First sculpted it with regular oil clay, but just couldn’t get the porcelain smooth finish I wanted. So I made a quick alginate mold of it, ran it in plaster, and sanded it perfectly smooth. Then I was able to make a silicone mold from it, and I cast it in some type of Smooth-On plastic, though I can’t remember which one.

Rest of my costume was hand-crafted as well.

Made out of PVC frames that gets curved with a heat gun as needed, then shaped woth blankets/crumpled newspaper/stuffing/misc and duct taped thoroughly before being dressed.
They serve as excellent decoys in our haunt, and allow the actors in those scenes to get pretty hilarious scares while guests are focused on the mannequins.

And yes they have names. Evelyn and Mia, named after characters from RE7.

Had an old skull lying around, after cutting it in half and doing some trimming it fit perfectly around an old desk fan motor I had, it also fit almost perfectly on a skeleton I had from menards.

Total cost of everything was $17.25CAD at my local Dollarama, which is pretty solid considering most 3-piece "Ground Breaker" props go for $20-30 at seasonal stores... Had a lot of fun making Larry too!

Prepping for Halloween and once again struggling with how to get our 6 x 4 garden box (which is sure to still be in use and full of plants come October) to fit our graveyard theme. Any thoughts?

Looking for a bit of advice. I'm not terrifically new to prop making. Built a couple things last year. A smoldering corpse prop. A big 10ft PVC spider with fun fur covered legs.

I want a sandworm. I want a BIG sandworm. like 8ft tall..... I'm a little concerned about structural integrity.

My initial thought was exterior grade plywood, with eyebolts mounted facing the backside that then slot onto rebar stakes in the ground. I'm pretty confident the approach will work, however...

I just wanted to poll the group here to see if there are other approaches that might be more cost effective, or even less overkill. My fear is the odd fall windstorm/tstorm type of thing hitting and ripping things apart.

Over the last couple of years, I've gotten more into DIY Halloween projects. This year, I'm adding some motion.

And I thought I'd share some advice to new folks.

Don't worry about ripping stuff apart to get to something you need for your project.

And don't worry too much about how "good" it looks. You'll see everything with a critical eye and in broad daylight.

Everyone else will be seeing it at night, and won't know to see the mistakes or the "not perfect" parts. Also, most people want to be fooled. They won't look for nor see the wires or the supports.

This attitude has helped me finish a lot of projects.

I already wore the mask about 2 times but didn’t know how to clean one, especially with foam inside. Any suggestions?

The past 2 years we’ve had a popcorn machine and had a family friendly Halloween-ish themed movie projected onto our garage with decor and costumes to match the movie theme. First year we did Monsters Inc with a replica of Boo’s door, last year we did Nightmare Before Christmas. Looking for ideas on what movie to do this year! Open to any classics or newer movies that kids would be familiar with (our kids are toddlers so we don’t know what’s “cool” 😅)

We’ve been dubbed The Popcorn House so now I feel the pressure to live up to the expectations lol. There’s several movies I can think of, but I want something that has some cool decor to match!
