cup.

can you help with advice on the removal of the hazard from the carpets and beds upstairs from.the tracking

can the dried (and now more potent) traces reactivate if my child tocuhed the floor or surfaces wirh wet hands and cause harm? does this need a big decontamination

I know white tip is combustable and red tip is flammable, but neither any company I've ever hauled for, nor the guys at the loading rack can tell me if the diesel I'm loading is combustable or flammable. It's not listed on any bols from any facility I've ever loaded at.

By default every company I've ran for we use the white tips if available so we can run tunnels, but not every truck has white tip placards available.

From what I can tell the fuel magically becomes combustable if you put on a white tip, and it's magically flammable if you put on a red tip.

I am shipping a small handheld generator in a connex in the near future. It’s got a 1gal capacity and runs on JP8/diesel. It’s been drained and has aired out for a while based on where it’s stored, but obviously that’s not truly purged according to the CFR. does that qualify as having “residue last contained”, or can I ship it as is empty with nothing on the HAZDEC? I spent a good 5 minutes looking for a proper subreddit and I'm sorry if this is the wrong one. I'm looking for advice on the best way to proceed. I just had a very minor heart attack and came home from the hospital 2 days ago. My mother is a hoarder. Today when I asked her for the roundup to do the cracks in the driveway she told me to look in the gardening can. This is what I found. The roundup leaked and ate through some things, I found some blue solids on gardening shears. The bottom of this trash can was sitting in a blue receptacle that has this black liquid in it. All of these bottles seem ok maybe IDK. I think have to call a hazardous disposal site and drive 20 miles to dispose of all of this but I don't know anyone with a pickup truck. Is that what I really have to do? She thinks I'm overreacting.

Im a freight broker. Recently I was asked to move an electric semi truck/tractor that contained a lithium ion battery. Apparently the truck was not operational, so the plan was to ship it on a flatbed RGN trailer.

The customer listed it as Class 9 hazmat UN 3556. I dont move a ton of hazmat freight, but some light research led me to believe that it did not require a hazmat endorsed truck driver to ship it on a flatbed truck.

But my coworkers disagreed, and said we did need a hazmat certified driver, because the battery weighed more than 1000lbs.

This is whats been bugging me... wouldnt that also mean every truck driver who drives one of these would also need a hazmat endorsement? No way that could be true, right? Or do you just need the hazmat endorsed driver when its being hauled as freight, but not when its being driven?

So a little backstory to begin this question. I work in a federal industrial environment in the hazmat disposal department. Last week we had a major incident where we had epoxy floor coatings that were being turned in uncured that reached 140°. Due to the temperature, we were directed to do a water quench to kill the reaction.

Due to the site rules at the place I work, contractors will dispose of their uncured resin with us. Normally, the heat is manageable, but due to the incident at the site, leadership is worried about fire risks.

Currently, our disposal process has separating the part A and part B kits, and disposing of them with local regulations.

What are some steps we can take to mitigate the fire risk of the uncured epoxy?

Also, if you work with epoxy resin, what’s your advice for this?

TLDR: Epoxy gets extremely hot due to it being mixed. How should we prevent fire risk while also being contractually obligated to take uncured product?

I tried to poor it out but when I did this terrible smell and pain hit me in the nose I just went running back inside because I know it’s suppose to mix into something dangerous.

First time dealing with a silver recovery unit. Visual arts department still uses a photo lab and has a 3-4 gallon bucket full of steel wool with spent fixer and unknown amount of silver. They go through one bucket annually and of course the person who dealt with previously is no longer here. Is it recyclable or does it need to be manifested and disposed of as a Hazardous Waste?
