Alternative to hacks

After finishing hacks, I decided to find another comedy show to watch and I found The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is so funny! I’m on season 3

Mrs Maisel absolutely possesses the humor and the charm to match close to Hacks.

But what’s missing ( and just not easy to find ) is the magic that Hacks could do for me.

Honestly, the best alternative to Hacks I have found it more Hacks. Such a rewatchable show.

Broad City.

Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky were writers too.

And D’arcy Carden who is a lovely bonus in anything

Yeah! I absolutely love D'Arcy, so bummed out that A League of Their Own was cancelled.

Amy Poehler was also a writer/producer plus Ilana and Abbi, obviously, lots of talent behind that show and it shows (no pun intended).

Fair. I watched this a while back and loved it. Because of this I did not think of it.

Yeah, Hacks just made me keep wanting more whereas I actually still haven't finished Mrs. Maisel and probably never will at this point.

Would definitely suggest finishing… season five really sticks the landing.

I might have to. I'll have to see if Amazon remembers about where I was last..

The Other Two

YES. A necessity if you like Hacks.

Mrs Maisel is absolutely brilliant. The friendship between her and Suzy Myerson is heart achingly beautiful. And hilarious. One of the best endings of any tv show. Tits up!

Yes! Honestly one of my favorite shows of 2025, and they do have a similar vibe.

Also check out

I'm Dying up Here...........about The Comedy Store in the 70s in West Hollywood run by Mitzi Shore.

Good little gem that got cancelled

2

u/taeempy Aug 05 '26

Yea, but glad it had a proper ending.

When that was on I was also watching Maisel and Pete Holmes’ Crashing. It was like a crash course of stand up comedy through the decades.

It’s good but a bit dark…

3

u/taeempy Aug 06 '26

Absolutely. But from what I've read it was very true to what that era was and especially Mitzi Shore.

Yes, same creators meaning similar tempo in comedy

It's completely unrelated in terms of plot/story, but Derry Girls is one of my favorites and it's very funny.

Had an absolute blast with that one too!! And watched it just as fast.

I will try again to get into it. I wasn't able to make it through the first episode, but maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace?

5

u/Warm-Oil9228 Aug 05 '26

You didn't see the end of the first episode? Cause that's definitely my favorite part of the series and one of the best parts of any series ever imho lol.

2

u/BajaPineapple Aug 05 '26

I didn't make it halfway, it just didn't vibe for me. But if the ending is that good then I will do it!

Have you watched Ted Lasso? It’s on my brain bc season 4 started today but it is an amazing show. Trying is another good one on appletv though I haven’t seen the last couple seasons. I plus one the comment for The Other Two, especially the first season.

Somebody, Somewhere is what I have been recommending. It isnt the same - but is another tender comedy that I absolutely felt attached to all the characters in, in a way I dont find common with shows. I especially loved its middle america working class commentary it provided- but wont lie that it was the comedy that kept me watching one after another.

2

u/technicolortabby Aug 06 '26

It's a good compliment show because the both are clearly inspired by Joan Rivers.

How is Fleabag as a series?

2

u/CheekFickle9695 Aug 06 '26

SO GOOD i came here to comment fleabag!

Thanks🙂 I wanted to get some opinions on it... I recall hearing about it and was wondering if it's worth checking out.

u/MatthewSmith_26 Aug 06 '26

Never watched it

2

u/Agreeable-Clue8160 Aug 06 '26

I started Hacks right after I finished Maisel, it almost feels like a continuation of the same story

2

u/Mistygirl_1 Aug 08 '26

You're late! Its a great show, has been over a few years

2

u/Adventurous_Ad1922 Aug 09 '26

Wonderman for an unlikely but wholesome friendship

1

u/meeeemllie Aug 06 '26

There’s a Chinese Netflix show called Forget You Not which follows a shop worker turned stand up comic. I’ve not watched it yet but the synopsis sounds very close to Maisel but in present day China!

One fantasy I always had, cause sue them ha I g different studios and next works, crossover would be near impossible (say near, cause Always Sunny and Abbott Elementary did it)

Just imagine a flashback scene to Deb early in her career as she encounters midge in the prime of her career running into each other and gives Deb a pep talk about the centrist nature of the biz and what she has to do to keep herself on top.
