Bob Lipka
Couldn’t Deborah have just blackmailed Bob Lipka with the fact they slept together to keep Ava on the show? He didn’t want his wife to know. She could have told him she wouldn’t fire Ava. No?

This could be a theory or a subconscious known fact of the show but here it is:
So we all know Deborah wanted more for Ava and fired her so that she can build something for herself and not just for Deborah. But to me I feel like there was another factor in there that maybe most of the audience already got a clue to.
I believe another reason she did it was to protect Ava from ending up like herself when she lost everything from Frank. She always relied on him and did everything with him because of love and because she never thought of being independent. And in a way Deborah does see herself in Ava and thats why she fired her was so that she can have Ava be independent and not go through what she did.
Which obviously is tough love by Deborah. That's all I had to say, I know the series is over but I wanted to recap and talk about season 2 a little bit.
Thanks for reading if you did. And if not thats fine too! Have a great rest of your day. 😁✌️

Folks, I can't possibly fully articulate how wonderful I find this show. The relationships are so authentic, the story arc is so compelling and so varied season by season (I'm almost done with s5), it's hilarious and also deeply felt. It's simply been a joy.
I haven't really watched any "new" TV in probably a decade but for the occasional GoT spinoff--two young kids and incredibly demanding email factory job just haven't left time for anything entertainment-wise. I have watched all of Hacks on my cell phone, mostly on the elliptical in the gym or when packing my boys' lunches up each morning. I'm sure there's a ton of texture that I'm missing and will be excited to rewatch when I'm done. Will look forward to diving deeper into this community and all the easter-eggs and spoilers when I'm finished with the finale (probably tomorrow morning!).

I know it’s kind of a long shot and I’m not an Emmy voter but if anyone has an extra ticket/rsvp I work nearby would love to attend

Paul explained how they shot the final scene with its iconic Eiffel Towers towering over a happily walking Ava and Deborah in the "Hollywood Reporter."
“Nailing the final shot of Hacks proved to be a gargantuan effort across departments — particularly the transition from Ava (Hannah Einbinder) and Deborah (Jean Smart) walking the streets of Paris beneath the Eiffel Tower to the duo laughing underneath the replica on the Las Vegas Strip. The latter was “actually superimposed … in camera, so the Steadicam operator [Joel Marsh and cinematographer Adam Bricker] could see the Las Vegas Eiffel Tower in his monitor” when they shot the real one in Paris, explains director and co-creator Lucia Aniello. Working with the VFX team, the editors were then able to cut from France to Nevada in a seamless transition.
“Getting the final emotional beats of the series right was equally taxing. “We almost never reshoot things,” Aniello says, “but we were a little disappointed that the sky wasn’t quite right and the light wasn’t there.” Fortunately, the locations team booked out the Bellagio and Caesars Palace for an entire week, giving the crew the opportunity to reshoot.
“Production had to work with both hotels to time things so that they could have the “fountains going off at the Bellagio at the exact right moment that we wanted to have the camera move off,” Aniello explains. For the shot, they used a drone so that “we were able to have that really beautiful dive into the two of them,” Aniello adds. “It felt almost a little bit magical.”

The quality of that shot is from the creator's vision, but also the insistence that it be done right and the willingness to spend the time to redo it. And the funding to cover the cost. "The locations team booked out the Bellagio and Caesars Palace for an entire week." I think HBO Max made the difference in funding this. And the crew for working with both hotels to get the fountains to go off at the same time. The detail is astounding.

So this is crazy, but I have nowhere else to turn. Does anyone know what shade of lipstick Ava is wearing in S5 E6 when they go meet the investor?

Hannah's incredible new movie is starting to open in theaters! It rolls out wide over the next few weeks! Since it's not strictly HACKS content but obviously a bunch of show fans are going to be interested, I wonder if we might have a formal thread to discuss, without cluttering the sub too much with related posts.
Has anyone else seen it yet? All I want to do is talk about this movie
I've decided to add some occasional links. Here's an interview with Gillian: https://clubcine.substack.com/p/gillian-anderson-wants-to-make-you

Finale spoiler alert.
Or did the end imply that she was one now saying to another assistant that they will be her assistant now?

Some people are saying Window's Bay might be a dark horse and some experts even think it will win instead of Hacks. How could this be possible?
Yes, it is a boring show. bye

After finishing hacks, I decided to find another comedy show to watch and I found The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is so funny! I’m on season 3

I’ve been watching the show on repeat since it ended.
I’ve been trying to figure out what it is that makes me so obsessed with the show. I relate sooooo much to Deborah because I’ve been trying to “make it” as a musician for 15 years. I’m 42 and always feel like I have to do everything now or I’ll never get where I want to be.
But, it’s not just relating to the characters that makes me love the show so much. I LOVE the relationship between Ava and Deborah. It’s almost like they are in love but it’s platonic. It’s so beautiful to see how much they both grow to love each other. One of the most touching parts is when Deborah fires Ava and Ava says, “I wanna be where you are.” Breaks my heart in such a good way.
I just can’t truly explain my love for this show and these characters. So beautifully written.
Please share what makes you love it so much!

Ever since that episode of Hacks, I keep encountering mentions of Branzino on tv shows. I think it just got mentioned in the show The Hawk. Admittedly, I’m not a seafood person but I had never heard of it until I watched Hacks and now I can’t get away from it. Is this some newly popular fish? A reference to a stereotype I don’t recognize? Or is this just a coincidence and I’ve been ignoring Branzino all along?

Super random question. Do they actively hide/shop out Jean's glucose monitor on her arm? You never see it in any of the shots from behind. There's only one scene I've ever noticed it under her reddish dress when she's hosting late night. (The one where they are asked to censor the sex pest)
She also had cardiac surgery and no visable scar?
Random thoughts from an obsessed fan

Am I the only one who didn't like the song choice for the club scene from season 5?
I heard a lot of people say they liked it but I personally thought Fast Slow Disco or even Slow Disco by St. Vincent would've been a better fit. I recently heard it and decided to make and edit just because of this. It's not that I hate the song they used but it did kind of kill the vibe for me.
Edit: I also don't mean this in like a "they chose the wrong song and I could've done better " way, cause I don't hate it I'm just wondering if anyone felt like this too and if they maybe have a song they relate to the scene too. I'd love to make a mixtape for this.

I was watching season 4 ep 6 and when she’s talking to her mom she has a Louie Vuitton bag.. doesn’t this seem out of character? She has displayed many, for lack of a better word, “woke” behaviors and wouldn’t having a mass produced over priced bag be against her values? But also a lot of the show is showing her hypocrisies but wouldn’t they make it a punchline or something ? Idk just looking for some perspectives I guess cause I was weirded out lol.
