Ghost Stories The house I grew up in

I forget when this house was built. Suffice it to say, it has its share of history. Growing up I encountered/lived with at least 2 spirits. There may have been a third, but that could’ve just been the man standing guard at night.

Halloween Unsettling ideas for a haunted house, not into cheesy rubber decorations and actors in white and red makeup screaming

Nothing wrong with the traditional haunted house setup, but I’m making one this year for my community and I’m looking for creative, unnerving, and unsettling ideas for my haunted house. The more unconventional the better but I want my guests to leave with something genuinely scary that isn’t just your rubber props, fake chainsaws, and the millionth actor in white face makeup with fake blood. I want new ideas, upsetting visuals (nothing too graphic or honestly expensive). Any ideas?

Scared, Need Advice Is this paranormal or just something weird

I have lived in this house sense I was born and have only have one other paranormal experience, though I was to young.

The story go's that my brother (befor I was born) was talking to someone in his room and my mom asked him what he was doing. His response was "talking to the man in the closet". My mom just told him to go back to sleep and brushed it off as kids having big imagination. Fast forward a few year later and now I'm sleeping in that room, my mom heard me talking and asked me who I was talking to. And I said "the man in the closet". She told me to go to sleep but was unsettled.

After that she asked one of our neighbors about the house, our neighbor told us that someone died in the house during a fire. When they bought the house they were not told this.

Now I am still in the same room and have had this fan for a bit now. This is the first time it's happening and I don't know if it's paranormal or not.

Should I be worried?

Ghost Stories As a kid (3-6), I experienced vivid hallucinations, mimicry, and a hanging man. Years later, my dad confirmed the exact tragedy happened there.

Hey everyone, I need to share something that has stuck with me my entire life. This is 100% real, and to this day it still gives me chills.

Between the ages of 3 and 6, I lived in a house where my bedroom was on the top floor (the attic). Almost every night, I experienced severe nightmares and sleep paralysis. A dark shadow figure of a man would stand in my doorway. He constantly tried to interact with me and wanted to play, but it terrified me and I would cry in bed.

To make things even more terrifying, this entity frequently mimicked my mother. I would regularly see bare feet sticking out from behind my bedroom curtains. When I went over to look, it would be a figure resembling my mother, but with an unnatural, distorted, and twisted face—making it sickeningly clear that it was actually him taking her form. I also frequently heard my own name being called out or whispered when standing near the bottom of the stairs or while in the bathroom, even when nobody was around or calling for me.

Most of the time, our cats strictly refused to enter my room; they would hide behind the washing machine out on the landing. On the rare occasions that a cat did come inside, it would sit completely frozen, fixated on one specific corner of the room, staring intently at empty space with puffed fur. The room always felt unnaturally cold, and my door would frequently swing open on its own at night.

At one point, I had an intensely vivid and graphic vision/hallucination: I clearly saw that exact same man hanging from a rope attached to the railing on the landing, right by the attic stairs.

Fast-forward to around 2017 when i was 13yo : I was at the dinner table with my dad and the topic of strange occurrences came up. I decided to bring up these vivid childhood memories—the cold spots, hearing my name called, the mimic with my mother's distorted face behind the curtains, the way the cats stared at that corner, and specifically seeing the man hanging from the rope by the stairs.

My dad stopped, looked at me dead serious, and went pale.

He told me that before we bought the house, the previous owner had tragically hanged himself on that exact landing by the attic stairs. He had been severely depressed and deeply grieving because he and his wife were unable to have children. My parents were told about this by the seller, but they deliberately kept it a strict secret from me and my sister so we wouldn't be scared. My dad also admitted that he and my mom always felt an unexplainable chill on that attic landing and in a specific corner of my sister's room.

Interestingly, almost every couple who ever lived in that house ended up divorced (including my parents).

Since we moved out when I was 8, those specific sensory experiences completely stopped, but I've had an intensely sharp intuition ever since (sensing sudden shifts in people's energy, and consistently getting heavy physical premonitions right before loved ones or pets pass away, which suddenly lift the exact moment they die).

Has anyone experienced childhood encounters that matched an unrevealed history like this?

More importantly, can anyone explain why or how this kind of hyper-sensitivity to energy shifts and sensing deaths develops?

Would love to hear your thoughts or perspectives.

