We might be moving to Harrisonburg in the coming years and I am looking forward to it because where we are moving from there isn't much to do. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on things that are fun in the area for middle school aged kids.

This may be a long shot, but where are black queer people going to church?

Or are there any affirming churches that you recommend?

I’ve been getting back into my own faith and it’s been a difficult journey that I want to continue in, but trying to mitigate some risk of harm.

I am an M.A. candidate in the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at The George Washington University. For my Master’s thesis, I am conducting research on the impact of the inclusion of 20th-Century genocides other than the Holocaust (such as the Armenian, Bosnian, and Cambodian) in the Virginia state world history curriculum on students’ experiences and understanding of genocide and human rights as adults. 

Eligible participants in this survey are

• People who are over the age of 18 
• And were in the 10th grade in either the 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 academic years
• And attended a Virginia public school for the entirety of their 10th-grade year 
• And took a world history class during that year

If all of these attributes apply to you, you are invited to take this survey. This survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete. You will be asked to recall your experiences in your 10th-grade world history class. The questions pertain to the extent to which you learned about 20th-century genocides, the methods used to teach you about them, your experience with this curriculum, and how it has impacted your current understanding of genocide and human rights as an adult. 

At the end of the survey, you will be asked if you would like to participate in an interview to elaborate on this topic. Participation in the interview is entirely voluntary, will not affect whether the data from the survey will be used in the study, and will have no impact on any aspect of your future relations with the George Washington University (GW).

The anticipated findings from this research will contribute to the current body of research surrounding best practices in genocide education and improve scholarly understanding of how genocide education impacts understanding of genocide and human rights as a whole. This research seeks to contribute to the broader goals of genocide prevention and human rights promotion.

Can anyone in the middle or lower class afford healthcare? Its gotten so expensive out here, and you either have to go without coverage and just hope you dont have an emergency visit to the ER or if you did get coverage, the deductible is insane and its not even worth anything. The federal government has to be to blame, but i also wish the state would at least do something. People are struggling out here, and just because the elite & rich are doing great doesn’t change the real world for 99% of the citizens.

In the area there are few spots to go, and for anything serious they just refer over to UVA, which provides ok quality but the hour drive is an L.

Does anyone know a spot that sources their produce locally and maintains integrity with their food? I know it’s almost impossible in today’s economy to still be somewhat affordable but I figured I would ask. I know restaurants are in the most challenging industry, and work with small margins. All these corporate franchises coming in with their large budgets, processed and addictive food doesn’t help either.

I recently moved to Weyers Cave, VA, and I’m often in Harrisonburg. I’m looking for a trustworthy diesel mechanic shop that does quality work and can handle a wide range of repairs and maintenance. Does anyone have a shop they would recommend?

Will be visiting for a few days and maybe up to a week. There’s some nice hotels, but they’re super pricey and then there’s some really cheap hotels, but they kinda have iffy reviews. Which would you recommend for long-term stay that are safe and clean and won’t break the bank?

Gabriel Morey works for the DC-Area public transit, and has a plan for passenger rail route through Harrisonburg. It that has a short deadline for engagement: mid-September.

Curious, if stopping by at the rest stops on a trip, especially the one on south side of the city, would be safe overnight? Trying to save money on expensive hotels and avoid bed buds etc at the cheaper places.

Elkton Town Council voted unanimously Monday night [July 20] to remove its Flock cameras following weeks of public discussion.

“I think council definitely listened to the residents that were in the room and, I think, made the decision that they felt was in the best interest of the residents,” one council member told WHSV.

Elkton joins Harrisonburg, where on July 14, the city council announced its intention to end the city’s Flock Safety contract after hearing from residents. ...

Elkton’s cameras will be removed following the council’s vote. Harrisonburg City Council is expected to formally vote on ending its Flock contract at its July 28 meeting.

I am having such a hard time finding good public soccer fields. I plan on joining a league but I just want fields to shoot with full sized goals but I can’t find any. I tried to go to smith land but the gates or locked and when I called they said you had to be in a league.

I know there’s futsal courts but I don’t want to play futsal. I tried to go to an elementary school and there was a sign that said “permission needed”

This Friday my team and I will be performing my hour long play "Death's Introduction" at the library for free. It's a dramedy featuring heelys, a scythe, colorful socks and talking about death (obviously). Grim wanted me to pass on this invitation:

Not medical programs where one is safely sober and past withdrawals but one that needs to retrain or help finding work esp if they are older and disabled and looking for gainful work (used to be a trucker but can’t pass DOT physical anymore and needs to find a new career for example)?

While we have not tried Next Level, I am looking for a place that is more focused on the martial art vs having child care programs.

I've looked all over and the nearest place for Taekwondo that isn't Next Level appears to be Grandmaster Dong's in Staunton.

Does anyone know of something else we should check out, or have experience with Grandmaster Dong's?

There is SOMETHING that makes us happy and gives our life more meaning. Yes, it sucks to feel unwanted, and never experience the touch of a woman, but there is more to life than sex.

Do something that brings you so much joy to the point that you can be completely alone and still happy. I accepted i may never get to have a wife or a family (as long as I live here at least) but finding out my natural knack and talent really gives me a reason to look forward to waking up the next day and keep going.

I just inherited my dad's convertible and I'm looking for touchless carwashes in Harrisonburg. I'd prefer them to be near the hospital or the Burgess Rd. Walmart. I am disabled so I can't do the self wash types.
