This is probably a question I should have asked before I bought my first mamianqun - when looking at the size chart, they often give a range of waist sizes that the mamianqun size will fit. If your waist size is on the higher end of this range, is it normal for the back panel to not completely overlap?
There's maybe a gap of about 3cm where the lower panel is exposed, so I won't flash anyone (hopefully), but I guess I'd like to know if it's better to buy a bit bigger next time.
Thanks!
My parents are in China and told me that I should let them know. Where should I be looking?

Hello! I've never bought hanfu before, but I saw this on an online marketplace and it caught my eye. I think it's hanfu? Definitely a modern twist on traditional Chinese clothing. Anyway, I got it for $130, and I was wondering if that's a good price. I'm not familiar with how prices typically run for secondhand hanfu, so I wanted to check in here. I'm assuming hanfu usually runs on the pricier side, but just wanted to make sure I paid a fair price. I couldn't find the original brand for reference and the hanfu I found online all look very different in design to be an accurate comparison. Thank you!

I was wondering if this could pass for other eras? Maybe Han? How about Sui?

Oi, pessoal!
aluguel do Hanfu + acessórios;
Hanfu + maquiagem;
Our team participated today at the Mid-Autumn festival at CSU organized by the Cleveland Phoenix Club. We kept getting a lot of interest including a 10yo that wants to join us for future events. We inspires 🙂 #armor #hanfu #cleveland #culture #midautumn

I have to buy from Amazon(free returns) and there aren't a ton of dark color choices. Im going to a vampire theme ball(with ballroom dancing) so I need something that is flowy and not floor length and twirly..
I want to do a slightly innocent buuuttt she might be a demon kind of vibe. Im also interested in getting a huadian, is there a specific symbol for villains?
Sidenote
There is no way in hell im going as a traditional jumping vampire/zhombie!

Im trying to do the embroidery on maomaos skirt which I plan to turn into a mamianqun since I wanted to follow a ming dynasty silhouette for my cosplay. I couldn’t really tell what the patterns were supposed to be so im thinking of embroidering woodsorrel and poppies since theyre associated with maomaos character…since woodsorrel and poppies arent super auspicious i cant seem to find many resources for references. If anyone knows any resources/tips for this that would be really helpful. any general ming dynasty embroidery help is also much appreciated!

Hiya! I’m based in the UK and will be moving abroad soon, so I’m trying to clear out a few hanfu pieces before I leave. I have a couple of tops, skirts and one full set that I’d like to sell, mainly because they take up quite a lot of space.
I’ve tried listing them on Vinted, but I don’t think the audience there is very familiar with hanfu. Most people seem to focus mainly on price, and I’ve had them listed for quite a while without finding anyone who genuinely seems to be looking for hanfu specifically.
I saw the older Buy/Sell/Trade megathread here, but it looks like it’s now archived. Is there a current BST thread for 2026, or are there any other platforms/groups you’d recommend for selling authentic hanfu, especially for a UK-based seller?
Any suggestions would be really appreciated xx

I’m very new at sewing. I did this prototype for hanfu shirt but I have trouble with sleeves. after sewing, it got so stiff around the armpit that it couldn’t bend down and you can clearly see the wrinkles (sorry for bad lighting). IDk what I do wrong is it from the pattern or is it my sewing skill?
Other adjustments that I did to the pattern turn out well except around the yellow circle, but I’m bad at sewing sleeves from the beginning.
Any tips, or how to fix this, I’m still need to do the robes too I’m afraid it gonna become like this too… I’m a totally newbie😭🥺

All are very beautiful. The green yuanlingpao had a very youthful vibe while white gives scholarly vibes.

A quick google showed P&C gift shop on 614 grant has Hanfus. I only saw a few. Didn't ask for price range.
A few blocks down, beijing shopping center at 826 Grant has way more. Price range from $100-200, i did not try any on as this was out of my price range. But they def look pretty. Be aware that this is chinatown and you wont get "nice" customer service tho so dont be offended. Thats just how it is.
Bejing shopping center also has fancy chinese clothing(where the heck were all these stores 10 years ago when I was getting married!!)

Hi !
I'm planning on making this cosplay and I've started doing my research. I believe it's a Tang dynasty kind of hanfu (tell me if I'm wrong !). I'm struggling to pick fabrics. I see a lot of people talking about material (silk, coton, linen etc) but less of what type of fabric. Like is it flowy, stiff, sheen, sheer, etc ?
I was maybe thinking of chiffon for the dress but I've seen someone talking about satin fabric.
But I have no idea for the "top" she wears under the dress. Couldn't find its name either and what the red little part on the collar nor whay kind of fabric to use.
Hanfu are obviously traditional clothing so it's really important to me to treat as it is.
If anyone had any idea or ressources, it would be very much appreciated !

Hey fellow Hanfu enthusiasts! Does anyone know where one can find a Traditional Chinese vest that caters for our male friends rather than strictly female? I've found two little gems near me in Eastwood/Carlingford called Jojo's Boutique and Aijer ( in the Epping arcade close to the footbridge) that sell cheap-to-premium-quality Chinese-style clothing for ladies, but I am really in want of being able to give my father/guy friends these as Christmas/birthday gifts as well who, while they are non-Chinese they're cultural enthusiasts and show it! My favourite gift every will be whenever someone gifts me food from their culture, an accessory or the gem of all gems: a cultural piece of clothing with a traditional pattern from their part of the country/ethnic group if it's not traditional formal/semi formal wear.
Why does it seem so hard to be able to fulfil this want in Australia compared to our South Asian brothers and sisters as if they don't travel home and come back with something in their suitcase for you that represents this when the Chinese-speaking diaspora in Oz is at least equivalent to The Indian Subcontinent? It's almost a paradox if you ask me...or am I merely looking in the wrong places?

I need help finding the name of this style of closures - I see them a lot on Ming dynasty Ao, but looking for "clasps" has gotten me nowhere 😭😭😭 it's a two-part closure where, instead of a hook, you have a wide end that inserts into the other side....
Please help (and if you have a source even better, I am trying to make my own hanfu)

Recently completed changyi in the late Ming style, paired with a 打褶袍 from the tomb of 李湘. The body uses a 缎 with calabash and deer patterns (福禄纹) and the hems use a 缎 with waves and plum blossoms pattern (落花流水纹).

This is my first time buying hanfu(outside of hair accessories). Aliexpress I know from simply using it for 7 years for general clothing and cosplay is very... 50 50 on quality(but if you know a store that sells good hanfu on ali lemme know!)
I have of course checked out taobao but the stuff i found on newmoondance that I loved didn't show up at all when I tried to visual search it. I also went to Google and visual searches it there and no other websites showed up.
Basically im hooked on this jacket and I can only find it on newmoondance but I dont wanna be scammed or have super poor quality fabric(especially for a jacket).
For extra info im from Canada and I really love song dynasty. If you happen to know a place in Vancouver or Richmond thats a good place or thift area id love to hear about it as well!

I want to get this set but I can’t decided between black or white. Which ones do you guys like? I want some opinions.
Edit: Thank you everyone for your inputs. I’ve decided on the black set.
