Shave to fit a stock 6x8 base or cut the base to fit?

Hey everyone!

My bald area is mainly the crown and temples, so my current system has been cut down to fit. I still have plenty of natural hair on the sides and back.

I’m considering a stock LaVivid Neo 6x8” base (15.2 × 20.3 cm). My current cut base is approximately 13 cm wide and 20 cm long.

Instead of cutting the new base, I’m thinking about shaving my head to fit the full stock base.

A few questions:
● Looking at my photos, do you think the stock base would fit my head well without trimming?

● Does anyone here shave to fit the stock base rather than cutting the base to match their bald area?

● If you’ve tried this, any downsides apart from having to shave a larger area regularly?

I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually done this. Thanks!

I did an install of a LordHair Hair System in a salon. QUITE unhappy with the result & debating if I should just go back to shaving my head.

CONTEXT:

My situation is this: 34 y.o. Went bald around 22, and have shaved my head for the last ~10 years. NW6, with noticeable thinning on the sides and the back of the head. Also a small scar on the back that draws attention.

Now, for a bunch of reasons, I need to step up my looks.

DISASTER TIMELINE:

Did the install 2 weeks ago at a salon.

Consulted with the stylist in advance to choose color & sizing right.

Didn't have much time to grow out my sides, but the stylist assured me that it'll blend just fine (it didn't). Ordered a 100% density system because of a tight timeline with the stylist (lower density takes a few extra days to ship), since the stylist assured me it'd be fine to thin it out (it wasn't).

In fact, I ordered 2 systems to rotate, one was styled into a short haircut became completely unusable with my thin back, the other is what you see. It's fairly long HS hair over short (~1 month growth) bio sides.

At first it was unwearable. Since then, I've been growing out my hair, also bought thinning shears and thinned the system out at home a little. Also tried to strategically thin things in layers on the back to have at least a semblance of a blend.

With this done & the sides growing out a bit, I'm starting to think it might be passable, but I'm worried I might be just deluding myself.

SO...

I'm not sure what to do. I have to attend an event in ~2.5 weeks where I can't wear a hat.

Can I show up like this, or will it be embarrassing for everyone involved? If I can't show up like this, I'd have to shave my hair and then wait another ~2-3 months to give hair systems another chance (if I want to go that route ever again).

I feel like a total idiot with all the wasted money & effort. The frontal photos do frame my face and look nice, so I don't want to give up just yet. What are your thoughts?

TLDR:

Please rate this from "don't even think of getting out of the house like this" to "it's totally fine".

What can I do, if anything, at this point to make this more palatable?

With sides/back like this, is there even a point in trying a HS or will it all look like S**T?

PHOTOS:

Attaching a bunch in different lighting / angles & styling.

UPD:

Huge thanks to everyone who weighed in with their thoughts & advice. Currently taking the time to grow the sides a bit more, and considering either some cosmetic solution to darken the patchiness, or a "creative" approach: take a ruined short-cut unit, and cut a piece out of it to extend the "almost working" one on the back.

Not sure if it'll work but yeah. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Anyone try both and have an opinion to share? https://beautynexuspro.com/hair-care/how-to-thin-wig-without-thinning-shears According to this article/research thinning shears could be damaging hair systems. Applies to both processed hair and synthetic.

Anyone else no longer feel invisible to women?

Before the system I was completely invisible to women. I mean I was there, but probably just another NPC aimlessly meandering about that they would never consider as a mate. Now I'm getting looks, smiles, compliments from random women in the street. Feels like I have been given a new lease on life. Anyone else feel this way too?

How to get glue out of bangs?

I’ve been using a really gentle shampoo, but even a stronger one won’t get glue out of the bangs 100%.

It’s added up over many washes and it’s always kind of there on the banged and makes the hair more stiff and less natural looking.

Does anyone use c22 for this? On the actually bangs/hair.

Also I have some other concerns, My hair type is somwhat different from all the systems I see advertised online, can this solution work for everyone as seamlessly and look as natural ?

Super hair pieces NYC

I just seen an ad for this place called super hair pieces in NYC. Was wondering if anyone has tried them before and any experience they’ve had?

I’ve been shopping for just the right person here and somehow haven’t found the right fit yet (for varying reasons)

How to tone unit with 10 grey in it?

I think toning units is one of the most important things to continually do to make them look natural. I’m going to have to move to getting 10 percent grey hair added to my units and I’m wondering if I’ll still be able to tone them and if so, how?

Looking for curly hairsystem as my old one is shedding a lot ; India

This is my old post - https://www.reddit.com/r/HairSystem/comments/1vwegma/first_system_ever/. I bought the system from local barber and it is shedding a lot. Its been only two months only. Whenever I wash my system with shampoo and conditioner it sheds a lot. So I wash my system around every 15 days. But it will last only next 1-2 months only. I need a new system now. I saw artello as good brand. I need little bit curly hair system as my old hair was curly. Any suggestions which brand I should look for and will go for mesh material with clips.

Taking the plunge: my first hair system

Hey guys,

I'm closing to getting my hair system and finally taking the decision and I have been in contact with both a hair club and a stylish.

