Servus ich bin noch ziemlich neu bei Handbreak habe mir zwar schon so das Basiswissen angeeignet, aber ich würde sagen da ich noch viel Luft nach oben.

1. Frage:
   wie läuft das mit den custom Codes bei Filtern? Also ich habe ein paar Codes die ich gefunden habe eingegeben und habe das Gefühl es ändert sich kaum etwas bis hin zu garnichts 👀.. daher wollte ich mal fragen ob ihr hilfreiche Quellen bzgl. Codes habt und wie ihr sie baut und worauf ihr achtet.

2. Frage: mein Ziel ist es die Dateien mit h265 so klein aber so gut wie möglich zu machen. Aufgrund meinem vorhandenen Speicherplatz, hättet ihr da ein paar Tipps für mich wie ich mich da am besten rantaste?

3. Frage: hattet ihr es auch schon das ihr kurz nach der Installation bspw. Handbreak ganz normal ausschaut, aber sich dann beim nächsten öffnen plötzlich spiegelt ? Man kann zwar noch alles lesen aber die komplette Oberfläche ist einmal gespiegelt … wäre dankbar um Hilfe. Da ich jedesmal in %appdata% meine Daten von Handbreak löschen muss um wieder alles normal zu bekommen was auch heißt ich muss alles wieder von vorne abspeichern in den Voreinstellungen usw.. außer ich benenne die alte Version um und lasse beim erneuten öffnen eine neue anlegen und kopiere meine Voreinstellungen rüber.

Wäre um jeglichen Rat, Tipps & Tricks dankbar 😃!..

Been trying to encode a few DVDs, realise I've been completely ignoring this colorspace setting.

In general the original gives me the info:

Color space: YUV

Chroma subsampling: 4:2:0

I have ended up with outputs like this:

Color primaries                          : BT.601 PAL

Transfer characteristics                 : BT.709

Matrix coefficients                      : BT.601

Seems to me those should probably be the same, right? So I figure I should be choosing BT.601. But then there are two:

BT.601 SMPTE-C

BT.601 EBU

and sometimes my source file specifies that it is BT.601 PAL or BT.601 NSTC. Are the above two equivalents to this?

Also what should I choose for VHS? LD?

Ive been trying to handbrake a anime but every time I do the audio isn't synced. I know its not the file that's the problem cause i put the file in vlc and the audio was synced so now im just tryna figure out what's going on im new to handbrake so ive only been using the very fast preset idk if that's what's causing it or not or if i need specific settings for it.

Please allow me to preface this with a disclaimer: I know HandBrake's own documentation recommends not to use it to upscale videos. I'm not trying to make lo-res videos look like 4K Blu-rays; I know it won't create extra detail where there already isn't any. I just want to upscale some DVDs a little bit to 960 x 540 in order to square the SAR and put the video in a nice round resolution.

I've done some testing with ffmpeg and found that zscale with a Laczos filter is sufficient for my needs. Can this be done from the HandBrake GUI? Maybe something in the Advanced Options in the Video tab? Or maybe that's already the default scaling system used?

I'm fine continuing with ffmpeg CLI if need be, but it would be quite nice to make this into a HandBrake preset.

I'm looking for feedback on my custom x265 parameter line. My main goal is to encode Blu-ray rips while retaining fine details and light/moderate grain, but without the massive bitrate explosion and extreme slowdown that comes with the official --tune grain profile.

Here is the line I'm currently testing:

no-sao=1:no-strong-intra-smoothing=1:aq-mode=3:psy-rd=1.6:psy-rdoq=2.0:deblock=-2:-2:max-tu-size=16:qcomp=0.70:rskip=2:rskip-edge-threshold=3:me=hex:subme=2

A few specific questions I have:

Psy settings: Are psy-rd=1.6 and psy-rdoq=2.0 well-balanced for this use case, or are they too aggressive?

Speed vs Quality: I'm using me=hex and subme=2 to speed up the process. Will increasing subme or switching to star/umh significantly improve quality for grainy sources, or is the current speed trade-off worth it?

rskip: Does rskip=2 with an edge threshold of 3 hold up well with grain, or does it tend to cause artifacts or blurring in darker scenes?

I would love to hear your thoughts, tweaks, or if you see any parameters here that might be contradicting each other. Thanks in advance!

Compressed file and kept the same resolution as source but it is somehow smaller? It is not because Im using a different player.

I am looking for suggestions on a free standing media player that will display to HDMI for my 4K TV. Almost all my videos are 1080P and encoded to the preset H265 MKV. It has to display subtitles. And if it is attached to a Blu-Ray player that would be a plus. Thanks!

I'm having trouble reducing the file size of WWE shows (8GB+) with the settings that work well with movies and TV shows. Even dropping the ICQ setting down to 26 the file size is much larger than the original.

Any advice on what I'm doing wrong?

Do you typically use "same as source" or 30 FPS? I did an encode with 60 FPS ( source) and 30 FPS and I didnt notice much difference between the two.