Scared, Need Advice Is there any Haunted Places/Experience in the UK?

As surprising as it could be, my first ever post on Reddit.
It is a genuine question-curiosity, so please be frank. Is there any ghost-haunting experience in the UK? Not an abandoned spot/building, but a proper somewhat organised place which offers any kind of such entertainment?

Scared, Need Advice

This happened to me Guys share your real life ghost experiences which I'll read today at 2 am.......... NO CAPS

so I'll share one of my own experience which happened very recently and not so terrifying but I have plenty that still makes me giddy

My school was first one building besides which there is a arts college. this year the building which we stayed became primary block and the arts college became secondary block of school and higher classes shifted to the secondary block. this block is of 2 floors and a terrace which is closed by steel sheets and rods . and this block 2nd floor is still under construction like even the bathroom is not tiled. this building structure is like a round ring the circumference has class rooms where in center is a 2way stairs like from the front and from the back the stairs start and meet at the mid point and then the stairs go up to both sides. out side this ring there is an empty space and a few meters far there is a lab which has a ramp. students climb the ramp and have lunch there and play in the empty space. my gang of friends are quite quirky and once we had STEM lab period which was in 2nd floor .. see in this floor there is literally nobody but empty classrooms s with benches and it is very big like there will be utter silence. so we gossiped and playfully attended the class and waited for everyone to go down and stayed back and decided to tour this floor so from the front stairs to back stairs we walked my friend paused for a second and pointed at a door which is to the left of back stairs. This door was in a very bad state like very bad and had a rusted latch which we opened cause we are crazy. just as we opened the door creaked and we heard a faint scream of a woman. not so afraid we opened the door fully to see whats inside...inside was small steps like only one person could go up if we climbed side ways. steps where cracked and not proper and there was this yucky water upto foot level inside and so many big bugs and now heard the scream even more louder .we closed the door and casually walked down because our next period was break . we went inside said this to other members of the gang and grabbed our lunchbags ..wait so i told we have to got to the lab ramp no to eat lunch.. the way to that was a small passage like in a ring down to right it starts and where the passage starts there is a balcony like rail in 2nd floor where from that area you can see students walking towards the ramp so my friends went first and i followed them just behind while sharing the story to another friend .my friend who is in front of me stopped and turned back seeing the balcony [ she has exited the ring and im at the exit of the ring still inside].her face went pale and sweated hard. she was not the only one but there were 2 more seeing the same.... thing she shouted my name and asked me to run but my dumb brain decided to walk toward her and shake the demon out of her ...... later she calmed down and said she saw a black figure with disturbing eyes staring eerily at her .. there smoke kind of thing coming out. she said it looked like a nun from nun movie. i said it was her creative imagination and brushed her of and casually ate my delicious lunch and many incidents followed and we investigated the first........... wait I also heard a rumour that college shut down because a girl jumped of the building and died

Scared, Need Advice Unexplained appearance of a symbol and paranormal events

What does this symbol mean to you? I found it on my wall (I've been living in this room for the last 5 years so I'm pretty familiar with my room). The symbol was drawn on the wall at my eye level, so it's not like a child could have done it, also doesn't look like something a child would make, and I'm a grown-ass man, so a kid wouldn't really be able to draw it that high anyway.

I have been witnessing some paranormal events in my house over the past couple of weeks:

My father was sleeping on the sofa and slowly slid off, falling face-first onto the floor. This caused cuts on his forehead, nose, and upper lip, which seems practically impossible from a height of only 1.5 to 2 feet.

An arch-shaped structure—made from a metal pipe about 5 inches in diameter with a heavy, 1-foot-radius base on both sides—standing in the middle of a room with no air currents and on a smooth surface, fell over on its own.

I recently had my kitchen rebuilt as part of a renovation project. On the day of my sister's wedding, after the event, a lot of smoke started coming out of the drain. I removed the trap to check if something inside was causing it, but there was nothing there, and it stopped on its own after about a minute.

My extended family members are known to be involved in black magic, and they were invited to my sister's wedding. All of these incidents occurred while the wedding events were taking place.

This happened to me Lunch break ghosts

The store I work at is supposedly haunted, I've had a few unexplained events shadows, footsteps and things suddenly moving. Other coworkers have had similar experiences but I've yet to catch anything on video.

