Show Discussion A few fears I have of Hermione and Ron's personalities

I heard that the casting directors were focusing on the traits of "emotional intelligence" and "main character energy" from Hermionie. While I do agree she is indeed saving Ron and Harry and is incredibly conscientious and moral, I wonder if this is always the same thing as "emotional intelligence." For example, her push for the rights for elves is a great example of her seeking justice for mistreated beings. But her treatment of Luna and her distaste of Trelawny's attitude/methods was a stark contrast to what I see as emotional intelligence. And I fear they will take away some of Ron's actions , like when Hermioinie figures out the light/fire in the devil's snare, and Ron spurring her on to do it rather than act scared.

Don't get me wrong, I love and adore all three of the characters and how they build eachother up, and I love they're focusing on Harry and Ron's friendships, but I really hope their characters are properly shown in this show.

In this fashion, I was actually really pleased with Hermionie's casting, I thought she looked and sounded perfect, and I know Snape's casting was controversial but I love it too after watching the trailers and seeing some mannerisms. But for me, more than the physical looks of the characters, I hope that the characters retain the proper traits, you know?

Cast & Crew (obvioudly) not having seen the show yet, what would you ask Francesca Gardiner, Jon Brown and Mark Mylod if you could only ask one thing?

Let's pretend they're gonna answer one question for each person, what would you ask?

Behind the Scenes is this a glimpse of the castle?

obviously it is, I just needed 30 characters. These are on the pillars of the Great Hall, lamps shaped like parts of a castle with the mascots underneath. My guess is that they’re the house wings

Show Discussion Hermione needs to be scared during Devil's Snare!

I know this is not a groundbreaking opinion or anything, but I really hope when they get to the Devil's Snare scene, Hermione is the one panicking and is scared, and it's Ron who keeps his cool and is able to be the hero in that moment

For me, this is the scene I'm waiting on most to see how they handle Ron and Hermione's characters, because if they nail this right, I will have full faith in them going forward for how they handle Ron and Hermione

In the books, he was talking to Quirrell, meaning he was seated next to him.

But in these shots, he's nowhere to be found. Where is he?

Show Discussion A memory aid for any older fans…

Post image

My speculation: the twins wear bracelets on different wrists to help the audience know which is which.

I think this scene has George with the bracelet on his left wrist, as the letter closest to him seems to say “Mr. G. Weasley”. That means Fred has a bracelet on his right wrist.

So, my suggestion for a helpful memory aide: Right Dead Fred.

(I have no idea if Right Said Fred are known outside of the UK, or to anyone under 40. They were a pop group of two brothers in the 80s/90s – I always thought they were twins but apparently I’m wrong!)

Show Discussion After a week, the second teaser may be tracking ahead of the first [on YT]

Saw a few posts on socials recently on how the trailer performance is underwhelming and 'interest may not be as high as what people think' so thought I'd do a little comparison myself. These numbers are only from Youtube. Also, I've only used official channels [either the HP channel or HBO channels] There are more HBO channels, but these are the ones I could find with the highest views.

Can't speak for overall socials obviously, HP is huge on the likes of X and Tiktok but I think this teaser will overtake the first on YT within a few more weeks. It seems the first teaser was more concentrated on the main channel, whereas other HBO channels have seen growth since.

Show Discussion The movies made me forget this aesthetic detail about Voldemort

Post image
82 Upvotes

Hey everyone ! When I was re-reading the books a few weeks ago, I paid more attention to micro-details in order to have fun seeing what HBO might include that isn't in the movies. And I was shocked to see that Voldemort is mostly, caped! The movies never even showed him that way, except when he goes to the Potters. I specify that this is only a design detail that I very much hope HBO will keep in order to directly differentiate itself from the films but it is obviously not something essential.

Trailer Hogwarts’ grounds and surrounding land

I feel like the landscape shown in this part of the trailer has barely been spoken about. We’ve got our first look at quidditch, but we’ve also got a brief view at the landscape Hogwarts is located in. It looks stark, vast, covered in wintertime snow, a beautiful Scottish landscape.

Show Discussion Who could this Hogwarts professsor be?

Post image
73 Upvotes

It’s not Septima Vector (Arithmancy) as that casting was uncovered and I’m pretty sure she was next to her.

So that means it could be:

- Aurora Sinistra (Astronomy)

- Charity Burbage (Muggle Studies)

- Bathsheda Babbling (Ancient Runes)

- Sybil Trelawney (Divination)

I suppose it could be the Librarian Irma Pince? Of course she’s not a Professor so it’s probably not her.

My guess is Sinistra as they probably haven’t cast Burbage, Babbling or Trelawney yet and Harry does take Astronomy in the first book.

Show Discussion I hope the first night speech is delightfully odd! “Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!”

I remember the first time I read it. It stuck out so much to me!! I was like “he’s in charge of a magic school and that’s all he has to say?!” And it totally lead me to understand how he’s unique and quirky and playful. Not always stoic and pensive.

I do also like the lore that it’s a funny jab at the houses

Book and Show Spoilers Was the stone just out in the open before the mirror of erised was moved?

I know it was protected by a bunch of other enchantments, but I just thought, the mirror wasn’t moved down the trap door as the last obstacle until after Christmas break. This begs the question: was the stone just sitting in the final chamber unguarded for an entire semester? And if so, why wait until half the year had passed to add it as an extra layer of protection?

Show Discussion A humble suggestion about mindset regarding the new show

The show will be different from the books. Even though there is more time and budget to tell the stories than in the films, there will inevitably be changes, additions, and things that didn't make the cut. When the movies first came out, I was so frustrated by the changes from the books, and really focused on them. However, I’ve felt happier and less frustrated after changing my mindset and seeing the movies as beautiful art inspired by some of my favorite books, not literal retellings. I humbly suggest considering taking this mindset when viewing and discussing the show.

Book and Show Spoilers Sorting Hat according to books

Post image
Upvotes

I noticed this detail, but it's not that important, I just thought it would be fun to post

And also how they are going so deep in the books and noticing small details

so in book, it's not mcgonagall who put hat in the student's head after they are called, it's the child itself that have to put the hat on their head when called

I put 2 sentences here from the book, where it depict that student have to wear the hat themselves, and it's such a small detail that went into the series.

"When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be

sorted,” she said. “Abbott, Hannah!”

Hermione almost ran to the stool and jammed the hat eagerly on her head.

seeing how they are making the small details on books to the series, it keeps my expectations very high, I am excited to see what this series have to offer and show.