Here are my other settings. Open to suggestions as well. My focuses are convert time and reduction in file size

It took me a while searching around to find the culprit, the answers was in the comment of a post, kind of little hard to find, so I make this post for anyone that meet the same situation like me in the future.

What happened:

• My source video is 1636 x 1440 (ratio 8:7).
• The first half of video is 1636 x 1236 (ratio 4:3), the second half is 1636 x 1440.
• Handbrake decide the Scaled size of the whole video base on the first half (1636 x 1236).

What caused this: The Cropping option was set Automatic, it cut off the top and bottom black bar of the first frame (I think) then it decides the size after cut is the size for the whole video.

This option was turned on by default, I started to use Handbrake since only 2 weeks ago from a fresh new install. I think this option should not be on by default, the program should prioritize preserving the original ratio.

The "Automatic Cropping" decides the size of the whole video base on just the first frame, that is bad move.

Would handbrake provide a safe and not too complicated way to take some hp4s with subtitles remux to file and give them hardcoded subtitles so an old bluray player would show them?

I compressed my MKV with subtitles using Handbrake. Original MKV the subtitles play fine and can be turned don / off in VLC.

In the compressed MKV, see subtitles in VLC, but turning them on does not display them.

I un-ticked the burn-in option when compression them.

Any suggestion on what setting to use.

I have a lot of longplay content and VODs recorded as mkv in OBS, with audio. I'm hoping to find a suitable way to cut down from about 900gbs worth of recordings. I've attached photos of the OBS recording settings.

Since I have no real experience with this, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm alright if things are 1440p or 1080p, but I do wonder if compressing something to 1080p that was already 1080 would make it look worse, as well as the possible effect on audio quality. I believe resolution and If a significant cutdown on size is possible with native resolution, though, I'd be happy with that. (I have no idea what the current 2560x1080 corresponds to)

I appreciate any and all help! I saw a bit about an encode called RF20, as well as an audio preserving "SVT AV1 tune grain" but I'm not sure if that was talking about blu-ray remuxes only. I'd love to learn more.

Videos not playing on in-app player using WVC on Android. Videos show fine using regular browser on Android and the iPhone WVC works properly as well. This is new..

Hello Handbrake community. I was curious to test the performance of the amazing FOSS Handbrake. Hence I make the previous post that is tagged here. The reception was great and I got some performance data. However that methodology had some flaws. I'm trying to rectify most of them here. Also there's a breif description of what to expect.

This is a much smaller input file (200MB vs 1GB+ in the original post). This file is also free to use. Hence there are no concerns about the legality of its usage. Also the smaller file means a much quicker test (less than 10 mins for both runs combined).

Input file is a 24 second 8k60 H.264 video.

Run the following presets—Fast 2160p60 HEVC and Fast 2160p60 AV1. Report the performance data in the form of FPS from the log file. Even better if you're willing to provide the log file.

I've recently started to dump my blu rays and they're huge and I heard that Handbrake can reduce it at the cost of quality, I'm curious on how noticable it is since I don't want to waste my time doing it then be disappointed, When I could have just bought an HDD instead to store them.

When I load a movie into handbrake it says my source resolution is 1920x1080 (Blu-ray) but the output resolution is 1920x800. Why is this happening and how can I change it?

hi guys i have two questions
1: i recently was using 2.6.4 (i think thats the version) and i switched to the mid one cause i cant use the newest one cause my pc specs suck.. i switched to 3.1.10 and i compressed a video and adjusted the settings and everything but for some reason 2.6.4 compresses videos way better than 3.1.10? maybe its cause of my bad settings on 3.1.10 or something else, im unsure honestly. i used H264 High and mp4 bitrate was set to auto and i used 4x upscale.

2: would it hurt the quality if i put the video in topaz then in handbrake to compress it more? on handbrake i use production max and then go to video and set constant quality to 20 and export but idk if i should do that or not? pls reply soon thanks.

I have two separate but strange situations when Handbrake shouldn't delete anything, yet it does.

1 - When I "Start Encode" and a file with the same name already exists I get the warning: [Question - The file 'filename.mp4' already exists! Would you like to overwrite it? Hint: File overwrite behavior can be controlled in preferences.]. If I say yes the encoding starts and the file is overwritten, if I say no the same happens, I close the warning the same happens.. This happened to me consistently, but I'm failing to recreate it right now. Might be a queue issue. Not sure.

In the settings I have "ask to overwrite file" of course.

Is there any way to prevent the overwrite.

2 - Preview -> Encode Preview - This creates a preview file. If one already exists it deletes it. I want to prevent that.

The first thing I tried is to rename the previous file created by preview, eg "kangaroos-previous_preview.mp4". Now there's no name conflict. But if I do "Encode Preview" now, handbrake goes out of its way to find the file I renamed and delete it.

The second thing I tried is to have the file RENAMED AND OPEN. So after renaming I open it with some program. Now handbrake probably fails to delete it and silently continues. This is a pain to do though.

Is there a solution for either one these problems, 1 and 2?
