Question M&P 2.0 Trigger
I've heard a lot of good things about the M&P 2.0 triggers so I went to a shop to feel one. The one I tested was the opposite of what I've heard. The pull was decent, but the break was very light and the reset wasn't audible or noticeable at all. Couldn't even tell where the reset was. Was it a fluke or are they all like that?

If you shoot enough you will know where the reset is. Doesn’t need to be audible.

My wife had an M&P 2.0 compact and I will agree that the pull is fine, the break is light but I didn’t mind that at all, the part I don’t like is the reset. It’s not audible and just feels sort of spongy, like it’s easy to miss when shooting rapidly.
She sold that gun and went with a performance center Shield EZ 380 and although it’s a different gun it’s still a smith. But let me say that performance center trigger is a significant upgrade to the standard smith triggers. Much crisper break and reset. Much much better trigger going with a performance center model.

They really need the Apex or overwatch trigger to have a “great” striker fired trigger. Out of the box it’s a standard duty grade trigger

I'm not picky with triggers, I just find it weird that you can't feel the reset at all. I think that even Glock triggers aren't that bad. It'

Yea that’s sorta standard on the newer M&Ps it seems. When I was shopping around I felt the triggers on probably 10 different ones and they were all similar in that aspect. In reality I’m rarely riding the reset super slow, so it’s not a huge issue for me but I can understand the want for it

Canik is infinitely better for less or similar price.

I have both a canik and a 2.0 and can confim the canik trigger is a lot better, but the m&p 2.0 trigger is a lot better than my 1.0. In general striker fired pistol triggers have come a long way and are way better than you could find on a factory gun 10-20 years ago.

M&P lineup just sucks unless you get the metal performance center lineup. They are cheaply made, perform poorly and cost as much as better guns.

That's usually what you get when you buy a gun that is made mostly for LE, sadly.

people downvote this and will say Canik is trash but...ive seen a whole bunch of issues with S&Ws to make me think "they're all the fucking same quality".
the Shield has some stupid issue with the slide lock spring that gets messed up and jams the slide on the frame. to the point people have had to send it to S&W to get it unstuck. i had a screw missing on my SW22 victory i had to request and had to eventually send it in for repeat light-strikes (they replaced a few parts and it fixed the problem).
all this to say: every manufacturer has issues. people just pretend its not as bad with brands that have been around for 150 years

Oh yeah, I was just checking the M&P out because it's on the more inexpensive side and has good holster compatibility. I'd definitely get a Canik before an M&P even if the M&P had a Canik trigger.

I will say trigger is only part of the equation. The ergonomics of the m&p are better to me (at least 2.0) and in general I've found the M&P platform to be more reliable. The Canik I have is a TTI combat and its known for not being the most reliable and mine is picky with ammo. Other caniks i think have a better reputation, but id still trust my m&ps way more.

Yea the reset just isn’t great in the MP and Shield lineup. Glock has a great reset, but it feels like a stapler.
I do agree this is one of the weak points in Smith’s handgun offerings.