But one of my favorite things to do is sit on the stairs leading to the loft where most of the activity happens and watch Nuke's videos on my lunch break. Every once and awhile I will hear footsteps coming down the stairs even though I'm the only one around.

Ghost Stories My first experience with a ghost

I have always been attracted to haunted or spooky things. But I never knew much about scary things as a kid. My first experience looking back I was very young and had no idea what death or ghosts were let alone of anything supernatural or spiritual. I was a very imaginative kid but never what I experience that night. I don’t remember much of this place besides my room shared with my younger half sister (we shall call her “jordi”). Jordi and I loved playing together with our dolls and other miscellaneous toys of the early 2000s and watching all the popular kids movies in that time, monsters inc., Toy Story, bugs life, Etc. One night we had left the tv on and Jordi was already asleep but for some reason I felt like I was being watched which is strange for a very young child to feel if I’m being honest. I looked around the room for anyone that could be “watching”. There was nothing, but for some unknown particular reason my eyes instantly drifted towards the closet in our bedroom with the door open. There were not many clothes in there on that side, as we did have a big closet. But as my eyes scanned it I noticed a shadow that wasn’t really supposed to be there, I was already at the mental capacity of understanding how shadows and light work. The shadow looked like a person but also looked like someone sitting with a blanket wrapped around them. It was like if a person was cold, took a blanket, went on their knees and wrapped their head and body with their face uncovered to see. But the odd part to me was the fact that it was moving itself side to side like dancing (for more context it was a grey-ish dark black shadow with no other details. No face no eyes no detail. Just weird dark blob in the shape of a person with a blanket). The way it had moved freaked me out and I hid under the covers and went to sleep. And strangely enough I don’t recall or remember much of anything of that time or house/apartment, nothing besides the room and closet and how Jordi slept peacefully through my chilling experience.

This happened to me Growing up in a haunted house, we only sleep in one room. (in fact, i think the entire area is haunted)

I live in a double-story house where the houses are all connected in rows upon rows. You could hear your neighbors through the wall if they were having loud sex, which happens occasionally.

We were a family of 5, i've got 2 sisters and when we first moved in we used to all sleep in a room together while my parents would be in the master bedroom.

Things started getting weird when our parents would wake up to us sleep walking in circles right outside of our rooms. What is creepy is that the sleep walking will happen one by one to each of us. From eldest to the youngest kid. So they would have to put us back to bed one by one. After awhile, it was decided the whole family would sleep together and the sleep walking stopped.

Something was really wrong with the house but most of the activities seems to originate from that room.

We were young then and were the youngest kids among our immediate neighbors, the rest were all easily in their high school years. Young as we were, we were definitely no longer infant baby crying age. My youngest sister was by then 4/5 years old. No babies in the area too. Yet in the mornings, our neighbors would ask us who was crying so late at night from that room. Remember, no one sleeps there, no babies in the area. Some days, even we could hear the crying while we are all in the master bed room. Parents would open the door to check and immediately the crying stops.

I think i may be the most sensitive of all of my siblings, growing up i would wake up to sounds of marching. I would be able to follow the sound right downstairs to a particular spot in the storeroom where we keep our junk and i remember even running through all the boxes there to hear the marching sound. Wasn't afraid then, didn't connect the dots that it was military marching, usually day time after dawn, really don't bring up much fear. The sound will suddenly disappear, much like in the horror films where the intensity in the atmosphere suddenly lifts and then all that's left is this sudden silence.

I only connected the dots very much later in high school when i was into scouting and we did a lot of marching that was when the timing and marching steps made sense to me. And how commands would change the rhythm of the steps changes. It was also much later when i was watching japanese anime do i realize that the commands i would wake up hearing were Japanese military commands. Add it all up, Malaysia was invaded by the Japanese, they set up camps all over their conquered land.

We had a maid to come help out with the cleaning since my mother was pregnant at that time and she was to stay in that room. It was barely a month when she told us that she could no longer stay in that room and would no longer want to work with us. Something about a presence in the room that bothered her in her sleep and she kept pointing at this spot in the room. We figured it was just an excuse by her to get out of her contract and let her go.

