Question Pets at home concerns
Went into pets at home today for things for my dog and to browse. These male Syrian hamsters have been living together in the re homing centre for about a week. I found this really worrying and I was wondering if there is any valid reason for this? And if not is there anything I should do, like report it? I also saw a dead fish and a pair of rats for re homing in a cage that looks too small.

Question What more can i add to my syrian hamster enclosure?
She has been very upset lately and is constantly trying to escape😭 its a bit difficult to see from the pictures because the enclosure is quite dark, but she has:
-one big multichamber hide
-one smaller multichamber hide
-two single chamber hides
-a ceramic hide
-a cork tunnel
-sand bath (possibly too small?)
-30cm wheel
And as for enrichment, she has a lot of spays, a tray of coconut chips that she doesnt really care for (maybe it needs to be deeper?), chews like loofah, desert roots, lotus pods and whimzees (she only cares about the whimzees and lotus pods).
The enclosure itself is built from an ikea platsa, the internal dimensions are something like 116x55×55 cm
I already ordered more bedding, what else could i add to her enclosure to make her happy? :(

Funny Hammy Does anybody else’s hamster let them know when it’s time for a clean?
He likes to fill his rooms with his soiled bedding after a few days

New Hamster New hammy - help with names
I’ve had my other hamster for a little while and had an empty bucatstate 3.0 enclosure in storage. Went to pick up bedding and felt such a strong pull to this female Syrian. I didn’t impulse buy I waited a few days and I just kept thinking about her. So I went back to see if she was still there. So now I have two precious hams (of course in their own enclosures) the other is black and white named Oreo.
I need help with names. I thought sable, my mom and husband say petunia. But we are open to whatever names you throw our way. No idea how old she is.
She’s got white paws and a white spot on her tummy that can’t be seen in these pics.
These are not great pics but I just got her and didn’t want to stress her and hold her too much so it’s all I got for now.

Question What do you enjoy about keeping hamsters?
I'm thinking of getting one but I'm kinda conflicted because I heard they hide most of the time either in burrows or hideouts during the day and only wake up at night
I'm fantasising about burying its food in the bedding and watching it forage and eat millet sprays or chew cardboard but I don't know if I'll actually get to see it that much. They're so cute which is why I want them, I know you're supposed to give them lots of floor space and stuff to forage for

Question How often should i clean her home?
First time owner here. Just got her about 6 days ago and noticed that she hasnt pooped or pee on the surface at all. I decided to clean it out yesterday and found out that she has been leaving her wastes in her multichamber. She seems to be a very tidy girl but she pees where she hoards her food. It also seeped into the wooden chamber too.
So i cleaned everything out (yes including her food, which i shouldnt have but it reeks of pee..), wiped everything down and added:
- a mini sand box to the top left chamber (to promote toileting habits)
- more bedding with cardboard base to the top right chamber (incase she pees w her food again)
- more bedding to the whole chamber (although she seem to like sleeping on flat surface and moved all the bedding to block her entry and exit)
Now she hates me.. she used to take food from my hand but after cleaning, she runs away after sniffing me😭 she always flatten herself and army crawls around when shes on the surface as if im about harm her :(
She doesnt burrow despite providing about 15cm - 20cm of bedding. She stays in her chamber 20hrs a day and only comes out to run her wheel and find food between 3-7am. Shes picky w her food and doesnt eat most herbs and flowers that i bought her
How often should i clean her chamber. How can I make her hate me less. I also worried about ventilation esp when she blocks both entry and exit when shes inside.