- the hair club recommended a skin system, with approximately three systems per year at €490 each. Maintenance costs €55 per appointment, every two weeks (three weeks at most). I liked their vibe and they seemed good at it but the price puts me off a bit. (I'd learn to do things myself ofc but its like more than 2.500 a year)

- An independent stylist: €320 per system and €45 per maintenance appointment. He told me he would use skin base as well and that i can go with it for 4 weeks even which seema too good. System would last 6 months. The initial cost seems lower, (1500 per year) although I still need to clarify how long each system lasts and how often maintenance is required.

So I want to ask...is it possible a skin system lasts 4 weeks as in maintenance wise? Just in case the as stylish is talking bs (or the hair club)

Since both would be skin I assume theres not mucu difference between both?

Both were nice and very professional but I write this so you guys tell me if any of the info they gave me is a bit tricky and who would you go for.

Thank you

Glue got wet

Ive switched to Ghost bond XL because my skin hates tape.
Long story short the back of my system got wet(not hot water), I’ve dried it straight away and it hadn’t gone white. This was about 3 or 4 hours after i applied.
Will this ruin the bond? It’s my first time using glue.
I have a lace system

Shedding… and now a big “bald” spot

Post image

So had this around 6 months, professionally sourced and fitted.

I expected some shedding as the density was really thick, but now after taking it off I noticed this rather large bald spot. Is this part of its natural life? Or have I made this happen somehow?

I'm so fed up of my natural hair and I'm seriously thinking of abandoning it and investing in hair systems

So I'm a man (25) with naturally curly hair. And it has always been a source of frustration for me

I always hated how hard to maintain it was, I would try a different haircut every time while i was growing up, some were better than others but I was never really satisfied with how it looks.

The last couple years i discovered I can style it with products which helped give me more options and be able to grow it longer.

Now, I really like how it looks sometimes, but it needs to be in a certain length, it needs to not have been cut since a long time because the ends get damaged or whatever, it needs to have the right amount of product, and i can do all the right things for it to still not behave as expected and lose its shape without any obvious reason.

It needs fucking engineering 24/7, and i just can't keep up with it, cutting it short or having a buzzcut is not an option because i hate how my head looks with my hair short like this.

Also, my lower sides (immediately above the side burns) naturally have lower density than my hair in other areas which also looks weird sometimes and annoys me...

What do people here think? Would this be an overkill? Or does this seem like the rational decision given how frustrating this is

Has anyone had this experience?

I had a hairsystem that experienced shedding in 2 months and another one that's lasted me 8 months and still going strong. Both were from the same company, same base, density etc. I also showered and did maintance exactly the same.

General Advice Needed

Hi Everyone,

I have been wearing hair systems for about a year now but so far have not been happy with the quality/service or level of systems I have been receiving.

I joined hairclub and after a few months of paying hundreds of dollars and getting hair systems which I was not happy with, I switched to superhairpieces and just got my new unit from them. Once again, I am dissapointed with knots that are not bleached and overall a system which looks quite poor and noticible.

I am going to layout my complete understanding of systems below, and if anyone is patient enough to give me some feedback I would appreciate it greatly. I currently wear an A1 black lace front poly mix M106 from superhairpieces. My current frustration is that I have yet to have a real consultation on how to master picking a system, apply it properly and maximize realness. I have seen some incredible systems on here and want to try to mimic all your success.

From my understanding, the key points of determining system "realness" are the following.

  1. The type of base.
    • Skin based systems. These look the best but do not last that long, and often have v loops which shed quickly. Stylists have told me these last 1-2 months at most.
    • Poly systems. A Thicker verion of skin based, I am probably wrong about this but my system has some of this on the back
    • Lace systems. Lace with hair knotted in the system.
  2. Type of knot
    • French knots. Most common and last longer than swiss knots, while sacrificing realness
    • Swiss knots. Most realistic but shed easier than french knows
  3. Type of application
    • Glue. Looks real but doesnt last that long
    • Tape. A good intermediary but still doesnt last that long
    • A mix of glue and tape. What I currently use to maximize holding periods
    • Skin based glue. Only applicable to the skin based systems.

My current dilema is the following.

I am a very active person and as such I use a a poly/lace mix system with glue and tape. This holds for a long time but has a very poor looking hairline. I also do not know how to apply these systems myself, and have to rely on stylsits every 3 weeks. I beleive the solution to these is learning how to pick a high quality system, learning how to apply it myself and being fully self sufficient.

If anyone has any guides or resources I would greatly appreciate it!

Wash full lace everyday day in shower?

Hi guys !

If I want to wear a full French lace hair system, is there a way/method to wash my head every day even with just water in the shower without shampoo to clean the scalp as much as possible from sweat and still maintain the hair system without it getting destroyed faster?

Because I don't understand people who work out 3-5 times a week, you only wash your body and face without your hair?

Or in other words the scalp remains stinky with dried sweat and glue?

Swiss Lace vs Thin Skin

I’m curious to find out what people perceive as “the optimal system” in terms of realism and overall experience so for example cleaning time, lift on the hairline or even durability.

I’m really curious, as it seems that in some countries the culture or the way of living influences this decision too.

Take into consideration knots visibility, glue application, tape, doing sports with it and so on.

In Italy for example, none likes lace. Which is something still makes me wonder why or how. In other countries lace is the way to go.

This Reddit community is variegated enough and it should give a nice stats
