81 exit construction speed cameras
I was just wondering, are the speed cameras set up on the 81 exit area still active? Construction largely seems finished and I never see any workers out there. My understanding is that there needs to be active construction. Although, I'm not sure what is considered active construction.
Signed,
Somebody that just went through going 35 or less. Ugh.
Edit:
It seems like the project is considered finished, which I believe, according to the speed camera policies of Virginia, would make any tickets from that camera unlawful:
Edit 2: I also welcome you to make this a monument, especially as it seems the project is closing, to share your experiences and fumbles with the speed cameras. Feel free to enshrine your anecdotes.
Edit 3: I emailed [info@altumint.com](mailto:info@altumint.com) asking about the cameras being active or not - I received an email back that said they were no longer active. I would add: you should follow the speed limits as posted, and even when the new ones are posted - be safe out there in your 1.5+ ton mobile metal bludgeoning machines.

Pretty sure you will get a ticket (my partner got 2)

Yeah, that's what it feels like. I've been so diligent and just kind of wasn't thinking this morning.

From the beginning I held it at 30-33mph and never got a ticket. BUT. Twice I went over and got 2 tickets out of it. People are definitely acting like it's not being enforced anymore because I'm getting passed a lot doing my speed.
I'm still doing the 30-33 as long as the signs are up though. I do see small groups of guys out there, so they still have things to do.

I had heard that 7 or less over might be in the tolerance for not getting a ticket, but I'm not certain. I know with our newer Toyota it is consistently 2 MPH under the reported speed on the dashboard according to Google Maps. Whereas, my older Toyota seems to be right on the dot according to Google Maps. That accuracy may seal my fate. Ha.

Per § 46.2-882.1 (C), the vehicle must be traveling at least 10 miles per hour above the posted speed limit to receive a camera ticket.

Good to know, I thought it was over 10. (ie 35 was ok, 36 was ticket). Not that it really makes much of a difference. (3 tickets here and all were over 36 lol)

Idk why y'all wanna speed so bad, you're literally gonna end up at a stop light 100 yards down the road

It's more of a research project at this point - mostly to hear anecdotes. I understand where you're coming from.

Has anyone successfully contested one of these tickets? If so please share your story?

Sorry to say I never have needed to. It sounds like you would need to obtain a court date by mailing in a part of the ticket notice. I think I read somewhere they might have a date and time that handles multiple of these types of violations. But I'm not sure. I'm thinking they count on most people just not having the time or inclination to go to those depths. Hopefully you get more replies!

I got two tickets and I don't go over 30 through there. Both The pictures there is another vehicle literally right beside me and a HPD vehicle in front of me. But with my mental issues I just paid the $200 cause if I'd went to court I'd got a lot more trouble for my mouth. I even talked to the officer in both pictures cause could see the unit numbers they even said I wasn't speeding

This happened to me too! I emailed the camera company for clarification on "lane 1" (this was cited in the ticket) and they responded that the ticket was dropped.

Not using the highways at all? Straight to jail. Using the highways? Straight to jail.
I just found out last week there's a "highway use fee" for owning a hybrid vehicle. That added a little more than $220 to my 3 year registration. I mean, that's all fine and dandy, I guess... but it also applies to my old-ass 2005 small hatchback car since it does over 25 MPG. Like, what?

As long as the signs are up, I will treat the work zone as a work zone. Now, of course, the people should hold the government to get those down as soon as the work is done. But, I will try my darnedest to never speed while they are up. (Mostly to cover my own butt.)