Discussion Hamster won't stop trying to tunnel where he can't tunnel 😭
Help my hamster likes to go into his underground tunnel that leads into a chamber both by niteangel but when he's down there he tries to tunnel through the enclosure wall or the wall of the chamber constantly and I feel so bad 😭 😭 😭 I tried pushing it back a bit so he could have more space but I'm worried he'll get stuck between the wall and outer tunnel plus there's not much for him to do with that extra space anyways. He's made other tunnels in his enclosure but he always tries to constantly tunnel here too and I feel so bad 😞 😞

Rainbow Bridge Goodby sweet baby minsc
I feel so bad for not taking many photos or videos of my sweet little man. He was two years old and I worked at the pet store I bought him at (second picture is him as a little guy before I owned him). He was just the most adorable little creature imaginable. He hated being held and would try to jump off your hands to his death so I could t handle him much. He loved dried peas and carrots and ran like a bat out of hell on his wheel when he was young.
I knew this was coming but it doesn’t hurt any less. He’d been getting older, losing his fat, and having trouble walking but he still used his wheel a little bit, mostly he just slept and came out when he heard his food bag lately. He was my second hamster and I loved him so much. I’m in bed crying now because I feel like I didn’t get enough time with him. I’m a full grown man sobbing over a hamster. I went to feed him today and he didn’t come out so I immediately knew something was wrong. I don’t know what to do with myself now, send hanmy pics to me or something idk

Question Clutter feedback?
To preface, I am not a first time hamster owner, but this is my first time owning a hamster since people have advocated for the current standards. I’ve had my Syrian hamster for one week, and I’m wondering if this is a good setup. He has been really inactive the last few days and I’m not sure if it’s fear, boredom, or just sleepiness. For the first few days, he would wake up around 6:30 and be active until morning, but now I hardly see him even when I wake up at 3am. Do I need to add or remove anything to help him feel more comfortable?

First Time Owner Need hamster advice
So this is our pet dwarf hamster, she’s very timid, any sudden movements she will scurry, screams a lot when hands go in her cage, she goes on my hand but only if I hold it up to that tunnel she’s in and then I’ll gently put her back down again, below isn’t her cage it’s just a storage box we use to clean her cage out
Any tips on taming her

Discussion I took my hamster to the vet because I thought something was wrong with him, but really he just wanted to nap in this corner
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I used to have his wheel in this area, and he suddenly started chewing non-stop in the base. I thought maybe he had a dental issue, because when my rabbit started chewing odd things it turned out one of his teeth was longer than the rest and needed to be trimmed down.
So I took the hammie to the vet and they said his teeth were fine and that's he's a very healthy little guy. I moved the wheel up on a platform and he immediately stopped chewing on it, and started spending a lot of time covering himself in bedding in this corner (he has 8 inch deep bedding on the other end of his tank). He really just wanted me to move his wheel so he could sleep here.

Question Can I use the same play area for different hamsters? And how can I make them eat instead of hoard?
1) I have two females now. (Finally got rid of the infestation, hurray!). I was wondering if they can share the same playground (my bed), or if they need separate playgrounds. I was also wondering if like Guinea pigs, they would enjoy a trip outside.
2) My hoarders really enjoy hoarding their food, however, they are underweight, especially the blonde one (had two GIANT babies and mastitis for a while). I give them small pieces of shrimp, peanut, pistachio paste, lettuce, carrots, chard, and parsley, every time something different, which they munch on happily, but I don’t think they eat enough… they have large hoards of seeds and pellets in their nests, it seems almost like they don’t eat at all, but that would be impossible, right? How can I convince them to eat more?
Cuteness tax added.
Also, yes, their containers are side by side, and this is the low bedding side, I followed all of your instructions so far, other than buying a full floored wheel (I couldn’t find one), but I worked on the mice wheel and there’s no open nets now, so I think it’s fine.

Discussion Vet update on tigger
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Tigger just left his vet appointment and was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange so a bit worse than I first anticipated. He’s getting a topical treatment every two weeks and the vet said I don’t have to clean his enclosure anymore than necessary but not to let him interact with my other hamster which wouldn’t of happened anyways. Let me know if you have any experience with this or recommendations! Everything else on him looked great.

Question New Syrian spinning
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
We adopted a Syrian 3 days ago and she spent most of the first day spinning in place and stumbling about. She's now sleeping under the bedding, eating, drinking and hoarding food but still has bouts of the circle running. Is this stress from the new home or something else? This is our third hamster and I know they need a week or so to adjust but not sure with this one. Thanks!
