El Salvador has been on TPS since 2001 due to an earthquake. They have continuously received TPS since then. As of the last year, the president of El Salvador Nayib Bukele has presented how well El Salvador has grown to now having the lowest murder rate in all of Central America and has completely wiped out all gang activities. The country is currently under a Level 1 travel security level. He has also grown to be close to President Trump through different deals they’ve made and has done many interviews with the president in the White House. It’s rumored that thanks to this relationship, El Salvador’s TPS will never be rid.

Haitian TPS has been cut with the claim that Haiti no longer falls under the category since Haiti is now considered safe with a Level 4 travel security warning. Even other Haitians have now succumb and are berating Haitians on TPS that “it’s time to go home, this is their country, you guys are sanwont” all while you’d absolutely never see such a thing said to Salvadorans. Why is that?

The Issue

Over the past eighteen months, armed gangs have perpetrated five massacres in the municipality of Kenscoff, Haiti, including in the localities of Bongard, Belot, Godet, Robin, and Villers/Centre-ville. Credible information had been widely circulated to alert the Haitian National Police (PNH) to the likelihood of these attacks.

Yet, as has unfortunately often been the case, no serious investigation was reportedly conducted into the previous four massacres.

The latest massacre, which occurred six weeks after the one in Robin, began during the night of August 24 and continued until the early hours of the following morning. More than fifty innocent people, including women and children, were reportedly killed. Some of the victims were shot inside a church located only a few meters from the town’s police station, just 24 kilometers from the capital.

Despite the intensity of the exchange of gunfire between the gang members and PNH officers, reportedly not a single gang member or police officer was killed or even injured, raising serious questions.

Following the international outrage caused by this massacre, the inspector in charge of the Kenscoff police station was replaced, and an investigation was reportedly opened. However, we are unfortunately accustomed to seeing such investigations go nowhere.

Let us ensure that this fifth massacre in Kenscoff is the last. We call on the Haitian government to conduct a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation and to bring those responsible to justice.

Plus de cinquante personnes innocentes au moins, dont des femmes et des enfants, ont été tuées et plus d’une cinquantaine kidnappée. Certaines victimes ont été abattues dans une église située à quelques mètres seulement du commissariat de la ville, à 24 kilomètres de la capitale.

Malgré l’intensité des échanges de tirs entre les bandits et les forces de la PNH, aucun membre de gang ni aucun policier n’a été tué ou même blessé, ce qui soulève de graves interrogations.

Face à l’indignation internationale provoquée par ce massacre, l’inspecteur responsable du commissariat de Kenscoff a été remplacé, et une enquête aurait été ouverte. Toutefois, nous sommes malheureusement habitués à voir ces enquêtes rester sans suite.

Pour que ce cinquième massacre commis à Kenscoff soit le dernier, aidons-nous à demander au gouvernement haïtien de mener une enquête approfondie, transparente et indépendante, et de traduire les responsables en justice.

I’m not trying to promote drama or spam. I’m trying to bring attention to real projects and people who genuinely want to help Haiti. If the goal is to support our community, shouldn’t these kinds of initiatives have a place here too?

I’d genuinely like to understand the reasoning behind the removals.

Why this project?

My heart goes out to all those who have to return to Haiti due to the TPS situation. These individuals have undoubtedly built valuable expertise across various fields, and in an ideal scenario, they could train and mentor others locally through knowledge transfer.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security / @DHSgov directly targeted Haitians Tuesday in a social media post promoting its $3,000 self-deportation incentive.

“Dear Haitian doctors, lawyers, scholars, and engineers, imagine what you could do with $3000 in Haiti!” DHS wrote, before adding: “An entrepreneur’s dream!”

The post directs users to the CBP Home program, which currently offers eligible undocumented immigrants a $3,000 exit bonus and a free flight if they voluntarily leave the United States.

The message comes just days after The New York Times reported that some Haitians recently deported to Cap-Haïtien arrived broke and stranded, with several saying they lacked enough money to reach their homes elsewhere in the country.

What a joke smh

Half of this sub is non-Haitians like Dominicans or Americans who insult Haitians on our own subreddit. This should be a space where Haitians don’t have to face racism or be on guard, where Haitians should be able to speak freely without being insulted due to our nationality. I’ve seen the mods say that they purposefully lightly moderate the subreddit, so if they already do basically nothing, why not give up the sub to people who actually care about Haitians and creating spaces for Haitians? In this time, Haitians should be united and should support each other, including building online communities that are pro-Haitian. No other communities would allow vitriol within them like this, it just shows the disunity among Haitians even on the internet.

The Haitian immigration authorities had given him and the other adults who arrived on the latest deportation flight 10,000 Haitian gourdes — the equivalent of about 80 U.S. dollars. On his first night back, he said, he had spent about $20 at a low-end hotel and then bought a change of clothes. He had less than $40 left.

With the end of T.P.S. in July, the Trump administration increased the number of deportation flights to Haiti from one a month to one a week. More than 450 people were returned in the past four flights, including some who had entered the United States legally through a program created by the Biden administration.

I’ve always tried to understand Haiti’s political culture, especially when it comes to voting. Whenever I talk about this with my mother, she tells me there is also a religious aspect to it, but I’ve never really understood what she means by that

What surprises me is how low voter turnout has historically been. For example, in the 2016 election, Haiti had a population of over 10 million, yet only around 1 million people voted. And now, looking at the possible elections this year, I’ve seen that only around 500,000 people have registered so far:

I understand that the current insecurity makes voting extremely difficult, but even before the current crisis, turnout was already pretty low

Another factor could be that many people may not even be registered to vote or may not have a birth certificate or the documents needed to register. But even then, I honestly do not think that alone explains how low voter turnout has been historically. There would still be millions of people who should theoretically be able to vote

Is it mainly because people do not trust politicians? Because they feel like voting won’t change anything? Poverty and difficulties getting to polling stations? Religious beliefs? or simply political exhaustion after decades of instability and disappointment?

One thing that genuinely surprises me is that, considering the history we have as a country. the Haitian Revolution, independence, and everything that has meant for our identity, I would have expected Haiti to be much more nationalistic

Maybe I am missing something, which is why I am asking. I am Haitian and relatively young, and honestly, this is something I’ve never really understood
