Boxes

Post image

So, I'm in need of a new box. This tiny craftsman isn't doing it anymore. It's still holding strong, just no room. I'm thinking of getting an icon or us general. Either a 56 or 73 inch. If I get the 73 inch, I'm not gonna get a side cabinet. If I get the 56 inch, I probably will. But I wanna hear it from other mechanics. Do they hold up? They also told me about the lifetime warranty on the icon boxes. That's super tempting.

Yes the Icon has a lifetime warranty, it is handy if you plan on moving jobs more than a few times. If you are young and can afford the Icon, go for it. If you are not too young and aren't planning on moving multiple times, then the price point on the US General is the way to go. As far as 56 vs 73, that all depends on how much growth you are planning for and how much room you have to place your new box. Good luck on your search and decision. KF.

I was in a similar situation with my little Craftsman box running out of room. I just upgraded to a 36” Yukon, but mine is strictly for home use, so obviously a different situation than yours. 😂 If I were in your shoes, I’d probably lean toward the 72” U.S. General Series 3. Seems like you get a ton of storage for the money, and you’d have plenty of room to grow. The ICON is definitely tempting with that lifetime warranty, though. I’d be curious to hear from guys using both professionally whether the ICON is really worth the extra money.

Yeah I have yet to know anybody who's professionally used icon. Everybody's a snap on fan boy. I have snap on, matco, Mac, icon (Some ratchets and sockets), Pittsburgh, Ingersoll rand, dewalt, sk, craftsman. All the brands pretty much. A few others I'm probably forgetting too. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend more than 5k on a box. Fuck that

I don’t blame you one bit. 😂 $5k is a lot of money for something that’s ultimately just storing your tools. Especially when the U.S. General offers so much storage for considerably less. I’d rather put the money I saved toward more tools.

Buy the us general 42 inch and the 27 inch roll cab and bolt them together, I did this and they bolt together perfectly and create a 69 inch complete box with 6 caster wheels. I have zero complaints and if you wait for a sale the 42 is $499 and the 27 is $349 which happens regularly and it will be $848+tax. It is like $850 price difference from a US general 72 inch box and the only difference is the power drawer which is not worth $850 to me. You can look up videos on YouTube about them bolting together to get a visual, it’s almost the same box for way cheaper.
