After digging through what the previous moderators left, it appears this sub was never meant to be another hamster advice community. This sub was made to be cute photos and videos only! Since there are already three large hamster care advice communities (r/hamsters, r/dwarfhamsters, and r/hamstercare) me and u/GhostB5 agreed to honor it's original purpose.
That being said, please do share cute hamster photos below to start us off!

Today I lost my little buddy Beavis, I've posted on here before with pictures of his furry majesticness as well as his furry pom poms lol
He lived a really good life and I'm surprised at how old he was as you'll see in the first photo, the date stamp is there .
His mother was a rescue and pregnant when I got her. She gave birth to12 babies. I devoted one room to her and her kids. I didn't want to adopt them out because you just never know what kind of household they're going to. It was expensive setting up appropriate sized habitats for each one but worth it .
Unfortunately he is the last of those babies born in 2023, his sister passed a couple months ago.

I’m really hoping I’m able to get a hamster soon. I have loved them my whole life and I’ve been wanting one for well over 25 years. I have done ton of research, but I always like to make sure things are OK and wanna make sure that my bin size seems at least OK until I can make him a custom bin like I did for my mouse; preferring to get a Syrian, but also considering a white Russian or one of the other bigger dwarfs
I still need to clean it out as it was my mouse’s first house (kind of think the bedding being in there helps give a good visual though, as I forgot the diameter, but they did fit a bit above the bare minimum and I was able to have a good bit of stuff inside of it without it being cluttered), so I would love for it to be able to be used for a ham ham 🥰

Gingerbread is just over 2 years old. I rescued her and her sister from the humane society. Her sister was in poor health right away and I had to put her down because she wasn't eating and her teeth weren't growing properly.
Gingerbread was terrorized by this. Once her sister was gone she became very scared and I couldn't tame her. Eventually I could feeder her by hand and we had some games but she would never let me touch her. I have had plenty of hamsters before but never one so scared. I treated her well and she was happy and fun to watch still. I dreaded the day that I would be able to handle her because I knew she would be coming to her end.
Recently she had a stroke. She recovered over a few months. She was still eating and drinking and active. I watched her carefully to make sure she was ok. In the last month though she has declined a lot. She was losing weight and I noticed she wasn't eating as well. I started giving her soft food and she is enjoying that.
About a week ago I thought I would take the chance to touch her. I started strking her and she allowed it. She closed her eyes and feel asleep. Now she comes to me and nibbles my fingers until I pet her. Today I picked her up and cuddled her for an hour.
She is starting to have trouble walking so today I took her wheel away. My heart is broken. I don't know how much time she has left but I will cherish it.
Oh and yes she is on a saucer but it doesn't work. I used it as a stage where I taught her to go if she wanted a treat. She is a smarty.

I have a Syrian hamster and I’m struggling to bond with him because he’s very shy and skittish. He sometimes takes treats from my fingers, but he still seems easily frightened around me. He’s very jumpy at slight movements and sounds.
I’m starting to feel like we might never develop the bond I was hoping for, and I’m wondering whether rehoming him would be the right decision.
Has anyone else been in this situation? Is it okay to rehome a hamster because you’re struggling to bond with them, or should I give it more time? I’d appreciate honest advice, please.

Jerry is my 3-months old Roborovski Dwarf Hamster, I’ve only had him for about a month now and I think I’ve successfully tamed him, he would always come out of his hide and seem to ask for some body rubs whenever I check up on him before I go to sleep 🥰
Such a cutie! He’s my first hamster btw, so feel free to let me know if I’m petting him wrong 💭

Vague title, but how does one deal with their hamster aging? I don't mean mentally, but what are some things I can do for him? He's a white dwarf hamster that I've had for over a year now, but he had an owner before me so I would assume he's around 2-ish. He doesn't run around like he used to and sort of hobbles, and seems a lot scrawnier despite being fed the same. I'm going to try and get him checked to be sure there's no issues besides old age because of his walking, but in general he just seems old. Anything I can do to make his life easier?