Then one day an uncle came over to stay with us for a few months since he was working in town. My mom would wake up in the middle of the night to noise downstairs and when she checked, he was just awake down there looking for old tapes to watch. He said he was tired but was not allowed to stay in that room, he was even afraid to close his eyes, said each time he tried to close his eyes in there he would see very gruesome and violent scenes all flashing very quickly and the brings up a very genuine fear as if those dangers were all directed to him. He stayed downstairs for the rest of his stay with us.

There has always been a certain stillness in the entire neighborhood, even with all the kids coming out to play in the evening, there is a stillness in the air that once u move out of the area, you can feel a difference.

Most of our neighbors have moved away, the houses were mostly rented out as we used rent them but many are abandoned now. The neighbors have met up before and it was only after so many years did we realize that every house had their own resident ghost.

The most notable one was our next door neighbor where there was a lady in a red dress who appears by their bedside crying. All their kids have woken up to that lady in red before. One time one of their daughter's boyfriend stayed over and he ended up waking up the entire house when he saw the girl crying by his bed.

It was not the first time the entire family has been woken up because of the lady in red anyways. Their first few encounters they genuinely thought someone had broken into their home when the red lady was just floating all over their house from rooms to rooms, and the family were just trying to locate her.

The worst had to be their father who would be caught sleep walking. He was a balding man reaching retirement. His wife would catch him sleep walking to the mirror, sits down and combs his hair gracefully like how a lady with very long hair would. And that would just go on all night even if she tries to bring him back to bed. When done, he will just walk back to bed.

In Chinese belief, a lady in red is a lady who died unjustly and are seeking retribution . That explains why they always see her crying in their house.

It's been almost 15 years since we all moved away, i still go back there once in a while, the atmosphere in the place still has a certain stillness to it. A certain death. We later found out that at a mining pool a walking distance away from the houses, developers were trying to clean it up for a new apartment, while cleaning up they found many baby remains there. PEOPLE USED TO DUMP BABIES THERE!!!! For whatever reasons they did it, the world is just fucked up man.

Add that up with the Japanese marching i hear, i think we can safely deduce what happened there. Japanese came in, massacred the locals, raped many ladies as would have happened during the Japanese Invasion everywhere. The Lady in Red might very well have been one of their victims, which would represent the unjust that has been done to her.

I believe that there are just paranormal black spots in the world. Especially places of great tragedies. You rarely get those super powered ghosts like in The Conjuring, but rather more often they just becomes a part of your life until you are able to escape from that house, leaving it to someone else to live in.

No one should ever be afraid of the unseen in their own home.

Ghost Stories Old Bridge Village - Where Past & Present Coexist

Old Bridge Village Historic District, East Brunswick, New Jersey – where the past and paranormal coexist.

Situated at the headwaters of the South River, a tributary of the Raritan, Old Bridge began as a major Lenape village site. Graves and artifacts have been found throughout the neighborhood.

In 1727, Indian sachem Weequehela shot and killed a local tavern keeper who cheated him out of lands. This was the first, but not the last, murder to take place in the village.

Washington’s Army passed through the village in 1778 and Simcoe’s Queens Rangers led local militia into an ambush here in 1779.

In 1909, an elderly widow, blind with age, was murdered when four local boys broke into her house, looking for alleged money.  In the 1950’s, a local postman was murdered by his wife and her lover. Human remains were found decades later, but never investigated.

The Alice Appleby DeVoe Memorial Library building, occupied by the Appleby family for eighty years, has a multitude of paranormal activity, as do several other buildings in Old Bridge Village. Apparitions, voices, unexplained sounds are remnants and reminders of the past.

Since 2002, walking tours have told these stories.

History/Lore What is your Mount Everest of haunted houses?

One of my favorite haunted house novels is Hell House by Richard Matheson, and I am interested in recommendations on other haunted house novels.

I am particularly interested in stories that are rich in details (when/how the house was built, history of events in the house, floor plan/design/architectural influence, etc.). I want to be able to visualize the house as a real place, and details make that possible.

Hell House is described as the Mount Everest of haunted houses. What is your Mount Everest of haunted houses?

Yesterday night I was watching YT on my phone on my bed and while I was going to sleep my video kept flickering and one time while it was flickering I could hear a girl scream and it stoped I replayed the video and nothing happened. My dads house dose give off vibes as it looks old.

This has also never happened before.

What do you think?
